Madman as you said re Guessand the pull of European football is strong. It is a shame therefore that Wolves don't have it anymore - just that one foray under Nuno before Jeff took charge.
But if we accept - quite reasonably - that Wolves can't compete with the big 6 but then add the 4 that can offer European football, (Palace, Forest, Villa and Newcastle), plus the ones that seemingly offer far higher wages (West Ham and Everton) and the ones that are just far more proactive in the market (the 3 B's Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford) then, as seems to be the case, in the Prem the club is competing for players with the 3 that come and up maybe Fulham, (although west London is a big thing), so yes just the 3 that come up?
Compare this to where Wolves were before Jeff took over in Seville. Look for example how Wolves were regarded versus Villa, (mind the gap), etc etc etc.
PS Neil the season starts on Friday - just over 48 hours away and since Wolves have added, net, 1 player over the last few weeks, (and in my book are still 8 short of a full squad), I think its fair to say the season will start - again - with Wolves woefully short in both the first 11 and certainly the squad.
Not so worried by the City game but if Bournemouth, Everton and Leeds all in the first 6 games, don't produce healthy returns - 5 min but hopefully 7 points - the writing will be on the wall.

Yes yes TFIOG my point was more were have been connected to good players and the deal hasn't quite come off with Pubill, Sanchez and Abline so far.
But Guessand seems like the club didn't waste time on this deal, the player wasn't interested so we moved on.
Interestingly Sanchez and Abline haven't jumped to other clubs yet.
Aklioche is still at Monaco
As I've said there are a plethora of different players that could be signed we need 4-6 players (if Hwang and Silva go).
As widely discussed we need a RWB, FW and CM urgently.
Keep the faith-Out of darkness cometh light.

Not a "Pro" Fosun post but I think the, "gerrem out" comments don't help anyone, as someone who helped the club during the Bhatti Bros era I'll just say be careful what you wish for, I'm glad we still have a club to support and one that can spend more than we did in the M&M era, you can not like the owners as much as you like but until someone with the money can "gerrem out" you're stuck with them so support the boss and players, god knows they need support

Less than a week till the season starts and the team is weaker than last season. Were are the PLAYERS SHI?

What is going on? It took us a week to sell our two best players for a combined £95M plus and a then host of others from the squad and the periphery of the club subsequently, raising more than enough to balance the books and open the door for yet another rebuild, aka this year's fire sale.

We are told that Wolves are 'confident' of another 3 maybe even 4 incomings with VP himself allegedly expressing similar views. We been telling ourselves (me included) that there's plenty of time to get players in. However, the new season is just 6 days away and those signings haven't occurred despite everyone and his dog being 'linked'. We have, reputedly, the best football agent in the World acting on our behalf, but still nothing.

6 days to sign 3-4 new players, get them settled in and for VP to organise things on the pitch if we are to stand any chance of starting the season with positivity and promise.

We are also told by some that only the top 6 teams can attract decent players and everyone else are scratching around for signings. We didn't seem to have a problem attracting them when our owners showed signs of ambition so is that the real problem, the elephant in the room or is it more £ related?

We can tell ourselves that pre season results are meaningless (me included) as these games are just to try things, assess players and improve fitness, but surely the development of a winning mentality is of equal importance. Why do we seem happy to sacrifice valuable early season points because the now annual rebuild, aka fire sale is incomplete?

Btw, I insist on calling the now annual rebuild a fire sale because that's what it actually is as it's done for financial, not football reasons. £100M's spent to finish up in this situation every year, really? Please don't bother calling me a pessimist or negative because I'm raising this, because trust me, I'd much rather be raving about beating top sides home and away.

I very much share your frustration Long, I really thought this summer would be different, players in and ready for the new season well in advance. Not looking forward to the City game at all, great way to feel about the new season, hope I am wrong but not at all confident, could be embarrassing judging our pre season. I don’t see how anyone can be optimistic at this stage, even if, and it seems very unlikely, we do make more signings when will they be ready, shambles.

3.) 11 Aug 2025 09:50:29
Hi Long, panic not, maybe we won't have all the players that were want by the time of our first match, but still 3 weeks left on the transfer window, so time yet.

4.) 11 Aug 2025 10:04:19
Can't disagree with any comments really. It's a shambles, which stems from the top. I can fully understand why VP is relaxed as he's got absolutely nothing to lose from this situation. He's well travelled so prepared to move and manage anywhere in the world. He's got 'credit in the bank' with how he saved us from certain relegation so could almost certainly get another job in the PL as and when one comes up. I really just cannot understand what is going on with Shi and Fosun. Have they learnt nothing!
As mentioned there are worse owners out there, but I'm beginning to think that these guys should just sell up now and go back into their 'gaming venture' as they don't seem to have much idea in the real world.

5.) 11 Aug 2025 10:44:27
The real worry for me to be honest is why are players opting not to come to us? Aline being the latest to say no.
Is it the wages, type of contract or and this I think could be it, the apparent lack of ambition for the club. Mr.Shi might like to comment on that aspect.
We're going to be bargain basement buying in desperation, will have no new found, well ok Arias gomes Andre accepted, to sell for gain. After that, Fosun have failed themselves and the club.

6.) 11 Aug 2025 10:56:31
I may be missing something but I believe the clubs losses over the last 3 years are £128mil, doesn't that restrict us to selling our most valuable assets to allow reinvestment?

A question for the more financially savvy than me;
Currently our turnover and operational costs are roughly even at £180mil approx, and our yearly player amortisation losses are £64mil approx, how do we regenerate that loss? asset sale, increase turnover, reduce costs? Which options are viable?

7.) 11 Aug 2025 10:57:55
Hi Rince 6 weeks ago we were saying plenty of time before the season starts but now it's just 6 days. I know there's still 3 weeks of the window but if we do still need 3-4 players in 'key' positions does that mean we can afford to right off the points from the first 3 weeks of the season? Is that our level of ambition? 'don't worry we'll claw back survival after Xmas', again.

I totally agree with Blackfords comments but I am convinced that Fosuns plan is designed to keep us down in the bottom half of the table as a feeder club and no more. What is the point of that as they surely can't even be making money out of it beyond keeping the doors open? Why bother?

8.) 11 Aug 2025 11:50:32
Yes longmind, see my point above.
Players declining the chance to play in the prem to join us, no chance of Europe, play not to lose.
Fosun will run out of money making options and will have failed. Please take note Mr.Shi.

9.) 11 Aug 2025 12:22:26
It is good to see one or two feeling optimistic about the coming season. I really, really hope they will not feel badly let down by Fosun in the coming weeks.

10.) 11 Aug 2025 12:36:12
There are ways Molineuxaway without selling off your best players, at least so frequently, if you are prepared to invest the money, the time and the energy on the other aspects of the business beyond just player sales. Ground expansion, merchandising, sponsorships, even ground naming rights and of course success on the pitch. They all work together if driven towards a common goal.

We know that isn't going to happen under Fosun now as any senior management with any of those qualities or desires have long since gone, leaving us basically with just a caretaker who himself has confessed that football is not even his main interest. Hardly, the birthplace of ambition is it?

Anyone who thinks Fosun can't afford to do this are mistaken as we have multi billionaire owners, what's lacking is a desire to do it underpinned by a desire not to pay for it. We can't develop the ground the paybacks are too long, for who? There are plenty of clubs in both the Premier League and below doing just that regardless, it's called investment and actually investment that doesn't come under PSR unless the owner dumps it on the club as a debt of course. How can we pay £30M plus for an 18 year old but not rebuild a stand, answer because you can't sell the stand on in a couple of years for a profit. That's the thinking that's got us painted into this corner.

This is why I've previously posed the question not are Fosun a good or bad owner but are they the right kind of owner for this type of business? They're not a bad owner, imo, just football illiterate and no longer seem committed to grow the club. I'm not trying to spend other peoples hard earned or suggesting recklessness in the boardroom but sometimes you just have to roll the dice, just a bit.

11.) 11 Aug 2025 18:54:09
Thanks for the very detailed reply LongmyndWolf. I wonder whether another limitation and reason for selling the best players is the concerning lack of youngsters to make it through from the academy? It's supposedly amongst the best in the country and category one and I can only really think of Morgan gibbs-white as an example of 'making it' or financially paying off. Lots of the top clubs seem to be a production line for young talent and sales generate 100% profit, they also often include add on payments and buy back clauses.
I guess it's a long process to change the club from ticking over to competing again.
