If the current squad is, as it appears, miles short of the standard of the three sides that came up last season i.e. the top end of the Championship then once you sell the best 3 or 4 players, (and remember there is a very unhealthy gap between the better players in the side and the others), it is likely that the squad as currently formed not only does not come straight back up but struggles to survive in that league. Therefore be careful about who you want to leave this January.Clearly the club can only sell the players other teams want but as the club allegedly has no financial pressures, (not that anything the club says should be taken other than with a very very large pinch of salt!), it should only undertake business for football reasons.
Sell those not good enough - plenty of choice there - retain the handful of those who are good enough and if possible add one or two more who fit that category.Maybe if this had been the strategy, (instead of selling diamonds for a fraction of their value and buying lumps of coal - being polite- for a king's ransom ), then the club wouldn't be in such a mess!
Thus although it seems highly unlikely, it would be in the club's best interest - which of course may well not be the same as Fosun's - for certain players to be retained if at all possible.
I completely understand that some players may well be highly motivated to leave a sinking ship for better conditions and of course Fosun may well have been encouraging others - the more valuable ones, i.e.

Andre and J Gomes - to get out so that they, Fosun, can pocket the cash but hopefully if the club is properly run, (ok no chance of that then!), it might be able to retain the tiny amount of Premier League quality talent it has this January.
If the 2nd half of the season - as a result of a competent January window and better coaching/ tactics etc - can be at least less embarrassing maybe even once relegation is confirmed then maybe the diamonds can be retained - whilst the remaining coal is sold off  - for the following season.
This would then mean that the club would indeed have a chance of returning to the Prem - the diamonds in the squad would outshine anything any Championship side would have!
This January is therefore really very very important for the club.
Another hopeless window - selling Andre, Emmanuel and Gomes for a fraction of their true value and allowing Krejci to return to Girona whilst buying league 1 at best standard players for inflated prices - could mean the club is fated to a very very long period in the wilderness of the lower leagues. Sadly however I have little hope that the basic level of competence that a change in the current insane policy requires isn't still beyond the club even after Jeff's change of role!

Anticipating how Fosun will be managing the Club going forward, I sadly see a long time back in the wilderness.
There is no sign on a new CEO and much needed appropriate experience.
Plenty of bluster about transfer market, but nothing concrete as yet.
Who exactly is in charge? Interim Shi I assume will not be making any decisions.
