One for the Banter page:

IF (and that's a huge if) Bruno Lage was to be sacked (recent rumour has been rubbishd) here are the candidates to replace Brendan Rogers at Leicester City:

*Rafa Benitez

*Sean Dyche

Not exactly inspiring, that said, no doubt we'd get somebody from the Jorge Mendez stable.

Debbie, I commented earlier that if Wolves do sack Lage at some point I have a feeling that his replacement will be high profile, not bargain basement.
We need someone who can inspire this team to play free flowing football with confidence, we have the players to do that, imo.

.but L. after 2+ seasons not much evidence pf players able to score in the squad. So are we able to avoid relegation with these players?

Rugeley, The sale of Jota started the rot, the injury to Jimenez carried it on with the only understudy being an 18/19 year old. Then our only other goal threat Neto gets a long term injury followed by our new flying winger Mosquera.
With hopes of a Jimenez return to form fading we buy a new striker who immediately joins the long term injured list. This leads to us being forced to sign a former great who himself may yet prove to be injury prone.
I'm not really sure why you would be so concerned, lol. ???

In theory yes we have a really good squad but as so many of us have pointed out the forwards currently available for selection just don't have the goals in them. I would like to see us shut up shop until Christmas and try to grind out 1-0 results and 0-0, 1-1 points and then see where we are when the window opens again. Granted with most of last years back 3 gone it could be a long hard autumn.

Deb's et Al
As I've said in a few previous posts here, I think time should be up for Bruno.
Great team we have, but he can't get a tune out if them.
I wouldn't fancy any of the Dyche, Alardice, Benetez bunch you list.
I'd hope they would go for Loputegui (who they were interested in before) or at least someone of that profile.
The problem (though if course we have many) is that Fisun have spent the money and it's supposedly Bruno' team.
It would be far from easy for a new manager to transform what we have to top 6 this season, but you have to start somewhere.and I don't think Bruno, even with the time he begs for, will do anything different. He's lost

So, when we beat Southampton we were going to be OK but since then we have played 1 game against Man City which admittedly we were poor in and suddenly its all doom and gloom. Even more ridiculous is the blaming of Lage for issues that occurred under Nunos management like the Neto and Jimenez injuries. We're either with the manager or not. I'm 100% with him. After the international break, Costa and Jimenez will be fit and B Traore will be settled. If going into the World Cup, then yes, look to change the leadership team but let's not over react to a loss to possibly the best team in Europe.

Pretty spot on Long, the only thing I would add is, the change at the back is a gamble that may not pay off and have unintended consequences.

It's correct the rot set in with the sale of Jota, and continued with Docherty. Then we have Everton one of our prized assets in Coady, he gave our team a voice and leadership a really top class skipper. I bet Everton can't believe their luck. Neves is a top player but never a captain, may be it should be Kilman but not really vocal enough.

Well my thoughts make me a loser.

I believe the last 2 years shi has kept our boat afloat not in the eyes of many but odds suggest I have been thinking wrong all along.
I always think with the pandemic and ffp restrictions plus our key players injuries our behind the scenes team kept us from financel disaster.
I must be wrong as so many post shi is inept and useless.
Sellars to blame when all I see is him bringing our youth and u23s through I must be wrong on that aswell.
Our players in the 2 years previously have missed clear cut chances chose wrong options etc.
Traore the main culprit but not just him I'm wrong on that too.

If majority of posters are posting opposite to how I see it as clear as day then there must be something wrong in my head.
I enjoyed Saturday morning that's the only bit I am winner everything else I'm a loser.
Will be up for the west ham away game with high hope like any game.

Phil if the majority of people were right thinking we wouldn’t be destroying our planet for financial gain. Don’t class yourself as a loser based on what others think, the majority of people are clueless on most things IMO but maybe that makes me a loser too.

Forget Benitez and Dyche. The formation and squad do not fit their methods thank god. Lage deserves till Xmas then see where we are. Pochettino is the ultimate top name.

Phil mate, I'm with you all the way. Some people will only go looking for the negatives and will overlook the positives. There is an argument that Coady should have remained but if I'm totally honest with myself, Collins is the better defender. We played 55 minutes against arguably the strongest club side with 10 men and had already given them a 2 goal headstart.

As attacking as Neto, Podence and Guedes are, they are not out and out strikers. Neither is Jimenez. This is why the signing of firstly Sasa and now Diego Costa will me monumental for us. Costa will rough up the CB's, give them a torrid time and drag them out of position with his runs which in turn will allow the likes of Jimenez, Neto, Podence to exploit the spaces.

Let's not give up of the manager just yet.

Phil, I suspect Jeff Shi is top class on the accounting side. What I suspect is of concern is how far his influence extends into the playing and scouting side of the club. We've lost that many key staff since promotion Dalrymple, Thelwell and the head of fitness that suggests to me something may not be right behind the scenes.

Of course it could be that the staff who've left have just been made offers that can't be refused or moved to be nearer to family/friends or some other reason.

However since Thelwell and Dalrymple have left the club has been put under consistent top flight pressure and has gone from being a club on the up with a top class team at the top to one with doubts.

Its in some ways similar to what happened with Morgan, Moxey and McCarthy, a top team at Championship level that gained promotion stabilised and then started to lose direction when resources couldn't be found for the expensive players needed to take us to the next level who were reluctant to sign for us anyway.

Jeff Shi reminds me of Jez Moxey in this instance. He seems to be getting a similar type of criticism. It may or may not be justified. Most of us with no inside knowledge don't really know.

Great posts Jas and Arddunby.

Jas thnks and makes sense your comments.

Arddunby I should not of said I'm a loser.

We all lost out Saturday because we lost our match.
It's fair to say to have suspicions somethings not right behind the scenes but when it's hatred and scorn towards our club I do not like.
It's at the worst after we lose a game.

It's not hatred Phil just people giving the opinions and comments on the situation as they see it. Actually, none of which matters in practice, my concern is for how Fosun may see it given Lag's stats since April. However, they have backed him to make the changes and it looks like they will give him a chance to make it work.
The excitement over Costa is still there with many preying that he will stay fit and make an impact, that must be everyone's plan A.

Roger Roger longmynd.

I get and have taken heed that all posters love and want the best for our club of which makes it more frustrating for me to read people's anguish and real resentment in their opinions of the running of our club.
Not a happy ship and hasn't been for fair while now.
Hopefully that will change and tge site and our team start singing off the same hymn sheet.

Phil, the ones who bleat and demand heads are not the majority. They just sound like it because they make a lot of noise and lash out when things go wrong. Ever heard of the silent majority, those who are steadfast through good and bad, being supportive where they can, especially when the luck runs thin. They usually are clear headed enough to make reasonable judgements even when results are against us and problems pile up.

Apologies if I have ruffled feathers,
I believe in wolves.
I believe its hard to run a premier league football club.
I believe its hard to outwit opponents and get results.
I believe its hard to recruit the right players.
We are still remaining in the premier league its early days and plenty time for our team to click.
As Jas posts with Costa in we will be a different team.
Our defenders when under pressure have no forward outlet to hold the ball up another way we can be better with Costa.
There is tge January transfer window if signings are required to make us better.
The premier league is not easy for any team.
We want to be challenging European places our players who are earning a very tidy sum have to start delivering.
The frustration lies in the players who have cost us points over last 2 3 years.
There nothing the board or club can do once players are over that white line.

Lol one day I'll be calm and placid lol it will be when I'm retired on my yacht down the cut in wednesfield lol.

Unfortunately Phil, not sure Costa will be any benefit until Lage realises Neto can't play on the right wing. Our best football was when Neto played left and Traore played right side. Has Lage not watched any old tapes ?. Fingers crossed he gets team selection right for West Ham.

I'm no negativity merchant. I will always back my club and I think Lage needs to be given the time he asks for. However, that doesn't mean I can't question what's going on. To my mind, if you are going 4 at the back then you have to have full backs who can defend - great if they if they know how to push forward too - but surely defending is the priority. Then there is the striker issue. I accept we lost Sasa and this was bad luck. But we seem to have had uncannily bad luck with injuries recently.especially his type of injury! Is there something going on there? And, regardless of what happened with Sasa, I'm flabbergasted that we were reduced to bringing in forward options so late in the day. Finally, there is the squad depth. It's one step forward and then two steps back in this department - we need a strong and reliable bench. All things considered; I think we have owners who want the best for the club (albeit to create a financial asset) and who are willing to invest. However, they are badly advised and do not understand the importance of the structure behind the scenes. They are too reliant on Mendez and his influence, and do not fully comprehend how older established players (with the exception of Jao tbf) can be every bit as important as those who will eventually turn a profit. They need to learn these lessons if they are to create a strong progressive squad which can climb (gradually) to the heights they initially envisaged.

If you look at the goals wev scored.2miss hit shots from podence who if he caught them properly would probly hav missed and a long range effoert from neves.and not really created anything else much.with the supposed attacking fkair we have and the style we play we should be banging hoals.in.yet bruno fails to make any significant changes like playing A traore upfront and dropping motinhio for traore or ronan.but still plays guedes who seems a pointless buy2me.and ait nouri over semedo.ridiculous.

Phil, I admire your devotion and loyalty to this club of ours. I think most negative posters on here, of which I am classed as one do in unison tend to look in retrospective analysis, the pointers as to why things go wrong. It is only 3 seasons since we were competing to the quarter final stages in Europe-one season earlier an FA Cup semi-final-which to all tense and purposes should have resulted in a Final. Jota and Doherty leaving, Jimenez career injury-and for me career ending as a potent footballer, an increasing and poor record where fitness and injuries are concerned, the suppression of funds for Nuno, resulting in his demise, the appointment of a cheap and lesser gifted option as his replacement, poor recruitment and poor administration. They all add up and it is somewhat criminal that these factors have once again put us backwards in our thinking and ambition
