I'm hearing that Dendonker is on his way out the club. Reliable info

{Ed002's Note - Leandro Dendoncker (DM) Seen as a replacement for Allan by Frank Lampard after losing out on several preferred options.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Did Freddy, ASDA Delivery Driver, or The Tinkerman tell you? top drawer sources if so.

None of those Debbie, it was the from the sausage role maker at my local Greggs ?

Lots of chatter on Everton boards saying this is what they are spending their Moise Kean money on. Personally I've always liked/rated him but he gets nothing but scape goating and abuse from plenty of our fans so let's see what they say if he goes?! If he does then we really will be down to the bare bones in midfield, especially as Lage decided to cut Jordao from the tour squad! Think they better hold off on that Cundle loan! ?

26 Jul 2022 14:28:34
Not saying that I'd be pleased to see the back of Dendoncker if this is true, but with us switching to a back 4, does that open the door for Coady to be playing the deepest of the three midfielders behind Neves and Moutinho?

26 Jul 2022 15:00:53
Why would any player go to Everton, seriously?

26 Jul 2022 15:18:05
If Dendoncker is sold and Nunes comes in then I wouldn't complain but I can't see that happening. We will probably bring in a 19 year old from Braga's youth team with three first team appearances and loan him to Grasshoppers

We discussed this very issue only a few days ago and my view - which not surprisingly sits pretty much in line with BBs - hasn't changed.
Only sell if the fee received allows us to replace with equal or better. Nunes would surely be an option, (albeit a different type of player), being a more natural AM than Dendonker -which we need.
Dendonker's versatility will however be missed - as he covers both Mid and Def but if we are moving to 4 at the back he won't be needed as much in def as of our currently 13 (yes 13 and that includes RAN, Kilman, Collins and MGW all of whom have modest premier league experinece), fit premier league players 4 are CBs. Note the 5 sub rule is really going to hurt us particularly come March and our older player's legs start to feel the season!
Debbie he is on big money and thus v few clubs will both give him regular football - which he needs in a world cup year if his international aspirations are to be met - and match his salary. Indeed Everton or perhaps Forest/Newcastle are the only ones?

Suggested that one myself Statto about six months back. The problem is that whilst I rate Connor (particularly his distribution) there are still parts of the game that losing Leander would mean we miss. Things like physicality, winning aerial duels and his relentlessly tackling back! Like I said plenty on here have been wanting him gone for a while, so as long as they were right then we have (literally) nothing to lose right?! Let's see cause if he goes the centre mid suddenly looks VERY light weight in terms of both numbers and physicality! Best case scenario we sell him to raise money for Nunes but I learnt long ago that the footy gods are rarely THAT kind! ??

26 Jul 2022 17:05:36
Agree with the Door opening for Coady playing deep, but he might not have the pace to play box to box like Donk. Neves doesn't have the pace either and its a waste of his passing skills IMO and Mouts just ain't got the legs at 35. I rate Donk he's a very useful squad member IMO.

26 Jul 2022 17:30:38
We had two full seasons of Coady playing holding midfield before he was switched to the defence and he didn't cut the mustard, even in the Championship, I'm afraid and I don't see that things would be different this time round.I know that one of the Ed's thinks differently and I'm happy to be proved wrong but I was there both home and away and don't believe that my eyes deceived me.

{Ed001's Note - you were playing under a different style of manager, when he played the role in a footballing side, like you are now, he was Championship player of the season. It is not that he didn't cut the mustard, it is that your coach before Nuno was crap.}

26 Jul 2022 17:55:04
I'm glad to hear the general consensus is people want DSendonker to stay, I rate the guy.

26 Jul 2022 18:03:42
Arddunby, confused by your pace comment as Dendonker is not fast at all. His strength is his stamina and physicality. He is excellent at getting in the box mainly due to our slow build up play, so he doesn't have to be fast. Moving to a more attacking approach will mean moving the ball quicker, which maybe why we would consider letting Donks go. I will be sorry to see him go, but like others have said, if we get more mobile players in, it will benefit both parties.

26 Jul 2022 19:03:53
I don't care who's manager or what formation we play coady will never be a premier league midfielder he was no good in the championship. Can't see wolves selling Dendoncker without at least 2 midfielders being brought in before the start of the season.

26 Jul 2022 19:21:19
Camo, I mean he's not Traore but without timing them what I'm saying i'd he appears to me a bit faster than Neves, Moutinho and Coady, but I may be wrong.

26 Jul 2022 19:23:08
I have said many times on 1 or 2 forums, I rate Donk, he does a lot of dirty work that goes unseen and has the ability to get box to box easily, watching some of the footage in pre season, it seems they have worked on him improving his shooting and getting into good positions.
Like him or loath him, he is a big part of our squad and his versatility would be missed if sold

26 Jul 2022 19:23:53
Thefutureisoldgold your comment on our older players come march I agree.
But pointing out I posted last week there will be one month less of playing time until the January window.
So therefore more games in the new year 2023.
But there the window in January to bring in reinforcements if required so at this point I will take this on board in my thoughts for the season coming at this point.
Coady has been pivotal to our establishment in the premier league and is a great humble guy.
But no one is indispensable and if right offer is made and we can be guaranteed the money received is spent on making us stronger and better then I would snap the hand off.
Dendonker I would keep not sure how much his value is but less than 20 million I would say,the same scenario as coady we need to replace to make us better and stronger.
Saw Everton sniffing round Viangre on a loan deal.

I have to agree with the Ed here, he was no good in the Champ when played in the wrong role, the wrong system and played by the wrong manager! He's was being used in the Dendonker ball winning role and he's never going to have the aerial ability for that! Sorry gents but the stats just don't back your point here! He has a 59% tackle win rate, a solid pass rate and I believe the season before last finished in the top five cbs for long range pass accuracy! His distribution is superb what he lacks is size. He could definitely work at cm in the right system, weather or not that translates to Lages system this year remains to be seen. I would also point our here that Lage has been VERY non committal about moving a way from the 5 at the back this year so for me keeping Coady is crucial! That's without even considering he's the best captain we've had for decades! I've said it before (think it was) Steve Holland (Southgates Assistant) when asked for his player of the last tournament he only said our very own Connor Coady! He said what he brings to the dressing room was priceless! Just think about that for a minute and think about some of the talent in that dressing room and our captain (who wasn't even starting I might add) was the one picked out for praise! I think he's earnt the chance to expand his game it's weather or not he'd want it. Cause with Englands midfield he ain't getting in there and that could actually be a bigger issue. Like all with the squad this year, time will tell ??

26 Jul 2022 20:45:51
Phil - the break for the world cup helping us is indeed a valid point as it will allow a further rest for most of the squad. Still not convinced our squad, given its relatively aged nature, is large enough though - even with Jimenez, Semedo and Traore back - to last the whole season and we have actually suffered from this problem, the squad being dead on its feet by March, for a number of years now.
BB I have commented on Coady playing as a DM in previous posts. If we are asking him to sit, effectively play as a sweeper in front of the 2 CBs maybe he could do it. {what formation would that mean 4,1,2,1,2 with MGW as the furthest forward 1 and Neto + 1 being the front 2?} However as you stated I very much doubt he will want to do so as he has made his name as a CB in a 3 and if we aren't playing a 3 - agreed the door isn't shut on that - maybe it is only fair to offer him the opportunity to leave if he wants to - as long as we get a good fee and of course as the money is reinvested into the team?

26 Jul 2022 21:48:53
Kenny Jacket will never set the world alight but to call him crap is an injustice. His tactics and organisation got us out of League 1 with ease and he steadied a very rocky ship, the fruits of which we are now enjoying. I stand by my stance that Coady will never make a Premier league midfielde;I saw enough of his midfield performances to recognise the difference between a manager's tactics and a player's performance.

26 Jul 2022 21:55:37
Future - as usual I agree with you buddy. To be honest I've got to a point with Neves and Coady where I'd hate to see either leave but if they did (for me) it would still be as club legends! They've both earned the chance to do something else if they wanted to. Of course that relys on a good fee but to be honest that's not on them, it's on the back room?

As for the formation well I think that can be far more fluid than it sometimes seems. For example if we played a 4-4-2 with Coady in the CM and MGW up front but in the hole then you could end up with some sort of weird diamond midfield?! Who knows, have to be honest I really can't tell what our formation will actually be for the majority of this season. We saw last season how quickly we reverted to the back 5, let's hope we get a win early doors with 4 at the back to help things settle quickly eh ?

27 Jul 2022 00:54:48
Old- I'm not aware of anyone saying Kenny Jackett was crap?! I agree with you, the man did great work for us and deserves every credit for it (also worth noting that he was a true gent throughout and managed to leave with dignity:). He did only work with Coady for one season mind, the manager that I was (more) referring to was Paul Lambert. Who for the record I also don't think is crap, but like Jackett he is on his best day a good Champ level manager. Nuno got the best out of Coady cause he built a system around him that used all his attributes. Now I think the sqauds evolved past that point however I also think Lage (like Nuno) has enough ability to find a way to use his assets in different ways. I will be the first to admit that when he moved him to cb I thought it was a fools errand, how wrong I was! You are also missing my point as its about the role he was being asked to play. Yes like you I watched him struggle at CM in the Champ but I also saw him prove me wrong at CB. Is it beyond the realms of possibility that with years more experience he isn't capable of proving peeps wrong again?!
Like I say this could all be academic cause I think we will be playing 5 at the back next season more often than we don't, kind of hope I'm wrong on that front mind ??
