So instead of using these matches to blood a new in-form defender who's been part of one of the tightest defenses in the Prem Southgate insists on playing Maguire and Dier.
What could possibly go wrong?
It has to be said Germany weren't great but three individual errors, three goals, how poor is that?

Same as he played a back 3 for two games and didn't play Coady. Preferred to play Stones who isn't match fit and went off injured. I get why he played Dier, but based on form, understanding and players available if there's a back 3 going on then Kilman and Coady should be tested at international level at the same time. The reason Kilman isn't in the squad is he didn't play under Southgate at U21 level which means he's not one of his mates.

Didn't even give Toney a sniff which means if he goes to Qatar he'd have to make his debut during the tournament. If Kane gets injured and misses the tournament or is out of form there is no plan B with many minutes for England. The last two games were a missed opportunity to address this.

Trying to not be overly negative - Playing Saka in his correct position shows the quality he has, and it was great to see Mount finally offer something in an England shirt. Bellingham was awesome again and played a part in all 3 of England's goals. Has to be playing himself into being a regular starter.

Alex, Longmynd considering we were relegated from the group anyway I agree, its hard to see what he was trying to achieve. If we were even trying a completely new system you could justify the same players in different roles but it just came over as a run of the mill pre season runout. If ever there was a chance to blood players in a competetive match against better quality international opponents Germany certainly and arguably even Italy was the match to try it.

In violent agreement with most of above posts.
What poor squad management last night. The result was irrelevant as we were already history.
The perfect opportunity to blood new squad members ie Toney with no pressure missed.
Again VERY defence orientated. Yes, we do have players like Sterling and Foden who can break quickly, but why not start on the front foot?
We have skill and pace in the side, look to dominate early might be a tactic to try.
I will never forgive him for the mismanagement of the World Cup semi and the total mismanagement of the European Final.
Hard to see him getting a job in the Premiership.
