Looks like A. Gomes will not be signing for us unless we are a Premier League team.

Thank goodness for that! The irony is that, if we were still a Prem team, then he clearly isn't good enough. He's a fool, because a team in the Champ looks like his level right now. Honestly, from what I've seen, the guy's a complete waste of a footy shirt!

He's too lightweight for the Championship. He would get knocked over bringing out the water bottles!

I must be in the minority. I think he is good on the ball and looks to pass forward and make things happen.

Injuries haven't helped, but on his debut he looked good, and on Friday he was not so good. You can see he likes to pass quickly, but at this point, he isn't quite good enough. He and Doyle in the Championship would be a good combination.

To be honest, I don't think we've played in a fashion to see his full potential. I agree, he looks lightweight and he's not suited to a defensive 'unit'.
Maybe, if he had more space and freedom to do what he's capable of, we'd see his quality, but no matter, if he's not up to a Championship campaign, then we're better off without him.

Explain, please, how Doyle would be a good midfield fit in the Championship. Do those suggesting this follow what he is doing for Birmingham. Not a guaranteed starter for a team who are not in a play-off spot. Check his stats... not impressive at all. If we are looking to bounce straight back - Doyle is not the answer.

Wolfthistle, I base my statement on seeing him play for Wolves. I admit that I haven't seen him play for Birmingham, but my mate is a season ticket holder at St Andrews and says that Doyle usually runs the midfield. He's also played 32 of the 36 league games, so he is pretty much a starter.
Paul Ince never got many goals or assists, but was awesome for us. Doyle, although not on the same level as Ince, can easily slot into our midfield and dictate the game. The more explosive, attack-minded players will play in front of him.

I've seen a fair few of their games. Good, and fair to say, he'd be a good Championship squad player for us, but not someone with that little extra to help us get into the two automatic promotion places.

A couple of my mates are Blues fans, and they absolutely rave about Doyle. Personally, I think it will be a case of beggars can't be choosers for us next season, and he will definitely be a nailed-on starter for us next season.

Don't shoot me down, but wasn't Doyle loaned with an option to buy?
12 Mar 2026 05:21:52
KHWolf, it was an obligation to buy if Blues got promoted.
