I think there will be others with more Premier experience available after this round of fixtures. Everyone will be finalising their squads and planning their last minute deals. Managers will be having difficult conversations with those who they feel will benefit from loans, and those names will be quickly shared with interested parties.

They will try to sell others, but purchasing clubs should be able to negotiate loans with an option to buy.

It would be hypocritical of me to moan about slow Traore going, but he was purchased for Euro 11m and is being sold for Euro4m.
So not a brilliant signing, especially given that he didn't pull up trees in the handful of games he played for the club whilst he was here.
Nevertheless, it removes his wages and amort from the numerator, and even at Euro4m adds a little bit to the denominator, so positive from an SCR perspective.


However, as most would regard him as preferable to Munetsi as the back up to James, this modest gain does come at a cost from the playing side.
Amazing in this summer of insane transfers, Wolves are finding out that insanity only goes so far!

I'd rather keep Munetsi than Traore. The guy never stops running, and with a bit more time, I think he will be the ideal player to link the defence to the attack with his runs, which will inevitably pull opposition players away from their own defensive duties.

Trouble is, good, this is football, not athletics. Having said that, the Championship is Munetsi's level, so he should hopefully be able to do some sort of job.

TFIOG, while it looks a loss, Traore was an exciting young midfield talent when he was signed.

Many clubs were interested in him.

The issue with youngsters is all the top coaches are sucked in by big clubs.

It would be good to see the club come up with a different project for developing the academy in the future. I know there are links with Wolverhampton Grammar, but maybe the whole academy needs a rejuvenation so we have a better offering, both football wise and personal development wise, till academy players reach 21 or 22.

Maybe a relationship with Mendes coaches and a specialised institution solely for the academy would help them football wise.



I actually think the Leicester academy is too big in that it loses the connection between the squads and the path to the first team.

Also, word of note, players under 22 yrs old are still young; everyone develops at different rates. Fans need to understand that at all clubs.

But I do think it should be more like rugby in that rugby players are in full time education or training until 21. They have qualifications to take on different professions after their playing career. This ultimately keeps them disciplined and focussed rather than having loads of money and thinking they have made it at such a young age.

2ndgen, fair points, although worrying that you feel he was poorly developed and that the Wolves academy is failing. The number of players successfully coming out of it, though, maybe backs your assertion.
For me, though, he has always looked clumsy on the ball, and a better athlete than a footballer, and so I was not surprised he didn't develop.


Ironic that he is competing with Munetsi, who seems like a similar player. {You can add Toti to that list as well!}
I acknowledge, though, that I am biased in favour of players that can do things I can't, like control the ball, rather than people who can do what I can/could do i.e. run!

Fair points, TFIOG. I don't think changing manager every 18 months, and his injuries, have helped him. During the same period, we have had Fabio Silva, another player that was wasted in my opinion. He did okay aged 18 in his first season, but wasn't mentored or supported in the right way. Yes, we can say money would make him happy, but I do think there's more to how different players tick. Silva played against Villa in April 2023 and was amazing, and got MOTM. I think it was more that Podence played, and he played it to his feet, rather than the ball being played to him as a target man.

I think the academy is a concern, as that's how clubs our size keep making pure profit. Chelsea broke all the rules in 2004 and have never looked back since, bringing in £100m plus a season from academy sales.

Surely we should look for ideas out of the box and develop an environment where we scout locally in the Black Country, Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Herefordshire, and develop players here.

Also, I've heard from a scout that a lot of players are chosen purely on athletic ability, 6ft plus, fast, etc. This scout worked at Liverpool; it was believed that their coaches could develop their football skills. Remember, the pool the big clubs have, though, is probably twenty times the pool we have, I would imagine.

But I just don't think our programme is that exciting to possible recruits, so you end up with the leftovers.

Some players I feel that could have developed more at Wolves, though, Burr, Lembiska, Silva, Vinagre, Giles, and Doyle, to a certain extent.

The club didn't really have the path to develop these players.

Not sure he is leaving. Jordan James is a fair way off being match fit, so we need someone to be first off the bench, as a central midfield substitute. Personally, I would look for Traore ahead of Doyle, and think this may well be the manager's preference.

Wolfwhistle, he might not leave if they upped their offer. Remember Caesar put Traore on the transfer list along with Sasa, Hwang and Hoever. Plus, he only has one year remaining on his contract, but at Wolves you just never know what's around the corner.

Doyle needs a few games, and for the fans to love him. Confidence would flood back, then he could be the expressive midfielder pigging 30-50m passes directly to the raiding wingers, Fer Lopez and Armstrong of the team. He has a good pedigree that needs nurturing. When he has bagged a couple of goals from outside the penalty area, the South Bank will sing his praises.

He is a sub player at best, Doyle. Unfortunately, he had a poor season on loan at the Blues too. I honestly don't rate him. He's not consistent enough.

I have to agree about Doyle. I never understood some fans' hype over him, but everyone has a different opinion. He has made 58 appearances for Wolves, and I have just never been that impressed. The only time I think he looks half decent is against poor sides.

He does make the odd decent long pass here and there, but I think if we get promoted, he would be out of his depth again. Maybe under a different coach, in a different team, he could be better, but so far, as the comment above says, he is sub at best.

Expect to cover the cost of Virginia (£1.3m to a max £2.8m).

Oxleymoorwolf, how much do you want Wolves to spend on a back up keeper? Seems like Sa is staying, which is class news. There won't be many better keepers in the Championship. I'd rather the club spend bigger money at centre back and on the wing, which will hopefully happen.

Sa is a good goalkeeper. Undoubtedly capable in this league. Surprised he wasn't picked up by top flight clubs here or in Europe. No 2 for Portugal in this summer's World Cup. His handling is top class and he likes to come and catch crosses. Too many keepers palm and punch these days.
I know fans are calling for a new winger, but I think we have a really good prospect already through the door. Rafiki Said looks the business to me.

Watch his videos. He is totally comfortable going outside or cutting inside, and can shoot with both feet. Perhaps a pre season friendly against a sixth tier team on a less than perfect surface wasn't the best idea. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Hopefully, his recovery is on track, and he will be available after the international break. My preference would be a back up striker rather than a wide man.

To be honest, if he can replace Johnstones' extortionate wage whilst also ticking a huge box of being homegrown, then he seems like an absolute steal at £1.3m! Not sure what peeps are expecting exactly? We now know Sa is staying, meaning this guy is unlikely to start much, but the odd cup match, so it seems like very sensible business to me. Also worth noting that this is our second signing in 48hrs, the other being Ruddy. They know he is still more than capable of stepping in at this level. Now, we just need 2x wingers (one on short-term loan, just to cover Sa's injury) and a striker (Dozier and Ferguson, maybe).

I'd like another CB, but suspect that's gonna be a one-in, one-out situation at this stage, as we currently have more numbers there than most positions. Then we might just have a team and, more importantly, a manager that's ready to push forward in this league. COYW 🐺

Sa is a good keeper who has his moments the same as every other player. I do get scared with the ball at his feet, but he is confident in himself with the ball at his feet, so that's good. It is good business letting go of a keeper who we could get an okay amount for and bring in someone cheaper on a lower wage.



Personally, I would like to see an attacking winger and centre half if we lose Bueno or Krejci. If we can only get one, then I would say winger, as that is where we lack the most at the moment.

Josh Gracey is a good goalkeeper but needs game time. He had a loan last year with Telford, and now needs an upgrade to get more experience. If he could play regularly in League One or the Scottish Premier League, then he might be ready to step up next year.

We desperately need to offload Johnston, as you can't afford two goalkeepers on top wages in the Championship.
