E&S have just printed an article saying "Wolves are in talks with Al-Hilal over a deal which would see Ruben Neves move to Saudi Arabia for £47million" (Matt Maher is the author)

If true then clearly it is not about ambition but more about money.

18 Jun 2023 14:14:55
Good luck to Neves one of the best players to put on a gold shirt and the money if true will come in handy.

Spanish media reports the same

Been thinking about this one, I'll be glad if RN doesn't go to Barcelona with a swap deal for Ansu Fati, purely because AF doesn't want to come here. This way (if true) Wolves can get a decent amount of money for RN.

It’s all over sky to, thought he wanted champions league football

6.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 15:35:00
Same owners as Newcastle I think so won’t be surprised if he ends up there at some point

7.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 15:40:45
Yes, it'll be for the money but I'm just grateful that we won't be playing against him in the Prem. Good luck to him, a couple of years there, then come back to us and then move back to Porto to finish his career, sorted.

18 Jun 2023 15:42:24
Like all footballers it's all about money. Loyalty and ambition go out the door. In all my years as a fan Ruben is the best I have seen in our gold shirt. Problem is how the money is spent, if recent signings are anything to go by it could be a bumpy ride.

9.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:01:38
Well good luck to him and if the opportunity to maximise his earnings has come a few years early so be it.

10.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:08:51
Good luck to Ruben, but a what a waste of talent.

11.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:26:07
Offer been accepted Debs.

12.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:35:48
Perfect for me.
Decent price.
Not have to face him.
Invest wisely with the cash.

13.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:42:15
He's just gone down in my books. If he left because we couldn't match his ambition then fair enough but to move simply for the money when he is already a very rich man is another thing entirely. Just proves he doesn't actually want to play at the elite level anymore.

14.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:47:10
That's the problem Ray, it's like a golden shot, this may well be the last chance to get this correct. If recent utterances from the club are anything to go by we are looking at purchasing 3 to 6 players in the 8 to 15m range from this sale. Maybe things will start to move but I can't help but feel we will be held to ransom unless the deals have been agreed already and we were waiting for the Ruben sale to generate the cash. Somehow I doubt it.

15.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 16:56:39
Wolves in a no win situation, keep neves then leaves on a free end of next season or take the only concrete offer that has been offered for him, sorry to see him go but on the other hand did we miss him the 2 games he was banned, we won. both, take the cash invest wisely hopefully and move on,

16.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 17:01:27
A good deal all round in my book.
Thank you Ruben for your fantastic effort and commitment to our great club.

17.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 17:11:15
I reckon Wolves should insert a 1st option buy back clause into the sale!

{Ed002's Note - aThat would reduce the fee which is why only a couple of PL clubs take that approach on a regular basis.}

18.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 17:13:45
In many ways a brilliant deal, we get more cash than we would probably have got from a domestic club, we won't have to play against him and he secures his long term future. His ambitions don't worry me, he's a grown man, able to make his own decisions who are we to criticise.
Let used hope we invest wisely.

19.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 17:28:48
Well at least we'll use the money to improve the squad and Nunes will be free of the shackles that seem to hold him back when Neves is on the pitch.

20.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 17:39:20
That's a complete urban myth, Jas. Nunes had no shackles whatsoever with Neves also on the pitch. As if Neves made him pass so sloppily and to drift out of games.

21.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 18:10:22
Take the money and run
Mendes has ruined a legend

22.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 18:27:56
He is big enough to make his own decisions, been a star for Wolves. I hope it all works out for him.

23.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 18:37:52
In fairness to Neves I suspect we are pushing this deal FAR more than he is! He wants to go to Barcelona and if he wanted to could just wind his contract down and sign with them in Jan, but he knows then we wouldn't get any money for him. Don't get me wrong I realise that he wants to leave but we are FAR worse off if that's on a free. Peeps having a go at him need to realise that this is entirely on the club and YET another example of not managing our contracts properly! Good luck to him, sad to see him go and wish it was for a proper club but hey ho. Right let's get that £47m spent now! ?

24.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 18:57:59
They always want more. So would I, I guess.

25.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 19:09:00
If we can get 5 or 6 years out of him and make 30 million in profits ( not sure what kind of sell on clause is in his contract), why not.
He wants more money than Jeff will give him.

26.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 18:51:00
I haven't got a problem with him leaving. I hope we spend the money wisely. My issue is that he clearly said he wanted Champions League football then signs for a club in Saudi Arabia. He could easily just sign a new contract with us if he didn't really want to ply his trade in the European competitions.

27.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 19:01:08
Agreed to some extent Bully's but I suspect that we'd now find ourselves in the Championship if Neves had gone last summer and, let's not forget, it did seem fairly certain that he'd go then.

28.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 19:47:02
I have to agree with BB- it's the club pushing this one, firstly to avoid any problems with FFP, secondly to give JL a chance of bringing in new faces and ensuring he stays.

Tho part of me thinks the announcement is to force the hand of others clubs who may have an interest

29.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 20:41:50
Hope they have someone lined up to replace Ruben. No one there at the moment for to lace his boots . Nice to think Nunes could step up but not got the drive and work rate of Neves. When things are not going well be tends to drift out the game. It will need a good manager to change that mindset.

{Ed002's Note - They have lost out on one target already but have others in mind.}

30.) 18 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 21:26:39
I know what ya mean Jas and like you I am genuinely disspointed that he won't actually be bettering himself in real terms. Just not sure it's that simple any more, we couldn't afford to give him a new contract and still sign news players as we are already struggling with FFP. Also like others I wonder if this will be a short term move (1 season) before he returns to Newc (for half the price to help them with FFP no doubt)!

31.) 19 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 22:02:51
Al Hilal are same owners as Newcastle so it would not shock me if they loaned him to Newcastle that way they stay in line with FFP and only have to pay his wages :/ if it does happen the way I'm thinking then football will become very boring very quickly why owners want more than 1 club is beyond me.

32.) 19 Jun 2023
19 Jun 2023 05:23:53
Mendes should send Guedes with him.

33.) 19 Jun 2023
19 Jun 2023 07:12:14
That would reduce the overall price Atxabal.

34.) 19 Jun 2023
18 Jun 2023 21:35:30
Also just have to ask Ed who was the one they lost out on? More just to judge how they are thinking of spending the money ?

{Ed002's Note - Branco Van Den Boomen.}

35.) 19 Jun 2023
19 Jun 2023 14:59:20
He's taking one for the team. Maybe in a year, a new coach will be at Barcelona and it will make more sense for him to try to go there.
Meanwhile, he is getting Wolves out of a mess where his value was less because he wasn't able to find a team last summer.
He may be gone from Saudi in January or next summer. Who knows?

36.) 20 Jun 2023
20 Jun 2023 11:57:26
Would you go for a 50%+ drop in wages Handsome? Me neither. He'll take his medicine and review the situation near contact end.

37.) 20 Jun 2023
20 Jun 2023 19:57:46
Maybe he felt Barcelona wasn't offering him what he wanted so he parked is bus in Saudi Arabia until a better offer came around.
If I was already rich and would have to take a 50% pay cut and only make £100,000/week to make my dreams come true, I would consider it.
When you are backed into a corner, sometimes you have to think outside the box.
Barca are probably scratching their heads and wondering what happened.
