I've heard it's reported that the whole program is being held up because of the delays in the sale of just one player, Joao Gomes. Why would that be the case if true?

I suspect Long, because it's hard to spend money that we don't actually have. I think the Gomes money was likely earmarked for contributing towards Cesar's transfer budget. The cynic in me also wonders if this is why we have suddenly put a low price tag on Mane.

Let's be honest, we don't have a lot of assets worth big money. With Andre tied down, that pretty much leaves Gomes and Mane.

Absolutely Bully's, I suspected our new CEO may want to rescue Wolves from the downward spiral, but everything will have to be funded by the Club, as I doubt Fosun's requirement for Wolves to be self financing remains unchanged. As for Mane, the fact he's been priced to sell confirms this, imo.

As I've posted before, my concerns are that building a team to get promoted is one thing. But what happens then? If Fosun hasn't changed their ways, that's when we'll see it. In which case, it will be a case of 'ok lads back on your heads' and get ready for more struggles in the Prem, or worse.

BB, as usual, a sensible post grounded in reality.
I think posters need to smell the coffee, and realise that a few free transfers, ironically of players who are markedly better than the players currently at the club, are not "below" the club now.
Stability is required after several years of self-induced catastrophic collapse, and a few high quality (if old) pros will bring that in the short term. Without them, Wolves could easily be looking to rebuild from Div 1 next summer
I love the optimism of some, but it's going to be a long and painful summer trying to exit the various overpriced, over-paid, but not very good players that currently fill the squad and replace them with substantially (wages and amort) cheaper, but better players!
With the new SCR coming into effect this year, Wolves simply have to exit a number of them, albeit it will be at not insignificant losses that, ironically, are no longer going to be relevant with the demise of PSR.

It's that time of year again, where all the speculation abounds again. tfig, with all his sermons on finances, if you're that good, mate, why aren't you CEO of finances for Fosun? Who knows where the club would be with your expertise.

As for signings, maybe the targets are enjoying a break and pondering their decisions. Let's wait and see before knocking what is or what isn't being done.

The market is always slow outside the big 6 when a World Cup is on. It might be more stagnant at the moment, with extra players involved. 42 squads of 25 players each are a lot of footballers.

We will still need to sell to bring players in, though.

The only thing the owners could fund is infrastructure, otherwise the club have to be sustainable with the playing squad whether the owners want to or not.

I think the fact players are on holidays and at the World Cup might be affecting things. Also, the transfer plan will have changed now there is a manager change.

Personally, I don't think it matters, as I don't think the new manager has the experience or ability for the Championship.

I just have the feeling the cycle is going to continue, and we will have a new manager by New Year.

Give the guy a chance. There's not a ball been kicked in anger yet, and he's being written off. Look what Brighton and Bournemouth did with unknown managers.
