Hello everyone, new Wolverhampton Wanderers poster, I have just received an email from " Wolves " for the August fixtures, I noticed a couple of things, one quite trivial but the other quite annoying and possibly quite disturbing.
The first is the opening fixture which shows Leeds United, (Badge) v Wolves, (Badge) but then lists the fixture as Wolves v Leeds United?
Everyone knows the Home team is always listed first, trivial yes but not what you expect from an actual Football Club.

The second, in all the fixtures listed the opposing team is listed in full, ie Tottenham Hotspur (as you would expect),not Spurs, but our team is listed as Wolves, not Wolverhampton Wanderers, in every fixture listed there is no mention of Wolverhampton Wanderers. I find this very annoying but more worrying because it is obviously intentional and not just sloppy journalism / reporting. Is this part of the plan to take the Wolverhampton Wanderers out of the Wolves? We are all aware that as far as Fosun are concerned the brand is " Wolves " so is this a change in the " Official " club name which will be made public when the " fading process " is complete?

Questions need to be asked I think!

Agree0 Disagree0

Wolves ay we Fido, I wouldn't worry too much.

Welcome to the site Fido_Dido. I doubt that's a big issue as the club registered with the FA will be Wolverhampton Wanderers FC plus don't the BBC still say Wolverhampton Wanderers when they read out the football results?
The name Wolves and the iconic badge is known throughout the world so a marketing dream really and it's obvious both Fosun and the club will promote it. So well known is it that the town name doesn't need to be used, everyone knows Wolves means The Wolves.
I realised this when walking through Schipol Airport with my Wolves training top on under my jacket but the badge was still spotted by a member of staff and instantly recognised as The Wolves was commented on, positively I might add.

Hey Fido, welcome to the site. Fosun have always been very open about the fact that the branding of the wolf in 'Wolves' would play VERY well in the Asian markets (and that helped them decide to go with us). So much so in fact that when they made a production company the first film they kicked in towards was called 'Alpha' and was all about the domestication of dogs (it looks awful so I haven't actually watched it:).
I wouldn't worry about it though fella, the guy from Hull wanted to change them to 'The Tigers' or he'd leave nd we all know how that turned out! Don't think Fosun would actually try to change the name to be honest mostly cause as we saw with Hull it brings FAR more negative press which then kind of defeats the whole point of a rebrand. I noticed that we actually had our chairman at a game for the first time in years (not a dig under recent circumstances) last week so maybe they did it to win favour with him? To be honest I suspect it's just more of a (cheap) PR move rather than a precursor to anything more sinister ??

Wolverhampton wanderers is the longest name in league and takes up a lot of space when printed or on screen and can ruin the symmetry of a screen or page unless centralised. Hence the use of wolves. But we've wolves since the 70s to my knowledge, we had it on our own programmes then. Prior to that the programmes bore the full title and if used we were 'The Wolves'. So Fosun are only utilising the title.

Likewise spurs, man u, forest etc

BullysBoy ll and Abbeywolf, I understand and accept your points of view on this topic but in your example Abbey spurs, man u or forest are not " Brands " and in the case of man u, the brand is " Manchester United FC and spurs is Tottenham Hotspur FC, I'm not sure about forest but I remember that the great Brian Clough would savage anyone who referred to his team as anything but Nottingham Forest.
I agree that Fosun have been completely open about the name "Wolves" being at the forefront of the creation of a global brand but I doubt that the choice is because it's a tidy abbreviation. Believe or not there are lots of organisations with the " Brand " " Wolves " but there is only one with the "Brand" " Manchester United FC ".
The point I'm trying to make is this clearly Fosun want the " Wolves " Brand to become a a successful global Brand, (as do all of us), but unless the link between the " Wolves " " Brand " and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is made explicit as opposed to implicit then the more successful the " Brand " "Wolves" becomes, the possibility of the name Wolverhampton Wanderers FC becoming archaic and obscure especially to new younger fans from other countries.
Finally my last word on this topic
I promise, it's interesting to note that all the top English teams with massive global "Brands" obtained them as a result of mostly as a result of continuing success of the football team, it looks on the face of it that Fosun are trying to achieve the massive global "Brand" in order to obtain the success of the football team, not quite same is it?

All the best, Wolves aye we!

Get your point fido but what exactly are fosun selling as 'wolves' independently from Wolverhampton wanderers? Wolves records?. Surely, as you say, many things are sold under wolves from images to T'shirts ditto spurs, or swans or bluebirds or Robins or magpies to name more. I don't really see what your getting at. Everything wolves bearing our badge is wolverhampton wanderers owned.
