So the issue was for the last few seasons, the recruitment was poor and as a result we face a relegation battle

The person responsible for recruitment was Matt Hobbs so the club make a change as they don't want to be in that position again but now that Hobbs is about to sign for Palace, he's great is he.

Did we suddenly forget the last 2 seasons and the signings he identified resulting in the clubs decline.

Yes Jeff Shi signs the checks but Matt Hobbs identified the players.

Couldn't disagree more. JSL, Andre J Gomes are first class signings for a club in our position. The problem was before this when we overspent so had our budget seriously curbed through PSR.

The problem is Hobbs is only as good as what you choose to look at. Lots of good signings, some not so good - but who gets it right 100% of the time. People wanted Thelwell out when Morgan and Moxey were running the show, but then moaned when he left.

Hobbs brought in GoN which on the whole wasn't great, but when you look at the context of JL walking just before the start of the season, it changes how you should view that appointment.

Hobbs did ok in a few difficult situations. The only thing I disliked was how long it took to sack GoN, but how much of that was Hobbs and how much was Shi and the owners?

After the horrors of the sellers era I thought Hobbs was nothing short of brilliant given the pool he was given to fish in. He also seemed adept at promoting the club to potential incomers something the current revolutionary guys appear to be struggling with. In my book a sad loss.

No one said he was great until you did Wandering. I simply pointed out that it will be interesting to see how he gets on at Palace and (personally) I do think it will be interesting. I would also just point out that I don't think the quality of his signings were the problem it was more the timing of them (waiting until Jan when the damage was done). Is that his fault or is that on the club? He gets given a budget for each window and has to work within that, so it's impossible to know who's bright idea it was to sell Kilman and not replace him until Jan but that decision almost cost us Prem footy?!
So let's see if we've learnt our lesson because if it was on Hobbs then surely we can expect to see the MUCH needed reinforcements coming in the next 13 days? Like my original post said will be interesting to see who feels better at the end of the window, us or Palace ?

I don't think he's great either Bullysboy. But all over social media, some fans are saying we've made a massive mistake letting him go.

He brought some good players in sure but it was on his watch that we had 3 poor seasons. Let's not forget that although Cunha was purchased with Hobbs at the helm, he didn't want him and it was Lopetegui who insisted on it.

Um not sure I'd believe that to be honest Wandering. Remind me what did Cunha do when he scored the same week as he signed a new contract? He ran up to the bench, running straight past all players, coaches and even the manager and dived on Hobbs! Now we won't know how good or bad Hobbs was for a season or so while the dust settles but one thing is for sure that Cunha CLEARLY rated the guy!
I would also suggest that those on social media saying that are probably not focusing on Hobbs record but more focusing on the fact that the current window looks VERY underwhelming (at time of writing)! You said it yourself, we went for Teti for his international background but has it made a difference so far? I can't see it but let's hope come the end of the window we do ?

Doesn't matter anyway. Neither are at the club anymore. Hopefully Hobbs pulls out all the stops and takes Hwang with him.
