Not sure why people are choosing which game of the two against Liverpool they prefer to win, why not just win both?

Don't know who Liverpool will field on Friday but Wolves don't have the same squad depth so we will likely turnout pretty much the same team as last night.

They have not been in a good place for a while now evidenced by the complete media/pundit/vlog meltdown over this result. Wolves, however, have had a decent track record when it comes to beating 'top sides' in recent years so are we getting back to that. My issue is similar to Abbey's point concerning our ability to stay equally motivated against lower placed sides.

If RE can turn that around as our run in is mainly against those teams then I don't see how we can rule anything out just yet.

Re is turning into Mr Motivator. Sadly, almost certainly too late, but it bodes well for next season. I get texts from non-Wolves friends baffled about how well we are playing now. One friend hit the nail on the head when he saw us play before Christmas, and was shocked at how unfit we looked! No doubt about it, Re inherited a shambles, but he is turning it around.

And to think, we gave Vp a new contract.

Deep - Of all the horrific errors Jeff has made, (from Wolves football club's perspective at least), the decision to allow Vitor - who clearly wanted out and was obviously totally disinterested, thus not only lost the dressing room but sadly brought out the worst in some players who should hang their heads in shame at their lack of professionalism - to burn the first half of the season was probably the worst.

As can be seen now, although the squad is modest, shallow and unbalanced, it is nowhere near as bad as the team's current plight would indicate.

Sadly, however, unless a miracle occurs this squad, which would probably be a very strong group in the Championship, will be broken up and Wolves' entirely self-inflicted problems may continue apace.

Ps, I know it is all about opinions, but it is odd how many Wolves fans are unable to see just how good Gomes J and Andre are.

If you listen to most pundits and commentators, they rave about them. Last night, Gomes was once again the best player on the pitch.
Different from Neves and Moutinho in that they don't have the class, composure and control that those two gave you, but they do have more energy, legs and aggression.
Gomes J is also by far the best dribbler of the four, and on a better side his passing and vision would be more obvious to the casual viewers. On a better side he could also get forward more and might add goals to his repertoire.
Chelsea paid well over £200m for their pair, but if you switched the two around would Wolves be markedly strong or Chelsea weaker?
Sadly, as discussed previously, both will be sold for not much more than half of one of the Chelsea boys - bargain basement sales from the store where everything has a yellow sticker!

In fairness to Vp (can't believe I'm saying that:), but I think half the problem was the sheer madness, stupidity, and arrogance of swapping 6 first team players in one window. Those six players are only now (30 games in) starting to look up to speed with playing in the Prem, and that was always going to be the case. It was, in fact, so predictable that myself and other posters were pointing it out all summer. Look at Krejci; last night's performance was truly immense, the best we've seen of him. So essentially we've spent all season getting him (and others) up to speed right in time to sell them at a likely loss once relegated, meaning the next club will benefit from our stupidity. Well done to Re and the boys for last night; it was a joy to watch.

But equally well done to Jeff and Fosun, because what last night really proved is we have the quality here to have made a fight of it. We, and more to the point Re, have been robbed of that chance by mismanagement on the grandest of levels! The irony of Jeff saying the one thing learnt from Gon was that he should have pulled the trigger earlier, then waiting till too late to sack Vp and trying to replace him with Gon, honestly it's so stupid you genuinely couldn't make it up! Hard to know whether we should laugh or cry at this stage, to be honest! Same again Friday please, and maybe this season won't have been a complete car crash. COYW. ?

Yes, it is all about opinions, Future, and the test of all top class players is to produce a high level consistently, game in, game out. No good doing it 1 or 2 in 10. It needs to be 8 or 9 in 10.

That's where many of our better players fall flat at the moment, and that includes our two Brazilian midfielders. Joao has been at the top of his game for the last two matches. Let's hope it continues.

Absolutely agree Old Wulf, I've said before were they upping their games with potential moves in mind or because we were playing the 'big' teams? Will they perform away at Brentford, Burnley, etc?
Neves was Wolves through and through, Coady the same. If players are like minded, and I think Mosquiro is in that club, then they're playing for our/their club and not just a wage or progression, and that is a big difference.

Maybe Re has instilled that type of mentality, that they're a 'band of brothers', 'the pack' until the end of this season? If he has, then we'll see the consistency that Tfig talks about.

I think we should also give an honourable mention to Rui Pedro Silva in this discussion. Since he re-joined the club, the players have progressively looked fitter and more re-engaged.

That's a very good point there, Long, because Nuno rated him very highly. Also very noticeable that our newfound ability to defend pretty much started when he arrived. I wonder if Nuno regrets not taking him to West Ham. I don't think they've worked together since Silva had a try at management just after leaving us the first time. ?

Old and Abbey completely agree, both about it being a game of opinions and consistency.
However, on a losing side (and a side in total chaos, with several players not even trying), it is not always easy to see how well a basically defensive midfielder is playing.
John Wayne at the Alamo!
For example, when Wolves got destroyed by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Gomes was brilliant - the best player on the pitch, and he totally outplayed his direct opponent Caicedo (sp) - yet was castigated on here!
Maybe because the team was slaughtered, or because the stats - goals and assists - don't demonstrate his worth, the quality is overlooked.
Both Andre and Gomes have been guilty of overplaying/getting caught in possession, and have been criticised for it.

But if you take the ball and suddenly find no one else wants it, what are you supposed to do?
I'm sure I mentioned the incident where he received the ball deep in Wolves' half and was immediately challenged by Caicedo.
He beat him 3 or 4 times whilst desperately looking for a pass - to the traffic cone or Hwang - before eventually drawing a foul to relieve the pressure.
That was truly brilliant but had zero impact on the game as a whole!
As I said to another poster who was criticising Andre and Gomes, "If you don't like the Brazilians, I'm far from certain you will have much fun watching Munetsi and slow Traore in the Champ whilst they play in the Champions League"!

Again, I absolutely agree, Tfig. I thought the same regarding Saraba (?). When he was being criticised, I was actually meaning whether players in the team were upping effort in the big matches.
There is no doubt that Gomes and Andre could thrive on the bigger stage. Andre was tremendous the other night, and even getting his shot away at the end, even though it was lame, resulted in the winner.

Ditto Gomes' goal v Villa. Is that RE's coaching or newfound effort with the WC coming up?
Either way, we haven't, and will not, see the likes of the two guys again in a while.
