If the World Cup is a sign of how our beloved game is going, I don’t think I want to know. Half hour break for half time, all the razzmatazz, a singing frog and pig, Justin Bieber, two all-time greats driving a pensioner into “sing”, and the hydration breaks, which basically is what the USA wanted- four quarters.

Well said, halftime. Also, the weird announcers. All too much. The football is slightly secondary, and how players are meant to stop tightening up with a 25 minute halftime is a real challenge. It's all about squeezing in adverts on US television. Money is the driver for FIFA... not the game. I suspect for that reason the USA will get the competition more than most.

HalfTimePie, It's not a genuine World Cup when we know all the players, as we see them all the time playing in all the Euro competitions, and all the top countries have Premier League players. It's probably why England fail; they're always playing against their team mates, a bit like the old Home Internationals, which actually threw up better games, were more interesting, and we sometimes actually won the thing.
