Goalkeeper merry go round.
Okonkwo formally of Wrexham is closing in on a move to Derby.
Sa looks to be heading in the direction of Olympiacos but Braga could be looking to steal the deal.
Zettestrom to Wolves?
30 Jul 2026 19:44:07
Zetterstrom would be a superb signing. Here's hoping.
30 Jul 2026 13:30:08
See we're linked to Medina a Colombian CB although the source is a bit dubious The 72, if true though I think this shows despite the difficulties of the World Cup the club have and are trying to get their business done as early as possible. Yes Saids injury is
unfortunate but 3 through the door, 4 if you count Krejci and at least 1 more well advanced is considerably more at this stage than there was last season. So despite all the moans to the contrary I think Nathan Shi is trying to back up his words. Surely this is a good thing???
30 Jul 2026 14:41:24
Flea71, why do Wolves need another CB when they have 5 now, and CP plays a back 4? It doesn't make any sense. Especially when they are desperate for at least 1 or 2 MF, another striker, and a left winger. And another GK if Sa or Johnstone leave, which is likely, as both don't want to play Championship football.
30 Jul 2026 15:57:39
We needed a big squad overhaul this year, with a massively bloated squad, and we've barely done a thing so far. Aside from Trippier and Raul, there is absolutely nothing to praise, and 2 good signings when we need at least 6, and it's already August.
30 Jul 2026 16:53:00
Both played Championship football last season, DMac.
30 Jul 2026 17:28:30
The squad needed streamlining, the dead wood needed selling and the good players who were heading out needed replacing.
Sa - Replace.
Johnstone - deadwood.
Bentley - Keep.
Lima - Keep.
Tchatchoua - deadwood.
Hoever - deadwood.
Doherty - replaced by Trippier. ✅
Bueno - Keep/Replace.
Wolfe - Keep/Replace.
Toti - Replace.
Bueno - Keep.
Mosquera - Keep.
Krejci - Keep/Replace.
Djiga - deadwood.
Bellegarde - Replace.
Andre - Keep.
Traore - sell/replace.
Munetsi - Keep/Replace.
Doyle - Keep/Replace.
Edozie - Keep/Loan.
Mane - Keep.
Lopez - Keep.
Hwang - deadwood/ Rafiki replace?.
Gomes - Keep.
Chirewa - Sell.
Armstrong - Keep.
Kalajdzic - deadwood/keep?.
Tolu - Replaced Raul.
Chiwome - Loan.
Streamline the squad, reduce wages, and, if we sell, then we replace with good first team players and good depth.
Apologies if it looks confusing. Just something I would do. The squad doesn't look great at the moment.
30 Jul 2026 17:58:50
Nasser Djiga definitely isn't deadwood.
Nasser Djiga will become a Rolls-Royce. He's one signing Fosun got absolutely spot on.
30 Jul 2026 18:45:18
Friend of mine, real Rangers supporter, spoke to him re.
30 Jul 2026 18:49:08
Re Djiga. Friend of mine, Rangers fan, told me last season on loan he was poor, had a decent game every 4 to 5 games. Need better.
30 Jul 2026 19:49:35
Better sell him then. Your pal reckons he's no good.
Didn't he improve under a new manager? The guy is going to be class. Wily Bolly 2.0.
Talking of Rangers fans, I know one, and he thought Fabio Silva was the mutts nuts.
30 Jul 2026 20:57:52
Djiga was a disaster at Rangers. And, as for all this sell/replace/deadwood garbage, we never get players in place early, then buy last minute garbage. Nothing has changed. Rail&Trips will soon see they've been sold a lie.
Then again, Jonhson is a good enuf keeper. Wolfe& Bueno... Bueno, Krejki&Trips, R. Gomez, Andre, Mane, Armstrong, Raul... shud be good enuf to at least keep us in the division, so long as they can all play 90mins twice a week. 🤣🤣🤣
29 Jul 2026 17:59:55
I see Bastien Meupiou is attracting a lot of interest and if his club get the 15 million Euros they are allegedly holding out for then we'll get about £6.5million due to sell on clause. Not bad if they decide it's free profit and put it back into new players.
29 Jul 2026 18:35:31
Do Wolves have a buy back clause?
If he is now rated highly, and a Euro 15m fee would indicate he is, could Wolves activate that clause - allegedly less than a £1m?
He is still under 21, and thus would he be exempt from the foreign player limits?
His pace and physicality would seem to be a good fit for the Champ?
29 Jul 2026 19:20:16
We do and could, but I suspect the player wouldn't be happy, as interest is from big clubs in European comps such as Dortmund and Galatasaray, etc. Not sure it was a limited amount. I think we have to meet any offer, as well, so Wolves may just want to take the quick profit.
29 Jul 2026 20:34:41
If that is the case, what a terrible transfer it was last year.
Bought for 5, sold a year later for at most 1 to Alverca, then only a further year later they sold for potentially 15.
Wolves only get a 50% share of the vast profit it makes!
Given the sale price last year was irrelevant, why wasn't he loaned out instead, then all this upside, or indeed the player himself, would be coming to Wolves.
Take your point about the player being unhappy about having to come back to/stay at Wolves - seemingly, that describes many of the players who have been at this toxic club Jeff created.
What a shambles!
29 Jul 2026 20:50:20
Isn't hindsight wonderful.
When Meupiyou was here, he hardly pulled up any trees and no one really cares that he went.
The fact that the club put in a clause was decent business. Some players just suit certain clubs.
29 Jul 2026 22:39:41
Remember Benik Afobe, we brought back and sold, it's like that maybe.
30 Jul 2026 08:21:10
SimonandLaura, brilliant. Of course, that is the solution.
Depending on what the buy back fee is, and logically it should be slightly more than the fee he was sold to Alverca for - I believe it is Euro 1m as he was sold for a nominal sum - then exercise that option and on sell.
Goodwhileitlasted1, of course no one could tell that he would come good.
However, he was bought out of youth football for Euro 5m, a pretty large fee for a kid with almost no senior football experience, someone must have raved about him.
Consequently, selling him a year later after zero minutes of senior football for pretty close to zero was very strange.
As I said, why not loan him out - the financial impact would have been pretty much the same - and give the kid a chance to come good under Wolves ownership?
30 Jul 2026 14:05:55
TFIOG, he had some senior football experience in France when we bought him and was highly rated. It was Wolves that put him back into u21 development after he picked up an injury, but, as I remember it, the 5 mill was at the time seen as a bargain.
30 Jul 2026 17:59:56
Flea, a handful of games in level 5 of the French system (i.e. what would be described as non-league here), and 9 minutes of senior football, so you are correct. However, I did say almost no senior football, so I would argue 9 minutes is an accurate description of "almost no" senior football.
But, if, as you say, he was rated and had an injury, why was he given away without having any chance to prove himself?
As it happens, once given a chance he turned out, it seems, to be a perfectly competent player - at least seemingly bigger teams in Europe think so?
So why did Wolves buy him and then write him off?
Why didn't they give him a chance?
Of course, if the deal was structured as I think and Wolves can do an "Afobe" as "SimonandLaura" suggest, then fine, but if the deal is, as you suggest, merely an option to match a transfer fee or take 50% of the profit on sale, it was grossly incompetent!
Buy high, sell v low, buy back high is not really a smart idea, particularly when you can simply cut out the sale in the middle and replace it with a loan with the same financial ramifications.
28 Jul 2026 16:15:20
According to posts on X, Said has suffered a MCL injury. Depending on the severity, he could miss 3 months of the season.
28 Jul 2026 16:48:22
Can we not get a break?! 😫
28 Jul 2026 17:21:16
Why on earth arrange a pre-season friendly at Macclesfield with a concrete pitch, just asking for trouble!
Just got to question the risk assessment on acute possibility of injury to players.
Now, look where it's got us!
28 Jul 2026 18:23:05
It's the Wolves Way.
Next season's pre-season tour will be in Iran, and the players will be wearing 1940s British Army boots filled with broken glass.
28 Jul 2026 20:21:29
The game was against Maidenhead, and was part of the Max Kilman deal to West Ham.
28 Jul 2026 21:58:27
Looks like Bellegarde will be keeping him company for a few weeks as well!
28 Jul 2026 23:31:05
The Macclesfield game was the U21s, yes?
29 Jul 2026 09:51:31
I seem to remember the same thing happening last season. The manager puts the players through really hard training sessions, and then players fall like flies as they get injured.
27 Jul 2026 18:04:11
Reports have linked us with Alexsandro Amorim. Not heard his name branded about but is a similar type player to Joao Gomes (not my rumour just one I’ve seen).
Apparently a goalkeeper is on the verge. Some reports suggest Joao Virginia (I seriously hope not).
Lyon have also pulled out the race for Zetterstrom.
Jordan Holsgrove has been linked also. Doesn’t seem like a progressive midfielders but could be a tidy player 🤷. Does he get in over Lopez, Andre, Munetsi, Doyle at the moment?
What are your thoughts on these links?
27 Jul 2026 22:19:17
I'd be a bit disappointed if the best we can get in are Amorim and Virginia. It just shows all we've waited on is Mendes to throw us a few players, and Matt Jackson and Nathan Shi haven't done any actual planning with the recruitment team. If they come in as squad players, fine, but when players who are Championship-ready like Jordan James and Radek Vitek are still available, they have to go and get them, especially when you consider how they keep saying play-offs aren't good enough.
We've made a lot of money in the last few windows, they need to go out and get top sensible targets.
28 Jul 2026 10:00:05
Fosun needs to FO. In the meantime, the entire recruitment team needs sacking.
28 Jul 2026 11:48:40
So, from your comment, I take it that you're not happy with Trippier, Raul and Said coming to the club?
28 Jul 2026 12:21:56
I don't actually understand why so many fans are pant-wetters. The window doesn't close until the end of August. West Ham have bought one very cheap player, it's the way it usually works. Clubs move later in the window.
Signing Trippier and Raul is huge, and means we have one of the best right backs and CFs in the league. More signings will follow. Some people need to chill out and find something else to take up their time.
28 Jul 2026 13:15:10
QS, who is going to make Fosun FO and also sack the entire recruitment team? Any ideas? Fosun came in ten years ago as White Knights after Morgan was sort of hounded out. A decade of good times and bad times followed. But, it's fixable, and Fosun are the only show in town until they've fixed it. When it's fixed, they can sell it.
28 Jul 2026 17:22:54
Do the decent thing and sell the club - that's what they need to do. You expect me to be delirious by getting in a couple of 35-year-olds and a winger who is now out with a season-defining injury? I have said many times before on this site we take three steps forward and ten steps back, and, until we have proper, bona fide owners who not only seek proper progression for the club but compete against the cheats and liars, we will continue to support a below-average club.
28 Jul 2026 17:23:42
TG, we have 0 players capable of stepping up to the Premier League. We've signed Raul and Trips, who won't feature in the Premier League. This is our opportunity to sell dead wood and bring in some decent players who can develop this season.
There's no transfer strategy.
28 Jul 2026 18:16:52
Just hope Peixoto can transform the remaining players like Nuno transformed Helder Costa, Ivan Caveleiro and Romain Saiss etc.
28 Jul 2026 18:26:35
Wolfoftheeast, I appreciate your long-term thinking, but I don't think we should even be thinking about getting players in, ready for the Premier League. We aren't going to walk this league.
That sort of thinking will end in disaster. The squad needs proven Championship players before we even think about a return to the Prem. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. This season will be a slog.
29 Jul 2026 07:28:45
It's dangerous just preparing for the Championship, Tgwolves.
There are players available to prepare to play an attractive style of football, and set the foundations for the next 5 years.
Obviously some of our players are still away after the World Cup, so there should be movement soon.
But 3-4 experienced Championship players, like Trippier, Armstrong, Bentley, and Doyle, are helpful. I'd sign another experienced CB, as I think you need that experience in the winter, like we had with Ryan Bennett.
The forwards are normally quick, young players from around the world having a go. But it would be good to sign one youngster with pace from England, and 2 like Andre Luis or Patrao to link with Raul.
I think our squad will be strong, but it's more the style I want to see an improvement in, ready for the Prem, but also so it's enjoyable to watch again.
Nuno was very successful in getting the fanbase buying into the style of Wolves, with the 343 seen as our style from the start 1950s.
29 Jul 2026 08:30:24
I agree in many ways, but I don't think planning for the Prem should be our main focus. Take Sunderland, for example. Their squad was nowhere near it after winning the Play Offs, so they essentially ripped up and started again. They brought in lots of new faces, and it paid off. I'm not suggesting that's the best approach for every club, but I think we need a squad for here and now, with a few quality additions capable of making the step up.
The Nuno Championship side is never going to be repeated; most clubs have to invest heavily when they go up. I'd be content with us being around the top and competing come January, investing in the squad with added quality when the window opens.
29 Jul 2026 08:57:38
Bentley and Tommy Doyle are lower-league team players at best. Doyle couldn't even get in a Brum side that finished in about 10th. We need a much better number 10 to compete in the Championship. Maybe Fer Lopez, Edozie or Mane.
27 Jul 2026 13:08:46
Jordan James deal is not close. My mistake. Tolu deal to Ajax is very close 17mill with option to buy. Sorry about the James situation hopeing it was true but unfortunatley its not.
27 Jul 2026 13:20:29
Don't see the club spending the money they'd have to spend to get James. Could be wrong, but I have a feeling they're looking for the 5-10 million pound mark. James would probably be 15+.
28 Jul 2026 17:23:53
James off to Fulham.
27 Jul 2026 13:01:31
Some interesting news if true. Tolu on his way to Ajax, a loan then 17mill deal agreed. Jordan James supposedly on his way for a medical. Don't know much else on the James one but Tolu leaving. If both true, great bit of biusness from Wolves. James I think 10mill.
27 Jul 2026 12:50:40
Tolo gone, at least on loan with a loan fee and his wages being paid. Glad to get the toxicity out of the door.
27 Jul 2026 13:02:46
Deal agreed for Tolu Arokodare to join Ajax on loan, with a buy option of around £17million.
Dutch club will cover his full wages, and pay Wolves a loan fee plus further bonuses based on Ajax's qualification for European competitions.
Easier to add to your post than start a new one, mate. lol.
27 Jul 2026 13:27:47
Thanks Rated, for the extra info. :)
27 Jul 2026 20:37:53
Is it an option or an obligation?
I gather the loan fee is circa £1m, so is nowhere near enough to cover his amort.
However, I guess even if it leaves Wolves paying most of his amort, it is good to get his wages off the books.
Even if, he says cynically, only for the year, as it is not an obligation but an option that may well, to put it mildly, not be exercised.
27 Jul 2026 21:16:17
What I don't get, TfioG, is that we were told plans were in place in April/May.
Even with the change of manager, surely the club could have moved the players we don't want in the three months wasted?
As I wouldn't keep many of the squad from last season.
Sa (just for experience, and probably the best GK in the Championship), Lima, Hugo Bueno or Wolfe, Andre, Gomes (shouldn't have been sold that cheap), Mane, R Gomes, Edozie and Armstrong.
The rest of the squad from last season could go for me. It was pathetic.
They are wasting time, and it's really frustrating. We need a strong start and a League Cup run. That's what our club is all about, tradition. Odcl.
27 Jul 2026 22:02:18
Hard to disagree, but you can only sell players others want.
As discussed previously, this also applies to the seemingly very low price for J. Gomes.
It's very odd, isn't it? (Polite word for somewhat greater frustration and anger!)
PS, I agree with your list, but I'd add Krejci and maybe Yerson?
26 Jul 2026 22:05:07
From Wolves Fancast.
The club are set to announce the arrival of a new goal keeper in the next few days.
They are also looking at a midfielder who currently plays in Europe but is South American.
Does not mention any names so we'll wait and see.
27 Jul 2026 08:44:18
Fingers crossed. 🤞 🙏
27 Jul 2026 08:44:54
Gustavo Puerta is the midfielder in question to this 15/18m is the amount that is be said, he's got an engine on him box to box midfielder and he's got some skill about him! Watch this space?
27 Jul 2026 09:25:08
I can't see Wolves paying 15 to 18 mill on one player. Reports have been saying they're after Niko Sigur from Hidjuk Split. His value is reported to be 5 to 10 mill, and he is a box to box midfielder.
27 Jul 2026 11:09:26
Is Viktor Johansen the goalie being talked about?
27 Jul 2026 11:40:57
Sigur is a very good player, he's versatile, and would be great with Andre.
24 Jul 2026 08:14:49
Wolves scouts and a coach were watching QPR friendlies in Austria. Been told Richard Kone is being looked at. Don't know much about him, but could be a younger player to compete with Raul. Got 10 goals in his first Championship season last season and meant to be better fast. Ticks the home grown box too.
24 Jul 2026 11:07:42
All we do is watch, show interest, monitor.
24 Jul 2026 11:30:29
The only rumours that ever seem to come true are those reported by Talking Wolves tbh. There's got to be things going on quietly behind the scenes.
24 Jul 2026 22:13:06
Another week wasted.
Jackson out.
25 Jul 2026 10:53:16
My feeling is that we won't be building an ambitious team like we had when we stormed the Championship in 2018 under Nuno. In that season, Nuno had a clean slate, with none of the expensive legacy duds we have now to hold us back financially and on the playing field.
That said, given a good head coach, many modest teams get promoted. The trick is staying up, and the real investment starts then. My gut feeling is that this is our modus operandi right now. To try and replicate the quality of the 2018 team is probably unaffordable and risky.
25 Jul 2026 11:58:21
You have to plan to go up though.
That was the reason we were successful in 2018.
None of our CBs are good enough to play a back 4, and there's not enough pace upfront.
So we may go up, as they may be too good for the Championship.
I doubt it with our forwards though.
26 Jul 2026 08:08:49
No, our c/backs are not good, only Kreji is, and we need 3 more asap and a goal scorer defensive midfielder.
26 Jul 2026 12:22:10
I don't get some comments above. If Krejci stays, then a back four of Trippier, Mosquera, Krejci and Moller Wolfe is easily good enough for the Championship, and with decent quality and support in front, not bad for the prem, but would need strengthening and more depth. At Championship level, our backup defenders should be ok too, although some strengthening wouldn't hurt.
Our biggest issue by far in the last few seasons has been confidence and lack of structure, with constant changes, not quality of player, as individually they are all capable, but, due to the above, have been prone to too many mistakes. A new formation and purpose, together with Trippier's experience and know-how, should really help with this.
26 Jul 2026 13:06:44
No chance mate we have no pace in our defence even with Trippier added.
In a back 3, we may look okay depending on who Cesar chooses.
But, we were abysmal at the back last season, which is a reason why we got relegated. If we could have kept clean sheets from November, we would have probably stayed up.
In a back 4, we need pace and technical ability. Alleyne and Arrey-Mbi, plus Webster, would be a massive upgrade.
Mosquera, Bueno, and Krejci need to go, one because they are worth a fair bit, and secondly because they have reached their limits. Krejci was responsible for some of the goals we conceded as well.
He just looked good in comparison to the shambles we had.
As I've said, it's a chance to change, as the back 3 or 5 has been there since Nuno.
Tactics have changed, we need the personnel to make that switch. I'd arguably keep Toti in case a back 3 is needed, and we do look more balanced when he plays. Unless we sign another cb that is left footed.
Don't get me started on midfield (where we need two more cms and keep Traore or Doyle) to play a midfield 3 in some games.
And three forwards with pace and technical ability like Jota, Cavaleiro or Helder Costa.
26 Jul 2026 13:19:48
Agree with your response, Flea71. A lot of people are over-stating the quality of the Championship. Assuming Krejci and S Bueno leave, a back four of Trippier, Mosquera, Toti and Bueno/Wolfe is a good place to start. Would like another cb to come in, but I wouldn't say we're desperate. We're crying out for another cm, a winger and a keeper before anything else.
27 Jul 2026 21:00:06
TG, I agree with Flea re the defence in the Champ, and you on the pressing needs. However I think Krejci to Toti is a massive downgrade, and a step too far. Like you, I think a new GK is required, unless Sa can get his head right, which seems unlikely. I am also far more worried re the front 6 - who plays alongside Andre and the 3 behind Raul? Mane and Gomes give me some hope, but are young and may struggle to cope over the whole season.
Whilst Lopez, seemingly everyone's idea of a saviour, I doubt will even be here or wants to be, let alone be up to it. Behind them, the bench looks pretty thin. Armstrong should/will start for me (as Lopez won't be here!), but then it is slim pickings.
27 Jul 2026 21:22:24
The defence is poor as a back 4, but as a 3 or 5 it may be strong in the Championship.
But Cesar is playing a back 4, so three cbs are needed. I agree Toti isn't good enough, but I do think he can be useful in a back three if needed, cover at lb if needed, and he does bring balance to the defence. But his lack of pace one v one is a concern if the Prem.
My posts are literally raising concern that we are playing a back 4 with two cbs, with neither pace nor technical ability.
I'm worried about the forwards. We need another three; I'd sell Tolu, Hwang, Bellagarde for three decent forwards to get us promoted.
We also need two midfielders to go with Andre and Doyle (as he is homegrown).
28 Jul 2026 16:53:53
If Krejci stays, he's quicker than most seem to credit him with, as is Yerson, plus both are quite physical and won't easily let someone just run past them or away from them. Not saying it won't happen, just not often, and only against the best, most football savvy forwards in the Championship.
Really disagree that these players can't play in a back four, they have done at international level - not all the time, but on occasion.
23 Jul 2026 17:55:33
Viktor Johanson is a target for Wolves and Wolves are in pole position to sign him. However, it is understood that Wolves will only advance talks when either one of Johnstone or Jose Sa is sold.
23 Jul 2026 23:40:31
Well, by the time that we pull our fingers out and offer a ridiculously low amount, the player will either turn us down or will go to a club with bigger ambitions, etc.
24 Jul 2026 08:27:39
From Stoke, does anyone know if he's any good? I aint seen him play.
24 Jul 2026 08:32:41
Never seen him play, but think I've read somewhere a Stoke fan said he's one of the best keepers in the league. Not sure how much you can believe of that tho.
24 Jul 2026 19:37:38
One of the best goalkeepers in the Championship. Arguably head and shoulders above anything Wolves have.
Watch highlights of him, and he has Inspector Gadget extendable arms. He makes incredible saves. Still young for a keeper.
