Is Ait Nouri an upgrade to Vinagre? Seeing his loan cut short, and the tag of 20m plus for the young Nouri, would it be an addition or money we could look to spend elsewhere and bring Vinagre back.

Sydneywolf

1.) 04 Jan 2021 21:50:00
Obvious to anybody who has seen both play.

2.) 04 Jan 2021 22:02:23
Who do you think Jabba?

3.) 04 Jan 2021 22:05:32
Ait has potential and Vinagre flatters to deceive which is presumably why Olympiakos have cut short his loan.

4.) 05 Jan 2021 08:31:56
RAN is massively better than Vinagre - needs a bit of work on his defensive side, especially playing in a back four, but will be a hell of a player.

5.) 05 Jan 2021 09:28:06
Vinagre was always excellent going forward and stronger than RAN. Why bother buying a replacement with the same problems, always out of position when defending. Marcal is better than both and when Jonny is back will probably be an irrelevant discussion.

6.) 05 Jan 2021 10:00:34
Vinagre should play LW. Not unlike Bale in his early years. Rapid but a liability. Not saying he will become as good as Bale. I remember under Redknapp when Bale played at the back Spurs struggled. Pushed him forward and he exploded into life. Wish we could try Vinagre in a front three. Remember when he made Walker look a fool.

7.) 05 Jan 2021 14:09:37
I do find it bizarre how quickly peeps are writing off young talent! Ait Nouri came in with youth caps for France and half the big clubs watching him because he was highly rated! 8 apps later during our most challenging season, (especially defensively) and suddenly peeps want to chuck him on the scrap heap?! Honestly you look at some of the comments on here and you wonder what the actual problem, is it just the clubs approach or is it also fans that lack ANY patience for developing young talent?! As for Vingre well Nuno watched him for three seasons and decided he's not up to the job, incidentally so now have Olyimpiakos so I'm not convinced he's the answer if he's not even effective in the Greek league?! Patience people, the club have realised that we can't afford to buy stars so they are TRYING to make them! I grant you that can be a rough ride but let's not try to write peeps off before they've had much of a chance eh?! At the start of the season the pundits were saying Arsenal needed to get rid of Tierney, those same pundits are now singing his praises 🙄.

8.) 05 Jan 2021 18:22:12
Who is chucking him on the scrap heap? the question is merely asking is an upgrade on what we had already in Vinagre, which is a fair question.
You could say both have pros and cons, as Nuno says it's about find the solution in the squad, which Vinagre still is a Wolves player, and we are to pay another 20m for Ait Nouri and still have Vinagre on books.
Bringing back Curtrone also would not be that bad of an option if the rumours are true.
We don't really need to splash the cash if were smart enough, we have some good players coming back in from Injury, although if we lose one we may gain one in the transfer market maybe.

I'm. not questioning Nuno

In Nuno we trust.

9.) 05 Jan 2021 20:02:53
Fair enough Sydney but if we termenate his loan that's pretty final after just 8 apps, no? I'm not saying he is the answer, I was the first to call out his last performance but that was mostly cause I don't think he's suitable for a back four. The problem is though if the club cancel the contract, he goes else where and shines suddenly £20m looks like a steal and we've missed out, which peeps will also moan about. There's a reason we took a season long loan and there's no way the club will end it early unless there are problems. So is he any better than Vinagre, well let's wait and see. If not we have no obligation so it's win win really. I still think he can come good mind but I also think we need to stop with this back 4 nonsense cause for me it isn't working. Bizarrely (despite being bad at them) most of our goals right now are from set pieces so all a back four seems to do (for me) is result in cheap goals agaisnt us.
On a side note Sydney my comments are never aimed solely at you fella. The last time I wasn't necessarily saying you were scape goating (think that's the first time I'd seen yoh comment on Traore) . Like you said it's just my opinion, I'm the first to admit it might not be the right one. In Nuno we trust indeed 👍.

10.) 05 Jan 2021 20:45:25
Don't worry i'm very thick skinned and never take offence, sure that's what we come on here for, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I for one respect what you were saying, always good to have a debate.
I hear what you are saying regarding Nouri, he has shown glimpses of a very gifted footballer, and I do hope he turns out for the better for us of course.
Vinagre for me still has something to offer our club, as does Curtrone, he has that raw roughness about him which I think will be ideal right now, we need a scrapper.
Traore right now is so frustrating to watch, because he has the world at his feet if he wants, I feel he has gone backwards, maybe partly to a new system or maybe he misses Doc, they had a good understanding of each other, as did Jota and Raul, that takes time to get again.
I still think we will finish much stronger than the current run, I just want it to happen sooner rather than later, as do we all on here.

11.) 05 Jan 2021 23:10:34
Sadly the deal I thought was we sold Vinagre for slightly more than we were going to pay for RAN. If we can't sell Vinagre or at least for anything like the £20m we have to pay for RAN then not only would we have yet another left sided player with Vinagre's return, but we probably can't afford to pay the £20m. However as Bully says we have an option so let's see how he does over the next few months and then decide what to do. If we don't rate him send him back if we do adjust the squad - sell someone else, (note with Marcal as well and Otto returning we will have LWB's coming out of of our ears), or, although a bit cheeky, simply flip him and take the profit-this might be a bit optimistic!
ps Sydney v good last post.

Ed, can we have a poll on where we predict to finish in the PL this season, be a bit of fun to see where as a group we think and can have a bit of banter

PL finish poll

1.) 02 Sep 2025 12:56:31
23rd if we're lucky!

2.) 02 Sep 2025 12:48:48
Tks Ed
Just voted and despite def being one of the most negative posters on here - thought I'd say it before others did - I am the most optimistic of all respondents so far!

{Ed033's Note - ok thanks.

3.) 02 Sep 2025 14:03:40
You think you've got problems TFIOG I've just got us down to win the title. ??

4.) 02 Sep 2025 14:22:38
Well I am new to this site.
But I have to say
I would hate to be a wolves player
Reading all the negativity on this site.
Your supposed to be supporting this team.get behind them and give them
A chance

5.) 02 Sep 2025 14:26:50
Negative about the running of the club not the team

6.) 02 Sep 2025 14:35:05
Haha, welcome Moby! Firstly I think your being VERY optimistic if you think football players can read (sorry I couldn't resist)! ?
Secondly, it's a forum for a opinions if you don't like them that's fine but you don't get to decide what someone else's opinion is I'm afraid. Thirdly, it would seem that you are not the only one that would not want to be a wolves player, just ask out recruitment team (ba dum:) ??

7.) 02 Sep 2025 14:56:33
Moby - I think you are conflating two issues.
Supporting Wolves, (the club and the team), and approving of Jeff's, hopefully, deliberate destruction of the club are not the same thing at all.
Indeed I would argue that if you don't hate what Jeff has done to the club, 7th to 16th, profitable and solvent to the edge of bankruptcy you might not be such a big fan as you thought you were? .
Ps I say deliberate because god help Wolves and him if this performance is really the best he is capable of!

8.) 02 Sep 2025 15:37:33
I don’t like what Jeff has done and think we’re in a bad place, but it was Jeff that got us here in the first place. We were 15th in the championship when he came and we’re also all the way down in league one little over 10 years ago. So I would argue our current situation is a lot better than what it was, even if we’re on a downward spiral.

9.) 02 Sep 2025 16:47:34
Ilkley - that is an interesting view and one of course which I have some sympathy with particularly with respect to Fosun.
It is undeniable that when Fosun arrived Wolves were buried deep in the Championship.
However was it Jeff or Nuno, Dalrymple and Thelwell, albeit backed by Fosun and a certain, (far from huge though), amount of cash, that got Wolves to Seville?
What is also undeniable though is that it is Jeff that has overseen the clubs fall into a downward spiral as all 3 of the successful management team left when he flexed his muscles.
Your last point though may not be true - see my post below re the finances. If Wolves go down - hardly a massive punt- the financial position is very serious and far far worse than it would have been when they were in the Championship before Fosun arrived.

10.) 02 Sep 2025 17:22:54
Moby, welcome, can I just say regardless of any opinion, regardless of owners, regardless of players good or bad, regardless of the division and regardless of the opposition I Support Wolverhampton wanderers, and that is what really matters.

11.) 02 Sep 2025 21:07:31
Great shout on the poll Sydney ?
Interesting results so far, we spent most of the summer with a decent half (or more) of the posters on here saying we would be 12th and upwards and could everyone stop being negative. Yet here we are on today's poll and we have 86% saying 14th and below. Not sure what's changed for a decent chunk of those fans (I suppose losing those first three games)? ?

12.) 02 Sep 2025 21:47:42
BullysBoy II and the other half have been practically guaranteeing relegation and yet 58% have voted for Premier survival.

All this proves is that anyone with an agenda can spin anything!

13.) 02 Sep 2025 22:44:56
Who's agenda Mol? Because currently 15% of posters are saying top ten, are you honestly saying that having read these pages over the last two months only 15% were saying top 10?! Cause if that's the case then I must have been reading a different forum all summer! ?
What it actually proves is that it's easy to say we'll finish in the top ten before a balls been kicked, clearly it's a LOT harder to maintain optimism when the table doesn't lie!

14.) 02 Sep 2025 22:57:08
Sometimes I feel like I must be missing most of the posts on this page. I don’t think there’s ever been half or over half positive posts on here in the whole time I’ve been reading and that includes the Nuno days. Seems like a heavy exaggeration considering most on here were worried about selling Cunha and Ran and Semedo not signing another contract during the summer. I’d say maybe 3 or 4 posts saying top half during the summer and I think I was one of them. Admittedly I’m now saying just off top half but come on, imo most were saying fosun wouldn’t sign anyone in the summer and we were def going down due to selling our best players again.

15.) 02 Sep 2025 23:14:46
I think that proves we're reading the same forum and for that matter the same survey and making very different opinions.

My feeling from reading the forums recently there is a general majority that are concerned but have faith, a group that believe we are doomed to relegation and worse, and possibly a smaller minority that feel we're a force to be reckoned with!

Just to prove how things can be spun, you state 'currently 15% of posters are saying top ten'. This is false as there is no option to vote for TOP 10!

In actual fact the survey is broken as there are no options to vote between 4th and 11th, it's what's called a 'SURVEY WITH SELECTION BIAS'

16.) 03 Sep 2025 00:11:12
Quite right Mol, but all you seem to have proven is that those saying top ten would be even LOWER than the generous 15% I quoted. And you want to talk to me about spin, OK then buddy ?
Goats not sure I can be bothered to scour through posts (maybe I will when I have more time/get bored:).
I suppose my point is (which seems to be being missed) is that I (like MANY others) have got somewhat bored of being blamed all summer for 'being negative', 'just back the team', 'maybe Fosun know what they are doing' etc! When all it has taken is a mere three games for a decent majority of those very same posters to now see precisely what some have been saying all along. I've had posters (confidently) telling me 'the team is/will be better than last season', when I simply asked by what actual metric they'd never come back with anything of substance (or even a usable metric). Just a simple 'I just feel it in me bones, so stop being negative' (in fact even today we've had pretty much that very post)! Not that I mind of course this forums all about opinions. It does however become a little tedious that airing what (just three games in) has already been proven to be VERY genuine concerns somehow gets you branded less of a fan?! Like you say spin is easy so could it not be equally argued that blindly supporting a lame duck of an ownership team is/has been detrimental to the club and therefore the fans?! Don't believe me then go to the games and have a listen. Cause most fans that are regularly spending a small fortune supporting this club have been making their feelings clear regarding Jeff/Fosun since about Jan last year! COYW ?

Well now Mr Shi has addressed the Elephant in the room, has it eased some of the fear and unknown?
I reckon his letter was very balanced and basically told us that they are trying to stay one step ahead instead of going for broke, which I think is smart.
We have a decent squad and Saturdays game will be a good indication of where we are at.
I still think we will see one or 2 additions before season starts.

Sydneywolf

1.) 03 Aug 2023 21:27:28
I agree Sydney. No beating around the bush from Jef. Telling how it is. It's nice to have it from the " horses mouth, ". It saves idle tongues speculating. Greetings from Somerset

2.) 03 Aug 2023 21:40:22
Saturday will be a good indicator Sydney . Rennes thrashed forest 5-0 on Tuesday so it will be interesting how we play . I thought last night's game was pretty good . We played some nice stuff but, as per last season, we didn't hit the back of the net . Having said that, we missed 3 sitters (sasa, hwang and sarabia) and worked the goalie several times too . I always look forward with optimism and this year is no different . It was great to be back at the mol last night and I can't wait for the season to start and, hopefully, we can be this year's surprise package .

3.) 04 Aug 2023 06:37:57
They also beat West ham 3-1 before that spiderwolf, I don't know what players were put out but it should be a good test for us. I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow.

4.) 04 Aug 2023 09:55:51
They got Mbappe on loan!

5.) 04 Aug 2023 12:52:49
Yes champions league qualifiers so let's see how we fare before getting to panic stricken.

27 Oct 2022 16:22:48
I think the current situation is a bad one, reading all the negativity is hard as a fellow Wolves fan, I for one have lost my positive outlook recently as so many of us have, we have got used to having a fairly decent time as fans over the last few season, which now seems to be coming to the end with all the uncertainty at this moment in time.
I will be flying over for the game this weekend, I will be in full voice for my love of Wolves.
Yes its easy for us all to give u and feel down right now, but let's drop all the negative posts and try and see how we can get out of this mess.
We as fans feel bad, I hope this is the bottom and we can try and move forward.
The news and rumours around our players will be in overdrive coming up to the transfer window as the sharks circle, but let's not panic I feel like the tides are just about to change once more.

Sydneywolf

1.) 27 Oct 2022 16:56:38
Well said sydneywolf, let's play our part and get behind the team. I am certainly looking for a reaction, and a positive one, 3 points and we'll all be feeling better.

2.) 27 Oct 2022 17:11:41
Is I feel like being positive or negative Sydneywolf? What makes you think that things are about to change? because being negative I can't see it happening as Wolves confidence is rock bottom and they just can't score! I hope your trip will be worthwhile but I feel like it just won't happen.

3.) 27 Oct 2022 19:16:33
Sydneywolf - I have my ticket for the game and whilst there will be fully supportive of anyone and everyone associated with the club. I don't see any upside from bringing down what must already be a pretty low level of morale in the team.
ps
Surely you aren't coming form Sydney?
pps If we match their energy and aggression we should be comfortable as we have far better players but that "if" sadly is a big one as we simply don't have the athletes or particularly the warriors required to do so.

4.) 27 Oct 2022 20:00:39
No Future, the days of travelling from Sydney are over, I'm living in Ireland now.
Melo positive is the only way, I understand all the negative about the place, but what's the point, it won't help us one bit, at Chelsea the otherweek, at the end when.a few of the players came over to applaud, a young lady behind me started shouting abuse, telling players to F@#k off, this is the kind of support we don't need at any games.
It's times for us the get in the trenches and get behind the team, qe need them to perform, shouting and abusing won't help that one bit

01 Sep 2022 08:53:35
I'm usually very positive, but that performance against a very poor team is the final straw for me.
Our form is getting worse.
I'm losing faith in Bruno and his ability to actually get the players to play.
I think not having a natural leader on pitch is hurting us,Neves is not captain material for the Premier league, he not tough enough.

Sydneywolf

1.) 01 Sep 2022 10:15:54
The fans need to give Bruno until the world cup, with the players we have only just signed and get behind all the players and stop moaning. I hope we can sign an attacking midfielder I believe that will solve a lot of our issues, just my opinion.

2.) 01 Sep 2022 10:41:10
Agree Sydneywolf no natural leader at the club. Cries out for Conor Coady. Notice Everton play back 4 with him. Seems to me they left it so late signing anyone that the last couple of weeks it has been panic buying with not enough thought about what's needed or the quality of signings.

3.) 01 Sep 2022 10:59:44
How long you want to give him? Either on behalf of or with the help of,the Chairman and the Board he / they have systematically destroyed everything that Nuno and his Backroom Staff worked so hard to build, are we any better, are we going to be anywhere near the top six, are we going to Wembley with a decent run in one of the Cup competitions, three No’s from me, are we ever going to win another game, Yes of course, will Bruno Lage be here when it happens, debatable.

Future I agree, what is the reason that players don't come? but I would say the ones that did are here, the rest of the nearly
group obviously either wanted more money or Wolves didn't think their price represented a good deal, that would be my thoughts on it.
Bully I think he was backed, yes may letting a couple of midfielders go was not the right move until they had cover, I think Lopez, Cruij are possibly back up to the midfield, is it good enough only time will tell, VP has been backed in my opinion, we just never got one or 2 players over the line, for a multitude of different reasons.
The angst and doom by the fans needs to be put to bed, and fans need to get behind the team an move forward. Its easy to point fingers, but unless we sit at the top table we will never know why or who we actually wanted, we just see and hear the gossip to rise the fear amongst the fans. Lat year we were all but gone come December, look how our season turned around, and the purple patch we had no Cuhna, one or 2 results will breath some confidence into the team, and we will make some headway, the new player bought in will settle and show their worth, we have bought in many players that nobody knew or had the experience everyone seems to bang on about, but they did just fine

Can someone answer me this, for all the players mentioned on who we have missed out on, how many of them would have come to Wolves?
Did Wolves look at them? VP stressed he only want players who want to come! so isn't it fair to say that we agreed condition with one or 2, only for them to go elsewhere, so do they sound like players that wanted to come? the answer is no, they went to the highest bidder . watch the new lads video, he wanted to be here as soon as heard we were interested, and low and behold the transfer happened fairly quickly. obviously lots of stuff goes on behind the scenes, but there is no point panic buying like we have done in the past, as history has proved majority of our panic buys either didn't want to come or failed, which wasted lots of money, Fabio being the biggest one

What's with all the VP will walk rubbish, he signed 5 players over the window, he moved on a few that he clearly didn't want, he may have wanted to move 1 or 2 more on, but unfortunately nobody came in for them, If Fosun had shafted him Larsen would now be playing elsewhere.
I can understand a little bit of the frustration, but some of the stuff posted online is unreal because we didn't sign more players, we have a decent squad to compete as a mid table team, and that will come, time for patience, why all of a sudden have we become a club who want instant gratification with new players all the time.
VP has picked up 8 payers since the January window, all costing a few million, he has been backed fair bit, so to say he hasn't is pure tripe, time for VP to earn his money, first by dropping one or 2 of his favourites who clearly have offered nothing yet this season. If he does walk he is clearly just as pathetic as Lop was.
For me its time to let things settled own and the new players find their feet, and let VP get on with being a manager

How many homegrown players do we need to have in squad? this is where KWP is a bonus, as for goals v games, DOC would have struggled in the Southampton team of last season, their roles on the pitch were different also, so not sure its a fair comparison.

I'm with you on a lot of what you say Madman, but with the recent games, we have seen a very negative trend in our play, players who have not been performing have still been picked consistently, this adds fuel to the fire for fans to be aggrieved, it always feel much worse when your staring up the league from the bottom, the 2 draws against Spurs and Brighton compounded the frustration and ramped up the anger, as these were 2 games we had control of and threw the wins away with bad game management, that is solely down to The management team, I like VP and I hope he turns things around, he's a gent that deserves time to get this right, we can relieve him of his duties and get someone else in, but that does not mean we automatically survive, its could give us more problems.
I remember when Ariola first went to Bournemouth, he had his ups and downs and the fans wanted him gone, he was backed by club, he lost a few players but he finally stamped his own mark on the team over time.
I do see both sides of coin in all of this and yes, results have been poor, in many other clubs, VP would have been sacked, but I do think we owe him some fat, he came to us when no other coach would, and kept us up by a good margin, I'm hoping that the tide will turn, Defensively we have improved a lot from the start of season, now we need to look to change our forward and attacking areas to improve our goal scoring margins.
We have the players to compete, we just need that bit of desire to get on front foot more, release the shackles, as I think we are being over cautious.
I will be over in UK for the Burnley and Chelsea cup game, hoping we get some results and we can get some point on table.
I still have some hope the season will turn, said it before and Il take a punt again that we do, but we have a big job ahead, 3 points Sunday would be a good start.
