Ben Chilwell on loan rest of season with option to buy.

Waterloo v good shout!
Pluses - homegrown
- was a superb player both offensively and in defence.
- presumably would be either on a free or a nominal sum due to his insane contract and Chelsea's desire to lose him.
- would allow us to sell RAN, (I am assuming Fosun will require us to sell players again this year), without weakening the team as other player sales would.
Minuses - was a superb player but hasn't played regularly for a while now
- The aforementioned insane contract means he would probably be unwilling to come to Wolves on a rational contract - 70% pay cut? Great fear would be that we compensate him irrationally with all the negatives this brings
- Chelsea are far smarter in the market (there is probably no other club in the world that this statement applies to!) than us and would extract a substantial fee from us which would therefore stop us strengthening in other areas.
All in all whilst I think it would be a great move for us I just don't see it happening as we can't afford him on the irrational terms we would "want" to pay and he almost certainly would see us as below him.
{Ed001's Note - you forgot about two things with Chilwell, both connected. One is his lifestyle is very unprofessional, he trains poorly and parties hard, which leads to the second issue, which is injuries. He picks up a hell of a lot of injuries.}

Ed - 001
Tks - explains why despite being an exceptionally good footballer he doesn't play at Chelsea and no one wanted him last summer!
What a shame!
Guess as you say it is another, and in this case probably quite valid, reason why Wolves won't sign him.
I wonder if anyone is sufficiently desperate to take a chance on him and if he is smart enough to both turn his life around and commit - take a 70% pay cut for starters - to a new start?
{Ed001's Note - he has had numerous new managers give him a chance to turn it around and never done so. I just think some people love living it up too much to realise that they can do all the partying they want when their career is over.}

If we sold AIT Nouri, would we be desperate for a replacement?
Doherty is more than capable to play on the left side of defence as is Toti when he is fully fit.
We have Rodrigo and Forbs as the attacking options if required.
4.) 01 Jan 2025 18:07:06
If we sell RAN I'm not sure we would be desperate but we would be very foolish not to replace him.
Matt D will be 33 in a few days time and his best days are well behind him. These days I'm sceptical that he has the engine to get up and down as he used to - perhaps that is why he is now playing CB?
Toti is a great athlete but I'm far from convinced he has the skill/composure to play LWB besides he is - at the moment - the only left sided CB at the club.
Not seen enough of Forbs to be convinced we should be paying the £13.5m fee for him this summer let alone relying on him but maybe he might develop.
If we go down, (we won't be able to afford him), he probably would be a solid option but in the Prem I am sceptical. Rodrigo is also still a project albeit one I am more hopeful on.
Coming back to selling RAN, for me he is probably the one, of the handful of players we have that would raise a major fee, you can sell without hurting the team too badly.
I, as stated in the thread above, would love to have signed a fit and motivated Chilwell but it appears that is not an option so if and of course it is still if, we sell RAN I am not sure who I would want as a replacement, fortunately I am confident that Vitor will
Who would you sign if RAN left or are you saying you would be happy with the options you identified above? Finally who would you sell if we have to raise circa £40-50m this year?
5.) 01 Jan 2025 20:58:56
Ben Godfrey has been mentioned. Another who would be available on loan is Kieran Tierney.
6.) 01 Jan 2025 22:03:32
Both experienced pros who at their best would be excellent for Wolves - guess they wouldn't be available to Wolves if they were at their best.
Neither has played much of late though - injuries and unable to get into their respective sides.
Sadly I strongly suspect that there are no obvious answers and all the ones we hear about come with "issues".
I also suspect we are fishing in the same pond as every major club, (outside of the top dozen or so teams in Europe who can afford wages and fees beyond our imagination and this can fish wherever they like), so it will be incredibly hard to sign players we might want even if thy come with significant "baggage".
7.) 02 Jan 2025 10:22:10
Another option is Layvin Kurzawa who is a free agent.
Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord. There are plenty of options but we all know that CB has to be the priority.

Agreed

A new year, a new era.Think we have landed a gem with new manager, needs backing by board.Keep Cunha, 2 centre backs required and why not look at Ben Chilwell on loan from Chelsea.
Fancy FA cup this year.

Players still clearly behind manager.Working hard for him.Keep the faith, its a marathon not a sprint.
29 Aug 2025 16:36:08
Strand Larson is a top pro with a great attitude. He knows if he goes to Newcastle he would be mainly on the bench, I don't see him pushing for a transfer as he knows he will if he works hard this season and keeps banging in goals get a move to champs league team in summer.Alot of rubbish spouted over the whole Isak thing driven by the media.i would love it if Liverpool don't bother in the end.Transfer window needs to close before season starts, unfair to smaller clubs as more power to the big six.
15 Aug 2025 11:29:51
New signing negatives are poor passi g stats, very middle of road in other departments but versatile apparently.
10 Aug 2025 10:13:52
Friendlies mean nothing in terms of results, they are there for experiments and getting players match fit.Players are not going to be fully switched on and also don't want to get a silly injury so no need for all this doom and gloom. Not the best pre season for transfers as usual but expect a couple or 3 signi gs before window shuts.Lets see how we do v Man City but think we will have 5 points after opening 3 games.
08 Aug 2025 15:54:31
Think I am going to scream.this non transfer activity is bonkers.Unfair from Foson, lack of respect to manager, players and fans.
14 Sep 2025 08:43:38
Absolutely ridiculous comment.Slag off the board, not the manager.Doing a good job with the players he has been left with.Good performance v Newcastle yesterday, and Vitor clearly still trying to find his best starting 11.Other than Spurs next 5 fixtures all wins.
09 Sep 2025 21:14:33
Wolves to beat Newcastle 3 nil
03 Sep 2025 07:11:43
I think there isn't a choice, we are going down.Cannot rely on the 3 promoted clubs getting relegated.Sunderland and Leeds look better than Wolves at moment.
29 Aug 2025 16:39:35
Mainnoo too small.Vitor wants 6 foot plus players
29 Aug 2025 16:37:52
Just seen Nathan in Co Op in Tettenhall.
