Wolves have contacted Benfica to enquire about centre back Francisco Reis Ferreira (aka Ferro) .

We had an experienced and capable centre back who never let us down’ went on loan to Leicester with an option to buy for £5 Million, don’t see how we can discard Ryan Bennett, seems if you fall out of favour with Nuno there’s no way back, whatever the cost.

29 Sep 2020 12:09:49
Must go in for James Tarkowski. Solid, strong, good in air and on the ground and knows this League.

29 Sep 2020 12:46:23
Ecosse - would be a great choice but having spent over £50 on the two Portuguese kids not certain we have the fire power left?
Def think we need at least two more Prem League hardened players but good ones aren't normally available.
Having missed out on AMN what about Saka - or if he was ever fit Loftus Cheek?
Neither would be as pricey as Tarkowski - and possibly a loan of Loftus Cheek might suit all parties - allowing the Portuguese kids to bed in without too much responsibility and LC to see if he wants to come to Wolves?

29 Sep 2020 13:08:51
Loftus cheek is a very good shout. Power to ensure we don't get bullied in the middle against certain teams.

29 Sep 2020 13:35:35
Oxlade-Chamberlain he's not going to get much game time at Liverpool. Worth asking I know they don't want to sell him. But a loan? Boly has got to go back on the left!

29 Sep 2020 14:33:12
Tom - seems like he going to be loaned out to Villa. Maybe we need to get involved as we have been badly bullied in both the last two games yet despite as you say being powerful he is also comfortable on the ball.
Fitness and salary both likely to be issues though?

29 Sep 2020 14:34:46
Ken - isn't the Ox long term injured?

29 Sep 2020 16:23:26
Thefutureisoldgold. Sorry I've no idea! Wishful thinking then on my part. I was just thinking about solutions without checking. With the players we have I'd play Donk at centre back and midfield! Can't make my mind up tbh. Though with the buys we've made, losing two starters to replace with players for the future makes you wonder! Nuno knows better than me, I hope!

Just heard an interesting story on the radio. Dele Alli is not part of Mourinhos plans at Spurs but the club will not sell him to a rival in the PL. There is little interest from abroad and he wouldn't get into the Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City team anyway. Arsenal is out for obvious reasons. He is too good for the likes of Villa, Burnley etc (their words, not mine) so this leaves 3 viable options: Us, Newcastle and Everton on loan with Spurs paying 50% of his wages. They added that Alli is desperate to play regular football as he wants to regain his England place in time for the Euros next year. I personally would take him for the season.

29 Sep 2020 17:49:12
I agree Jas. assuming he would like to join us.

29 Sep 2020 19:04:29
Not a chance, hasn't got the work ethic to be in a Nuno team.

Watch 5 mins of that spurs doc. Blatantly called out for being lazy.

I don't doubt the talent, just about everything else.

Missing out carrying on, Maitland-Niles reportedly close to signing for Man United for 22m.

30 Sep 2020 14:12:16
Missing out on AMN if true would be sad, clearly an opportunity missed. I hope what appears to be scattergun recruitment on our part works out. Clearly we need a couple of players for now not in 1 or two years. Hopefully they have something happening in the recruitment department. We can but hope!

30 Sep 2020 20:53:33
Villa have taken Barkley so LC still available as might Saka of Arsenal ( v versatile down left hand side)
Also at Chelsea what about Rudiger - plays RCB?

30 Sep 2020 21:43:22
Rudiger is a good shout. Man City want rid of Zinchenko and Mitrovic must want out of Fulham. Get those 3,go 3 5 2 with podence as the number 10, top 4 in the bag. Easy baby!

01 Oct 2020 09:48:38
Matt - Mitrovic certainly won't be bullied! Scared to see how he does this weekend against our currently nervous and passive back 3.
Playing two up front with Podence in the 10 role and no wide men might well work - particularly from a defensive point of view where Podence could help fill in the acres of space currently available in our central mid.
However for this to work well I think this would require us to have 2 strong WBs but at the moment the left is either solely defensive - Marcal or weak - Vinagre and down the right we have a new guy who surely will need time to bed in?
But Rudiger and Boly should give us some solidity/ muscle at the back.
Still think we need to add muscle and pace in midfield - but without losing quality on the ball. I know from our squad Dendonker is the obvious choice but much as I accept he is fit and hard working, (A good man marker who still finds the energy to get up and support the front line) he is limited both in pace and quality on the ball.
He is at best a support player in a midfield 3 or a squad player covering both CB and Midfield. If we want to compete at the top end surely he can't be a first choice?
Trying not to be too negative but the last couple of games have been v bad and a performance is required as well as a result this week.
To date Nuno has met all challenges but I'm worried that our desire to build for the future - something lots on here were asking for and applauding loudly only a few weeks ago) has hurt our present ( Guess that is an old man thing! ) .
Fingers crossed!

Future - I certainly wouldn't disagree with what you're saying but from my point of view we need cb, lwb, st/ cf and box to box midfielder. Realistically that's not going to happen certainly not at any quality. I think you put a plaster on the midfield issue by playing 3 of which we have lots of options, with one of them behind 2 strikers. Neto and Traore to come on and dessimate tired defences. Where I disagree is I have a huge soft spot for dendonker and he would be in my team week in week out I think he's our best cb and the work he does in midfield is unparalleled. Marcal I see as a cb, too defensive for me so maybe try Hoever there? Although I'd love a left sided player there. So for me we need a match ready lwb and cf as priority. Or a cb if Nuno won't play Marcal or dendonker there regularly. What I have seen of Kilman I like, I wonder if he'll get a chance. Our net spend so far is minimal compared to others so hopefully there's a few pennies behind the sofa we can dig out for a couple more. Minimum 2 players needed for me and Not a winger. Or else what was the point of selling Jota?!

01 Oct 2020 14:07:05
Thefutureisoldgold and MattWolf. I read that money is available if the right opportunities present themselves. Well there sure are plenty of them available. I agree we have plenty of future players on the books though they don't appear ready yet from what we've seen. Let's hope we get someone for midfield which we appear desperate for. Donk can do a job at centre back we know that. Loftus-Cheek fit would suit us imo. Wish I knew what I was talking about! COYW.

{Ed002's Note - Wolves cannot lose sight of their FFP problems.}

01 Oct 2020 14:18:15
Matt - Dendonker is more than capable of being your box to box - but I'm cautious in that he is not not pacey or that good (Moutinho good! ) on the ball - but obviously I am being v picky here!
I don't mind him at RCB and certainly at the moment he might be the best option as the encumbent looks shaky
LWB - Telles - available for £18m - perhaps send Vinagre as part exchange?
CB - we agree Rudiger might be an idea
Agree re Marcal - looked good in the handful of minutes we saw v SU (defensively! )
Hoover from 20 mins at WH and a game for Liverpool against Wolves I saw looks promising - RCB or RWB (Semedo? )
I would like another goalscorer ( wouldn't every club! )! Josh King was mentioned?
Why didn't we go for Callum Wilson?
But CM is the key issue for me and with all respect I don't see Dendonker as the long term answer ( he prob plays as part of the 3 at the moment though! )
Like Podence at 10 behind Jimenzez
play 3 5 1 1
But require the WBs in the 5 to get up and down to provide width
looks v defensive but at moment we are shipping goals and chances ( thank heavens Patricio has had 2 good games) at a scary rate
need to rebuild some base to work from
Patricio
Semedo
Hoover
Coady
Boly
Marcal
Dendonker
Moutinho
Neves
Podence
Jimenez

Worried Right side fo Def v inexperienced. Perhaps move Semedo to left, Hoover to RWB and shift Boly back to Right (or play Dendonker there could Saiss play in mid? - confused or what? )

I really like Traore but at moment the team can't afford him - he is a luxury player - the sort that wins games but doesn't stop you losing them!
He also needs the team to be on the same wave length and since we gave Doc away we don't have anyone linking with him so he is too static
Offensively we are awful but at the moment but it is defensive that has to be sorted out first

oh dear- sorry a v negative rant.

01 Oct 2020 14:26:36
Not about knowing what you're talking about Ken we're all entitled to our opinions. What gives me hope is that for the most part we all agree on the areas that need strengthening so Nuno and team must be aware of that too. For the most part I'm thrilled with the additions, our squad (in my opinion) is far stronger than last season, but the 1st 11 is weaker. Couple more oven ready signings (preferably with Premier league experience) and I'll be a happy boy!

01 Oct 2020 14:44:41
When you think about it a week on the training ground with hopefully all fit now with Nuno. Common sense says things will improve. It's been a while since he's had a full week with them without a game. Fulham will give us some idea of his thinking and direction. Then of course they go on holiday 5 go to Portugal. ( Idea for a kids book ) .

01 Oct 2020 15:12:41
I think that is a it negative future (line up wise)
I'd like to see
Rui
Donk Coady Boly
Semedo neves vatinha hoever
Podence
Silva jiminez

Happy to swap semedo and hoever. I think that balances both defence and attack. A number 10 for me is key, ability to unlock defences gives us a new dimension.

01 Oct 2020 20:34:02
Just read that Alonso is seemingly available for just over £10m
Wages might be a problem and he certainly hasn't looked his usual self the last few ties I have seen him play - but as a LWB he was v v impressive for Chelsea previously?

01 Oct 2020 20:59:09
I'd personally rather Zinchenko or Telles, anyone but Vinagre basically!
