E&S reporting H Bueno going on Loan to Feyornord (sorry about the spelling). I think Bueno is great, but this must mean that we're keeping RAN for at least another season.

BlackfordsWolf1.

1.) 10 Aug 2024 07:40:42
I agree BW1 but am more concerned about this development than the sale of Neto (which we all sensed was happening in this window).
Now we have lost for 2024/25, Neto, Kilman and Bueno. They are all left-footed and all possess excellent left-footed pass and cross skills.
If RAN gets injured (currently) he will be covered by a right-footer. It feels to me that we need to add a left-sided player with a sweet left-foot to restore some balance to the squad.

2.) 10 Aug 2024 09:58:33
Who is now the back up LB?
Toti? Surely not Doherty?
Transfer window is still open but after losing 2 players yesterday we now have lots to do.
We have bought 1 player who should, (R. Gomes although potentially a major downgrade on Neto?), start but lost 2.
When it comes to depth as well we have sold 3 first team squad members and bought 3, (Doyle was alrady here).
It all looked so good on Thursday just a new starting CB and maybe if greedy a back up CB and GK.
Now you have to add a back up LB and potentially a starting WF?
When ever we start to build a good team we make a major error and cut our own legs off!
Just imagine if we hadn't paid to get rid of Jota, (the swap for Fabio and Hoever costs us millions pa!).
Jota, Cunha, Neto
Mario, Gomes
RAN, Toti, Dawson Yerson (or Kilman) Semedo
Sa
Is not a Europa side but a Champions league one!
Of course if the club was run properly from a finanical point fo view ( or we hadnt bought Guedes!) we could still have Neves as well!
If and but the two greatest players to play the game.
But self inflicted.
Only two/three players different from what we can still put out this year but our best 2 and both at the sharp end where the game is won and lost!

3.) 10 Aug 2024 11:52:26
All valid points TFIOG but maybe things might look a little different after 2 or 3 purchases in the next few weeks? I just hope the replacements aren’t all youngsters and we fall into the Southampton trap of 2 years ago.
Clearly the powers that be have looked at the Brighton model and thought ‘let's get a bit of that’. The difference for me is that I suspect we have gentlemen’s agreements to let certain players leave in certain windows and the buying clubs benefit from having the likes of Mendes advertising the fact rather than have our players being head-hunted at highest prices.
My feeling is that RAN and J Gomes will be offered out next summer and they’ll be aware of the fact and push for it eventually. Looking at the prices we are consistently receiving for some very good players, you have to worry that we’re a bit lacking in financial and commercial acumen.
Also has GON been rewarded with a pay rise and contract extension for a good 12 months’ work or because he is willing to work happily under the constraints of consistently losing his finest tools?

4.) 11 Aug 2024 13:59:21
NES - great to see you posting again. Don't disagree with anything you say, certainly with respect to not buying exclusively unproven kids from overseas - for every Neto there is a Fabio.
But will we buy any proven experieinced Prem players? I very much doubt it nor probably can we afford to do so, (often), as other clubs tend not to sell cheaply.
However if Toney is really available for £30m (?) we should have bought him yesterday!
With Cunha injured, (how long for?), I don't see where the goals come from - fear Hwang was a never to be repeated purple patch, Larsen looks well off the pace and none of the others, Guedes, Sarabia, Fabio, Sasa, Podence or Gomes R have a track record of scoring regularly in the Prem.
And at the back if we think Doherty, (until Semedo returns at least), Yerson and Toti are 3 of a Prem back 4 we are deluuded. (Surely given our weakness at CB we have to play 5 at the back and pray that Dawson recovers - or perhaps buy a new CB of his ilk!)
We are seemingly expecting Yerson and Gomes R to do a lot of heavy lifting this season
With 5 days to go to the start of the season it is v hard not to acknowledge that the squad that finished 14th last year is now no deeper but a lot weaker! Note as well that we only finished that high as Neto, (and to some extent Dawson), carried the team for a few months - see last year's results for the veracity of that statement.
I, unlike the bookies and many other "experts", don't actually think we are likely to down as we still have a number of high quality players albeit the squad is too small and dreadfully unbalanced - shock horror!
But we have hugely increased that risk and the £50m "excess" cash that we now have following the sale of Neto is lost in a few weeks in the Championship.
I hope we aren't penny wise pound foolish!

5.) 11 Aug 2024 15:57:29
In 5 seasons Neto made 111 appearances for us 51 of those came in the last 3 seasons, I can see the clubs thinking but would have rather left the sale until January to see if Gomes establishes himself first.

6.) 18 Aug 2024 11:57:34
Agree with many points above, running cost of club is huge, and yes we have the money from prem league
But it doesn’t cover it all and buying younger gifted talent before the rest, and developing them to full potential and making sales in profit is a huge part of the gamble. The issue with these players is when it doesn’t click and there value actually goes down and the huge wages they on whilst with have them drifting the wilderness is one of the biggest black holes in our finances. Ref (Fabio Silva) we lost a fortune when you take is wages into account and that’s just one player.

You want to make a positive change and impact for future and build a module to sustainably compete on top half of the league, then the ground needs to be redeveloped to a larger capacity and the football attractive. That is the foundation on which success and profitability can be built.

We have the fan base and future generations will be attracted to the club with a more attractive football leading to fans for life.

Seems to have gone very quiet regarding Fabio. Plenty of rumours surrounding Podence, Guedes, RAN, Neto, Hodge, Cundle, H Bueno, but nothing on Silva. Very strange.

BlackfordsWolf1.

1.) 06 Aug 2024 06:59:09
Silva has so far cost Wolves circa £50m, including wages.
Shi extended his contract until 2026, so he can sit and collect another £8million as it stands.
This was a signing the CEO saw as his personal "project".

2.) 06 Aug 2024 08:20:20
Depends on which reports you believe.

Some say he's on £80k a week, others say £42k a week. The truth is, unless we see his wage slip or bank balance, we just don't know.

3.) 06 Aug 2024 09:28:53
I was thinking much the same thing Wandering.

4.) 07 Aug 2024 12:08:23
Where have you read that Rugeley, that Fabio was Jeff's personal project?!

5.) 07 Aug 2024 13:54:18
He said it in an interview once I think bullysboy, said something like it was his call to sign Fabio. Luckily he leaves those sorts of decisions to someone else now.

6.) 07 Aug 2024 16:15:07
Bully, when Silva first went out on loan, the E&S reported Silva saying that our CEO was very close to him, phoning him on a regular basis to see how he was feeling.
Now, you will have to look back to find that article, but it is definitely there!

7.) 07 Aug 2024 16:17:35
Yes, Goatmark, we have moved on, thank goodness. Hobbs and O'Neil doing a fine job on the footballing front.

8.) 07 Aug 2024 16:48:34
As you'll read on the Banter page I think the decision to sign Fabio was FAR more likely to be driven by Nuno and his best mate Mendes (who made a small fortune on it)!
Calling a young lad who's living in a different country to their home to ensure their well being is not something to berate someone for is it?!
I seriously doubt Jeff had even heard of Fabio until Nuno and Méndes suggested it?! As I've always said Jeff's biggest flaw was putting too much trust in Mendes!

9.) 07 Aug 2024 18:38:09
I know I am one of a small minority, but Fabio is still a Wolves asset. We have just one striker recently signed, who by the way has not found the net in pre season. So unless we are to sign a back up then Fabio can still be useful. The alternative is spend money we haven't got and gamb!e all over again.

10.) 07 Aug 2024 18:54:37
Oh Bully.

11.) 07 Aug 2024 19:54:57
Oh Rugeley! Fun game this! ?

12.) 07 Aug 2024 20:06:18
"It does not have to be to do with the cost of the player. It is about what you see in them and what you see a little bit ahead of them."

Nunos own words Rugeley the season we signed Fabio. Now I know that this is tricky for you cause it doesn't fit your 'Everythings Jeffs fault' rhetoric but this is a lad that was at Porto (Nunos old club) and was represented by Méndes. But I'm sure your right I'm sure it was all Jeffs suggestion! Priceless ??

13.) 08 Aug 2024 06:48:58
Relax, Bully, relax. The footballing side of the Club is now in good hands.

14.) 08 Aug 2024 08:11:50
Not sure I've seen the words asset and Fabio in the same sentence before Ray!Couldn't even hack it with Ranges remember and was criticised from all quarters for his diving and cheating antics.

15.) 08 Aug 2024 08:33:48
Perfectly relaxed fella just bored of reading stuff that's been entirely made up to suit a witch hunt/agenda is all ??

16.) 08 Aug 2024 16:08:14
Although Larsen hasn’t scored in pre season he has set up three goals and looked good. Holds the ball up well and is strong and works hard.

Stopped watching after the 3rd goal went in. Well the new manager bounce has certainly gone. Can't pass, can't defend, can't hold the ball up. Can't see us winning another game TBH.

BlackfordsWolf1.

19 Jan 2025 18:27:07
Results not too bad for us this weekend especially the battering of Ipswich. Shame to rely on others, but needs must I guess.
Let's hope we can get something tomorrow at Chelsea. Going for a boring 1-1 but I'd be satisfied with a point.

BlackfordsWolf1.

1.) 19 Jan 2025 19:26:30
I'd take that right now Blackfords as it may well be a case of slowly chipping away while others falter.

Still Chelsea will be missing a few so who knows?

2.) 19 Jan 2025 20:29:12
A point would be welcome longynd but I'm worried something maybe bubbling under the radar re Cunha. It's reported arsenal and man u are still pursuing him and he's yet to put pen to paper on a new contract despite his verbal agreement, and he's 'suffering with the flu'. We need him more than ever tomorrow. I hope he's well enough to play!

3.) 19 Jan 2025 22:58:58
Manu going benfica instead of us
If true. What are we playing at

4.) 19 Jan 2025 23:38:35
Why is it Wolves fault? A fee had been agreed and the player had agreed terms, so this isn't on Wolves it's on that snake of a player.

5.) 20 Jan 2025 05:37:25
Players don't want to lose cred by being associated with a relegation these days I reckon. They want the cash but don't want to do their job.
Then there's wolves, cold wet England, or Benifica, job club in sunny homeland Portugul. Lol, he's a waste of time and while we've been spending time on him we've possibly missed out on other targets.

6.) 20 Jan 2025 07:06:47
Maybe we've had a lucky miss. If you're not up for the fight at his age in supposedly the best league in the world then good riddance. We don't need characters like that when we're in a relegation fight. The downside of course is that we're now 2/3rds in on the transfer window with only a single signing.

7.) 20 Jan 2025 08:15:40
Obviously we didn't offer him the attractive contract.
So yes we're at fault. Or the hierarchy are.

8.) 20 Jan 2025 08:19:53
If he's decided to join the club he supports ahead of us, then fair play and good luck to him.

We need to move on and target players who want to be here.

9.) 20 Jan 2025 08:24:01
Couldn't agree more blackfords.

10.) 20 Jan 2025 09:04:42
Wolves knew last week that beneficial were interested so they should have pulled out cus it was obvious to me he's choosing them.but something needs to happen quickly now and imo we need a ch.mf.& a striker to stand any chance. Gutted over not getting silva but not surprised in the slightest.

11.) 20 Jan 2025 10:18:07
Pretty much guaranteed european football at Benfica!

12.) 20 Jan 2025 18:44:30
It is so disappointing t see our Pl club lose out to clubs from lower leagues.
If you believe someone can do a jobfor you then make an offer that cannot be refused
Manu should have been offered 15 mil to be on the next flight last week.
That 3 mill could keep us in the Premier. Someone should tellMr Hobs and Co thatthe best deal is never the cheapest. Happens all the time . Do not how to close a sale

Need to keep hold of the ball better. Still in it though.

31 Dec 2024 09:06:28
Forgive me as I know this is a Wolves site, but just wondered if Maguire thought Newcastle had nothing to offer also.??

BlackfordsWolf1.

1.) 31 Dec 2024 10:11:47
2 game ban and £80k fine for Cunha

2.) 31 Dec 2024 10:19:43
Classic BlackfordsWolf1 ???

3.) 31 Dec 2024 10:37:43
2 match suspension for Cunha then, phew.

4.) 31 Dec 2024 10:41:36
Nice one. It really looked that way ?. Anyway lucky Cunha. Two games.

5.) 01 Jan 2025 11:37:43
Did Matt Doherty find the guys glasses?

17 Dec 2024 19:50:33
Hi Guys,
For those of you that 'Fosun bash' take a look at the article in Give Me Sport titled The best and worst owners in the PL rated 1-20. I realise it's probably a journalist opinion, but we came 10th. Article written 9th Dec 2024.

BlackfordsWolf1.

1.) 17 Dec 2024 21:59:56
As you say Blackfords someones opinion, the last similar thing I saw put us circa 15th. As for Fosun bashing all policy and strategic decisions come from the top, which is why we are where we are.

2.) 17 Dec 2024 22:00:23
I personally think Fosun have been led astray by Shi regarding Wolves, Shi is the main issue.

3.) 17 Dec 2024 23:05:22
Not convinced by that article Black. They have Spurs in 15th and Man City in 1st. So a well run, self maintaining club which have recently built one of the best stadiums in the world and all without cheating are not even in sight of a club run by oil barons that have CLEARLY cheated but just haven't been caught yet?! Oh and Newcastles war criminal owners also in 7th, seems legit then! They also say Fosun have finished in a European spot on 'multiple' occasions, sadly that says a lot about the quality of research!
Not a pop at you Black buddy but I wouldn't call it an especially in depth view. In fairness I reckon I'd put Fosun somewhere between 12th-14th in the league, but then football ownership (by it's nature) is generally a barrel of bad apples! ??

4.) 18 Dec 2024 10:05:19
It depends on the criteria that they are judging best and worst by I suppose.

5.) 18 Dec 2024 21:06:03
Depends on the time period you are measuring them over.
Clearly if you take the entire period up to to day, then we have come from a mid table championship side to the Premier league, with 2 7ths, a Euro 1/4 and an fa cup semi, and thus they deserve to be reasonably well regarded, perhaps low to mid teens out of 20.
However if you take it from say Seville onwards you probably wouldn't be anywhere near as generous as none of the current 20 Premier League sides have declined as fast and as far as we have since then.
Indeed it is worth noting if we do go down we will not return to where we were before Fosun, a dull mid table Championship team, but given the mountain of debt the club now carries and what would be left of the squad, we may well be a club that could fall straight down through leagues as we did in the 1980s.
Given how likely this is I struggle to see which owners you place below Fosun and thus 20th seems fair.
ps Wanted to apologise to BB for failing to recognise his extremely kind and generous words in a post last month - really appreciate.
Before I starting posting I actually only knew one of the other posters and indeed now have still only met and become face to face friends with one other poster but - and Eds take a massive bow here! - I certainly regard the community here as good cyber friends.
To that note I hope you all, Eds and posters, enjoy the holiday period and, (for the posters at least), that Wolves can bring us the amazing present of a dramatic turnaround in our fortunes!

6.) 18 Dec 2024 21:56:13
Thank you so much tfiog, that means a lot. Merry Xmas to you and all the posters on here. Hopefully a better year to come as well.

If relegation means getting rid of Fosun then so be it, and HOPE we get ambitious owners.
My absolute nightmare would be that Fosun keep us for successive seasons and bleed us until the parachute money has gone also.

I wonder what words of wisdom Shi will come out with when he cracks open his next fortune cookie. Not sure the word 'optimism' should be on it.
I hate the idea of wrapping players in blankets, but to publicly criticise a player is not only stupid it's downright unprofessional. If you're going to criticise someone it should be done in private without the media. Wouldn't suprise me if Cuhna doesn't slap in a transfer request now, rather than sign a new contract.

How on earth can we hope not just to survive this season, but to grow as a club doing absolutely stupid things like that. Maybe Guo coming across to sack Shi and Hobbs with a promise to steady the ship with professional appointments? Hope he's not looking forward to the Arsenal game as we'll get battered.

I've not been one to heavily criticise our owners, but this is becoming painful and humiliating now. Whilst I do believe in becoming self sustainable it's relatively easy when you're a top club and not one in our position. How on earth can Shi keep his position unless Fosun don't care either. I honestly think we'll be relegated this year. It may be a blessing in disguise as we might get new owners, maybe some with ambition.

The club is a shambles. VP needs to get this resolved immediately and get these players regardless of who they are out of the dressing room and away from the first team. I would rather see us lose with a team of no 'so called stars' who give 100% effort than watch that. This is as bad as the O'Hara, R Johnstone era and I suspect we all know the outcome of that.
