I’m hearing mixed rumours on whether or not Mario Vuskovic, the young Croatian defender, is about to arrive from Hamburg for a medical. No confirmation from reputable sources yet and apparently he played for his club yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

NES, Transfer market rumours are rating this one as an 83 percent probability, so the rumour may have some credibility.
As for timescales, no idea.

The really sad thing is the Recruitment team under Shi and Sellars have had months to create a "hit list" of players preferred.
In the last 4 weeks you sense no rumours have had any substance.
If they are still scratching around, desperately trying to sell players no one wants, or sign players requested by Lage, we are in serious trouble.
The Club needs change at the top. Fosun, do realise what is happening to this part of your empire?!

Rugeley, as much as I doubt our transfer team I think they based their planning around selling Neves for £60M, thus generating funds.
The fact that he looks like he is likely to stay (so far) has blown plan A. That means we are probably reduced to hunting around for sub £10M players which will mean more younger ones imo

We are where we are, think deep down we all knew we had to sell to buy in this window.
Last season was a season off two halves, first half good second half poor.
Ok we have lost half a dozen or more squad players Saiss the only regular starter.
Currently and I pray it stays that way we currently still have the jewel in the crown
MGW must be retained Traore must be refocused and give us another season.
A filly Fit Neto and Mosquera and suddenly the squad is arguably a little stronger than the one that started the last campaign, add to that the emergence of the likes off Toti,Cundle,Bueno,Campbell, etc we may be not to far away from a decent campaign, add a couple of loans and you know what things could be a whole lot brighter.
For me the key is keeping Neves,MGW and Traore
Off to take another happy pill, they seem to be working ?

@The Realist ????

10 Jul 2022 09:39:33
Totally agree with that Realist and of course we need to avoid injuries that might really stretch a tight squad.

Realist and NES - As I have written several times over the past week or so we will have the opportunity to benefit from a fit/motivated/returning Neto/Podence/Traore for the full year. Note last year between them they played less than 3,000 minutes {90* 38=3420}.
Whilst many of you don't rate Traore as I do surely we all agree that having all 3 back available is a massive uplift over last year's v disappointing options and thus despite all the gloom and doom re new signings and the realisation ( surely again we all agree) that we won't be as tight defensively given the changes that have occured we are not in as bad as shape as perhaps some believe.
Whilst I doubt we can hang on to 10th I would hope that we would still be well clear of the relegation battle in perhaps 13th?
Given no investment for 3 years that is a very positive situation and a tremendous tribute to where we were and the direction we were going before Seville.

TFIOG it's not about if we rate Adama or not it's the fact that he really doesn't want to be here. In that situation it does more harm than good keeping an unhappy player who won't put the effort in. I for one hope he realises that to get a move he needs to show why he deserves one and puts himself in the shop window but that's upto him

To retain your status in the Premier league it's about, among other things, progression, not standing still and having a credible plan on the pitch, and a squad capable of competing at the high level. At the moment we seem to be sleep walking into big issues that we not not be able to recover from. Lack of investment in the team is the most important of all, and we are doing such a poor job of recruiting and selling, a few posts have listed the players we have, but as the latest news shows not a single squad in the league goes through without sustaining injuries,if we are not prepared for that then we may be in trouble. I see the words 'hope' in sentences, do we really want to go into the season hoping we are not involved in a relegation battle? that is not how we should be looking ahead, we should be hoping we get into the top six! Did I not read after the january transfer window that Shi said the money was there but we just couldn't complete the deals? so given our additional funds from the season end where is it? sorry to be doom and gloom but just being realistic and as others have said it would be nice for the club the engage with the supporters with some honesty.

10 Jul 2022 13:23:54
Exactly the point I made a week ago STH.
Where has the money gone?
It seems Jeff and Co are taking the whatsit!

{Ed002's Note - What money?

Is MGW really a jewel in the crown?
By all accounts he wants out and half a decent season in the championship ain't saying he's going to cut it in the premier league, I say get rid and reinvest, same goes for traore aswell, he wants out then get him sold.

10 Jul 2022 13:54:35
As often the case I agree with you TFIOG.
I think our forward line could be strong without too many changes (there has been rumours about a young Chilean wing arrival (Dario Osorio?) which could come to fruition with the Chiquinho injury).
My attitude is that I would retain Neves, MGW and Adama for another year and accept any diminution in sales value (full diminution in the case of Adama likely to be £10m - £15m). If MGW has a good season I don’t see why he wouldn’t still be worth £20m in 12 months’ time and my guess is that Barcelona will look to rip us off with Neves whether it’s now or next year.
Therefore let’s build on what we have and certainly the strategy of keeping the payroll in check is apparent.
I can’t see a massive amount being spent under my assumptions.

NES - hardly surprising to say I agree.
If we sell Neves, Traore and to a lesser extent MGW and don't trade well the diminution in value of the players will be nothing compared to the diminution of revenues earnt by the club as we drop down the league.
Keeping them potentially buys us another 12 months to sort out our problems!
With a fair wind we could remain in lower mid table this season but - as we saw for most of the 2nd half of the last season - we are not that far away from more serious issues.
South Banker you are obviously correct about dressing room unity - a real strength of the club over past few seasons and we saw the problems a lack of it caused in the 2nd half of last season when there apparently was discontent in the dressing room -was the discontent because of the defeats or defeats because of the discontent?
However whilst it is clear Traore doesn't want to be here no one in the squad or the management have ever intimated he is anything other than a consumate pro who will always give his best - people forget or conveniently ignore the fact that for a period in the 2nd half of 20-21 he put the club on his shoulders and almost single handedly kept us up!
Plus he will as you say need to play well to get the new club/contract he wants.
Of course if we were being inquisitive we could ask why doesn't he want to be here - it clearly isn't money he is being offered a kings ransom so what is it?
I obviously have no contact with him or his agent and therefore can only postulate. However it seems to me that perhaps like many on here and virtually everyone on the "forum" he has been unhappy with the direction the club has been moving post Seville.
My views on this are well known and STH please don't read my "hope" as complacency but just realism.
We do still have some strong premier league quality players and I "hope" that they will keep us safe in lower mid table this year. However I cannot deny that as you identify there are major issues that have been obvious to those willing and able to see since Seville that not only have not been addressed but are now escalating and will reach critical levels in the not too distant future - hence my comments of safety are limited to this season!

Good thread guys, pretty much agree with all of it tbh. I would totally understand all who say sell Traore but but what I do know is that while he's at the club he never does anything but his best! You could see by the reaction of the players in the last game he played when they thought he'd scored. They don't do that for a player who's not trying or unpopular. If you want him gone that's fine but respect those who don't!
