Not my choice, but I don’t think Cooper is as stupid as it sounds. Suspect he’s got the potential to be a really good manager. I reckon the owners at Forest have more money than sense and have gone signing crazy. We know he wanted MGW, but I wonder how many of the others Cooper actually wanted?
The main thing for me though, is that anyone “unexpected” would be a refreshing appointment, because my fear is that Wolves’ managerial shortlist will bevarrived at through the following, detailed criteria:

1) Is his agent Mendes or is he at least in Mendes sphere of influence?
2) Does he have experience in one of the Iberian leagues?

Sorry, but I’m just becoming deeply disillusioned by the way we are being run. Fosun are not necessarily the issue, I believe they want us to succeed. But I think they are choosing the wrong executives and seeking too limited a counsel when it comes to taking our club forward. They need to widen their horizons if want the “project” to succeed.
That said, I desperately hope I’m wrong, and of course will support whomever we appoint.

I just wish we could look further away from Portugal. We keep going there and things are not working. We need a better mix and to diversify.

Wonder what Alan Curbishley is doing ;)

Look how many players we have from Portugal, that is the reason we are looking for a manager who has experience in Portugal. While I am not complaining about the quality of the players we have, I wonder that if you upset one you upset all of them, it might explain why Moutinho gets picked for every game and why we got rid of Coady, just a thought.

On past record it will be Lopetegui on Mendes books and being sacked by Sevilla today

Cooper would be a great choice IF we were staring down the barrel of relegation with 8 to play, looking at a summer firesale and an immediate return blooding the u21's in the process. Thankfully whoever comes in has 30 or so to turn it around, we're not detached from the main body and has a transfer window to act in.

Hi all, been reading posts for a while and thought I'd join. Currently living in Rochdale, not had a chance to get to the molineux for a fair few years, but still a true devotee. First game was v spurs at home in 1979 which I'm pretty sure we won 3-2. Though I didn't see a thing on the South bank aged 8, and as my older brother was "removed" for using "foul and abusive language" leaving me all alone, my mind was on other things! Funnily enough though, the number of (to my young mind) huge blokes around me who ruffled my hair and said "yow'll be alright cock we'll get yow 'ome" put me at ease and made me realise I was truly safe and amongst my own! As it happened my bro convinced the constabulary to let him back in for my sake and all ended well! COYW

Welcome onboard Mattybacc, for me it was 1966 inspired by Englands World Cup win at the age of 13 years. I can't remember who we played but we won and I was hooked, transferring to the North Bank a couple of years later. Back then the blokes around us wouldn't let anyone stand in front blocking our view. The North Bank was a lot of fun, warm and dry when packed but in reality possibly another Bradford fire waiting to happen due to it's wooden floor.

I remember that wooden floor well, surprised that it didn't fall through when the 'stamping' started. My favourite place to be.

Welcome Matty. My first game at age of 7 was a 3-1 loss to Arsenal in the 68/69 season.
ps Do you know Owd Betts or the Egerton Arms- my wife comes from near Burnley and sometimes, before we got married and moved south, when I was visiting in the early 80s we would drive up that way for a drink or (if flush) a meal at the Egerton Arms.

My brain is too addled to remember if I’m honest, but wasn’t Doherty sold at a time when Nuno was toying with moving to a back 4 to push us on? Either way, if JLo is considering him, perhaps he’s thinking of an alternative formation to the 4-4-2 in certain matches/situations.

Yes, thank you for everything Ruben, especially the memories! I believe that Al Hilal are also after Bernardo Silva. Is this basically all a Newcastle ruse to avoid paying over inflated fees and get around FFP?

Ramsay? Can't see it. Doesn't fit our profile at all. Just another example of lazy journalism surely.

Given the way the club is being run, anything by Simple Minds would do.

I think the 3pm on a Saturday kick-off came about when employment laws changed in 1850 and workers had to be let go by 2pm on a Saturday (or something like that). The idea being that it would give the masses something to do, and the match would be over while it was still just about light in the winter (given there were no floodlights, half time breaks were shorter, and injury time was a mere glint in the referee's eyes). But when you look at it, games used to be played at all sorts of odd times and on strange days, including Christmas Day. I don't think the 3pm on a Saturday thing is especially important historically. But as we've all got so used to it, I get why there is an idealistic desire to keep it free from TV footage simply to ensure fans aren't tempted to stay at home and watch it instead of turning up at the ground.

I'm with BullysBoy 11. I think the whole captain debate in football is overstated. It's not like cricket where the captain is essentially responsible for on field tactical management. What a football team needs is strong characters throughout the group to motivate, lift and inspire those around them, but any one of that number could be the nominal captain on the day.
That said, while I don't hold with the importance of a single designated captain, the fact that we are struggling to find even one player from our team to fit the bill, suggests we may have a problem!

I think you're on to something there Tim156. Part of the package of choosing Wolves for an up and coming player is that they know they will have autonomy in choosing where they move to. If we had a reputation for bargaining too hard when the time comes it may put them off.

I believe the health of a country's game is reflected in both the number of successful players and successful managers it produces. In Britain we are are getting to a point where a good number of quality players are coming off the production line. It's likely that more and more forward thinking young managers will eventually follow - but we are not there yet. When it comes to my beloved club though, I simply couldn't care less as long as they bring the club success - nationality doesn't come into it.
