Can someone let Jeff know.

I am just picking up on E's comment - who is the current pantomime villain? it used to be JezMoxey or "Jez Moxley" as he was oddly referred to.

July 5th. Virtually one month to the start of the season and not a single player bought. Pathetic an absolute disgrace. Still as Wolves fans we are only supposed to remember where we were x amount of years ago and be grateful for that, while everyone else strengthens and plots for trophies.

In order to achieve higher possession rate in. Opposition half, I believe we will have to change to a back four and plat either 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. We have some really good forwards and midfielders. However over the last couple of seasons we have been unable to get more than one player in opposition box when we attack. We very rarely break forward in numbers and invariably stop in our tracks and recycle the ball back to Coady or a deep sitting Neves.
In order to press we need a back line that plays at least another 15/20 yards up the pitch. We have routinely been the deepest sitting team in the league over past two years. This was in order to deploy 3 centre backs all lacking a bit of pace.
Coady is our talisman and is everything you would want in a captain and more. However if he plays that central of three CBs, we will be unable to push further up the pitch and I don’t see him operating as one of two CBs. Can he play as a sitting central midfielder and if so is he going to be better than those we already have in that role or plan to have?
I think this is the biggest dilemma facing Lage. He understands the role Coady plays for the team both on and off the pitch but can he find a way of getting that to work in a more attack-minded system!

I absolutely agree wolfthistle. Coady is the key here, he means so much as you say both on and off the pitch that you feel we can't sacrifice him for a new style, but if needs must the club in performance and results must come first. It'll be a brave man who loses him from the team. Transfer activity might eventually reflect or dictate our season in that respect. Nuno was an emotional departure, felt like the father had gone, were coady to be sold it feel like the heart and soul departing. But, can coady return to his midfield successfully? If yes then hunky dory days.

Your right SQ, we’re running out of time. There’s only 58 days and 3 hours left of the transfer window!

So traore, back with us for now, wondered what your thoughts are,my opinion is,thank goodness,I know he can be hit or miss, but miss him we did,the last 18 games, especially,as we lost 12,if I'm correct,he can give us that momentum, that gets us out of our seat, when he's in full flow,
Only my opinion,
Coyw

Cracking post Wolfwhistle ?
Nice to see a post actually on our team.
I would like obviously new signings but we have enough quality at present to not be in relegation trouble as is mentioned a lot on here.
Other teams making signings has happened the last 2 seasons and if not for our bad luck in injuries and our bad luck in front of goal we would of finished higher in the league.
Throwing the towel in before the season starts is not in mu vocabulary.
Looking forward to the new season with a lot of hope but with nerves as always.
It is how it is so I either get behind the wolves or not.
I have to get behind them there can be never any other way.
Will ve interesting how Lage sets up.
We gave a lot to lose but everything to gain.
COYW

Ps if others think different then so be it.
I have no problems with that and would like to think no one has a problem with how I think.
Cheers and up the wolves.

06 Jul 2022 06:56:51
We can use Traore and get the most out of him mainly as impact sub I think he will be of mist use to us.

06 Jul 2022 10:05:04
Good news, at last, a new signing! Just signed at the door for a new pair of boots, with us releasing players, not signing anyone and letting our younger talented players go out on loan before we have sufficient cover, I've decided to offer my playing services to the first team, I should be able to bring our first team up to 11 fit players before the season starts. At 58 I reckon I must be worth about £35 million in todays prices! LOL

Great post Wolfthistle. Coady is definitely a conundrum as he needs to be part of the squad, but I think we also need to move to a proper 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. Using him as a hold midfielder rather than a sweeping centre back could be an option.

Signings will depend on what system Bruno wants to play. If you play 3 centre backs and not 2 then logically you need more players there and less in the midfield to forward positions. Personally I'd like to bring in 2 senior players and keep what we have, but maybe cash in on Traore purely because he doesn't want to be here and will leave for nothing next summer anyway. If he wants to stay then great.

I'd like to see us bring in a ball carrying midfielder who like to get forward. MGW and Cundle can possibly provide options there but MGW may be sold and hasn't had the chance to prove himself in that role in the Premier League. I'd also like to see a forward coming in purely because the numbers from the current options weren't high enough last season. A change in shape, improvement of Hwang and Fabio may help there as well as a return to fitness for Neto and Jiminez getting a good pre season, but it would be nice to have another option.

Defensively I think there is enough there and we should balance additions without blocking the path to the first team for some of the developing players. It's a tricky balance but hopefully with just a couple of smart signings it's achievable.

06 Jul 2022 10:55:22
Sad thing is phil, and I know some will disagree with me, is that the player we may bring in will not be up to the player we lose in MGW. He looked the biz with Sheffield, even prompting the crisp man to recognise his talent. Now he's wanted by all and sundry around us and likely to go. He's one of our own and a few Bob in now may well be detrimental to us in the future.

06 Jul 2022 11:21:03
I'd, be a little sad too Abbey as I would like to see MGW succeed with us.
But you look at our squad and there is no reason there imo that we will be in trouble yes there always the danger of injury crisis but can say that for any team.
With our bad luck last 2 seasons I hope the law of averages work in our favour regarding major injuries.
Yes Alex our goals for column needs addressing I had forgotten about that.

06 Jul 2022 11:41:45
Your right of course phil, we do have the talent as things stand, and no reason to panic. Moutininho staying will sway and stabilise a few and as Alex says a couple of appropriate additions can underscore things. Cundle looks a big talent and we've got chinquito who looked the biz as sub v city. I think it's the click bait talk of us losing 'targets' etc that wrangles with some, but no matter,no matter who, we remain COYW pal.

06 Jul 2022 12:39:34
Let's not forget Heugo Bueno who was on fire last season.

06 Jul 2022 12:47:54
I’d like to see MGW stay for another year at least whether or not he signs the contract. If he has a great season this year then I think his market value wouldn’t fall in spite of the contract expiry situation.
Indeed I’d also like to get another year out of Traore.
I can imagine a front line of Neto, Traore (central) and MGW terrorising defences with skill and pace (remember Traore ripping apart Man Utd and Spurs at the start of last season running through the middle?). MGW could tuck into midfield in 442 mode for some games. With options like Raul, Podence and Ciqueno from the bench we could be much more productive goals-wise without spending money. We certainly need one or two defenders and midfield cover. Although the guy is a hero and I hate saying this, it could be time to cash in on our captain and commit to a back four. My opinions only and generally on the basis that we don’t appear to have a transfer budget aside from signing a few more youngsters.

06 Jul 2022 12:58:37
Winton your so right, Bueno was truly masterful in the success of the U23s last year and again is a young talent who can step up.

06 Jul 2022 16:49:39
442,433,532,5311 system last season from my seat in the Steve Bull looked a lot like 541 with the one dropping back to defend the near post for corners. At least Semedo said he’ll try to score a few, rest of the players are saying very little.

07 Jul 2022 10:04:08
Thommo-what do you want to us to do then sign a couple of players too late in the day, that they will struggle to come up to the mark? Maybe not had a pre-season. You could be right-not sure. If all the rumours are correct then your sources are wrong about any players coming because there is zilch transfer budget. Unless they are loan signings?
Just a thought also on peoples comments regarding switching Coady to midfield. No-one doubts his superb commitment at Wolves-but this his last opportunity to make a World Cup squad-will changing position be in his interest?

I seriously cannot believe that many of us are whetting our appetites at the new season. This pre-season reminds me of the last McCarthy took charge. 1 player bought in-Johnson-that is more than this season, and look what happened-incidentally the first home game that year was against Fulham.mmm. The squad is threadbare, tired, lacking in goal scoring options, physically lightweight and injury prone. Certain websites have us to finish 13th-I would snatch their hands off at that right now. Those same websites interestingly-and to cover themselves-also have us at the short odds of 6/1 to be relegated!
