Welcome quarry, haven't seen it but if it was headed it must be a collectors item. Its good he's getting some goals in, good development move but we need someone proven desperately.

Prepared for verbal onslaught that will follow but opinions and different views are the essence of a good fans forum.
First goal Villa scored yesterday showed why we made the personnel and system change we have this season. It was a goal that we have conceded regularly over past few years. Ball is played behind the RB to villa’s front man, Watkins. The left sided CB goes out to face up. Coady back tracking towards his own goal looks over his shoulder and sees zings moving into an attacking position. However he doesn’t move to close down his space but continues deep into his own box. When Ings receives a simple pull back from Watkins, Coady is a good eight to ten yards from him. He does then move to try to block the effort on goal but it is too little too late, with familiar half turned back attempt to stop the shot.
Central CB of three can play different ways. Problem we had was that our system had that player marking space from a deep position but without the pace to get out quickly enough,to successfully charge down such attempts. We have conceded far too many goals that were variations on this one by Ings.

Wolf- I get your point but that's not a formation issue that's a organisation issue! Chelsea won a league and a Champs League playing five at the back and I can tell you now they never let in sloppy goals! Lampards never been able to organise a defence, it cost him promotion with Derby and his job at Chelsea but he still hasn't learnt from it! It's fine to prefer 4-4-2, like you say it's all about opinions. For me though it not really about what the formation is it's more about a teams ability to play effectively in said formation. Not saying we won't get there but there's a reason we went back to 5 at the back last season and it's cause we didn't have the personnel for 4. We are definitely closer now but it does rely on our WB converting to FB (and quicker than they currently are) cause at the moment almost every chance/goal is coming from their inability to do that! COYW ?

Wolf it was the right time for Coady to go. He is a great leader but he is now sadly lacking half a yard of pace. Wolves showed great gratitude to Coady letting him go as they did. They didn't do it for any other reason except for his benefit

Wolfthistle - v good analysis and I tend to agree with you that in this case Coady should have stepped forward and snuffed out the danger.
Obviously he was scared that if he stepped forward with his lack of pace Ings would spin by him and be in on goal so he stayed safe - but at a cost obviously.
What the M of D analayst - apologise can't recall who it was - said was that the space on the edge of the box - between Watkin and Ings should have been occupied by one of the 2 deep mids - in our case that would have been Neves or Moutinho- and thus Ings would have been taken out of the game regardless of Coady's position.
So as BB once again correctly points out it was about organisation not formation and although you say we conceeded lots because of our inability to play it correctly I'm not sure the stats back that up - we were normally a v strong defensive side. Certainly Coady's reputation - Merson thinks he could rescue Man U and he is picked for England - would indicate that we/he must have played the system ok some of the time as well.
PS BB made same point re WBs earlier on. Also not sure Moutinho or Neves have the legs to provide the cover that the sweeper negates the need for. For me we will concede more with little evidence to say that we will score any more but time will tell.
