So Nunes maybe off to Chelsea.what are we doing?!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2022 11:09:07
Apparently never wanted to join in the first place, forget him an move on, an quick!

06 Jul 2022 11:25:35
Its all about the money and Champion's League, players nowadays are not what they were, I think we need to be realistic in our signings

06 Jul 2022 11:48:42
@Golden Boy - we cannot compete with Chelsea, they can offer CL football and higher wages.

06 Jul 2022 12:05:06
Fair comment Debs but we’re not even competing with Fulham Forest and Leeds in this transfer window at this moment in time.

06 Jul 2022 12:05:17
Can't get a player to join if he doesn't want to join so let him rot on Chelseas bench might give him a kick up the backside.

Looks like Nunes hasn’t had to wait too long for a “bigger” luv than us to come along, if Sky is to be believed. Agree with others here that we will always struggle to compete with these clubs unless we can break into that elite group. Difficult to do, given that you can’t attract the top players in the first instance. Classic Catch 22!
However, if we really want Downes from Swansea you’d think we could see off a challenge from Palace. Players from abroad may be attracted by proximity to London but a homegrown player who understands our leagues, surely see Wolves as an attractive proposition.
Do believe we have some top players on our books at present, many of them who have a lot more to give. If we keep the key ones, Neves in particular, then I think Lage has a squad to work with. Benefit of new arrivals cannot be underestimated, as it freshens up things and gives everyone, fans included, a confidence boost.

Fans have to face reality, Wolves have no serious interest in buying. If a decent offer comes in for any member of the squad they will be gone. Fosun are in no position to invest any serious money in to the club. Just have to hope there is enough quality here to maintain Premier status. Would love the club to prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Ray389.Is there any reason someone at the club eg Jeff Shi Scott Sellers or Bruno can’t come out and say either we have transfer targets that we are working on or we won’t be spending big due to the economic climate.
To keep fans in the dark after taking season ticket and shirt money is fuelling discontentment.

Fulham, Forest and Leeds haven't exactly made earth shattering signings. If you look at ins and outs on Transfermrkt then only Man City and Spurs have really strengthened. Other clubs like Brighton and Everton have made a couple of decent additions between them but have lost important players.

How many players get signed isn't relevant. It's whether or not what comes in improves the squad and only time will tell on that. It's also a much smaller pool to fish in than the one Fulham, Forest, Bournemouth etc are fishing in. Except Paulinha, I very much doubt the players some other clubs have signed would have pulled up any trees at Wolves.

Fosun can't put any more money in without having a plan to get it back from the club in future revenues, so the budget is based on whatever is available and needs to allow for wages. This is exactly why they're putting focus into other revenue streams and growing the brand globally. You don't get to become an established top 6 clubs in the richest league in the world in 5 years, it takes time to build the foundation and that has to be done more naturally than it did 10-15 years ago, and it's a damned hard task. I'm confident there will be one or two additions before the window closes.

HI NEW POSTER: I don’t think it’s the squad we have, I’m sure we would survive in the prem.
What worries me is the depth of the squad with injuries etc.
I’m not giving up hope of a couple of signings, but think fans won’t be overwhelmed by who we do sign.

Great comment AlexWolf!

06 Jul 2022 15:18:03
That explains why they have increased the season ticket prices for over 65’s then Alex while giving decent deals on younger fans as no older fans will ever see us win anything.
Wish they had told us this when they bought the club instead of the Bull we were fed.

I'd be surprised if Nunes was ever an option frankly, far too much clickbait around him for Wolves.
I don't expect us to spend more than 20 million on any one player!
For me the lack of PR from the club treats us fans badly, but then again it's been like this for a couple of years now. It's very poor by the club and shows fans a total lack of respect in my opinion!

Difference is so many confuse aspirations with promises. Direct quote from Jeff Shi after the takeover in regards to being as big as Man City: 'In the future? Yes, why not? I do hope we can be the top club in the world. But it's not so useful to talk too much about that now. It's step by step. If you ask me the long-term goal, of course, we want to be as good as Man City, even better than them in future.'

Wants and hopes are aspirations. It promises nothing, but it dreams big.

I want my place of work to be the best in it's field in 10 years time, but it's different to promising my team it will happen even if we take the steps to get there.

Fosun situation isn’t anywhere as dire as people are fearing. Picture is complex but to date they have remained in favour of the powers that be in the Chinese National party. Admittedly they ideally would like us to be self sufficient but that is some way off and they know that. If they are wanting to float Wolves on stock exchange then they need them to be a top six side and understand that investment is required in order to achieve this.
I think we should all concentrate on the football and let those better placed than us, to worry about the finances of our owners.
It is possible but unlikely that there will be no major signings and let’s for this exercise work on the premise that there will be no major outgoings.where are we compared to where we were during that really poor run in T end of last season.
Sa is a class act and Sarkic is a good back up. Lost a few defenders with Saiss a big miss but Toti, Mosquera, Boly and Jonny all fit and likely to have a full pre-season. Only really used three midfielders last year. All three remain and are augmented by returning MGW and Jordan plus a year older Cundle. Key forward players are back for a full pre season - Jimenez, Neto and Podence. Add in a returning Traore and a pre season for Chiqinho and Hwang.
Admittedly this wouldn’t be the scenario anyone would choose but it does demonstrate that we are in a better place now than we were at the end of last season!

E from wombourne, there is no logical reason except to keep the fans on board, buying tickets and merchandise. Scott Sellers has a poor record when it comes to recruitment. They need a specialist to do this job, I'm sure he is a good fellow but perhaps out if his depth.

06 Jul 2022 18:05:38
Wolfthistle - Agree with your squad analysis - except statement that we are better than end of last year - unless you are referring to form and fitness, when of course you will be correct. In my view we are not as strong squad wise as Saiss - a key part of the defence has gone and Moutinho, Boly and Jimenez are one year older.
However that squad, with a fit/returning/motivated Neto, Traore and Podence markedly improving our offence, should be good enough for 13-16th. If Jimenez "recovers" (albeit unlikely!) we are good enough for Europa challenger - maybe 6th to 10th.
We really did put together a fantastic team that took us to "Seville" and still have some v v good players.
The squad is now v v thin and first 11 is ageing and stretched but this year we should be fine.
Obviously if we could manage a good signing or to that is all bunce!

06 Jul 2022 19:43:28
I don't trust Sellars tbh and a resignation letter is about the only thing he's capable of signing.

We do really seem to be in a position where the money's dried up and we have to sell to buy but are maybe pricing our players out of moves. Unless things change I'm seriously worried- wafer thin squad and players who haven't got great injury records, As with many others here I'd love to be proved wrong but I won't be holding my breath.

06 Jul 2022 21:10:59
Well said wolfthistle

With five subs next season, depth of squad is going to be more important. The top teams will be free to bring on strong replacements at the hour mark to stretch the game. This makes good recruitment by us all the more important.

On the subject of the good old E&S, they are not journalists, they are reporters who just regurgitate what the club tells them. The idea of investigation doesn’t come into it. Much easier to never rock the boat.
