Latest rumour we have entered the race to sign Ben Dias from Blackburn.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2022 20:11:29
Seen that on Football League World website, also attracting WHU

01 Aug 2022 20:19:56
Can confirm this rumour,????????

01 Aug 2022 21:18:22
I'd be happy with Brereton-Dias. The sort of player who has shown he can finish but provides fluidity to the forward line.

01 Aug 2022 21:26:53
Also add Lucas Joao and Eldor Shomurodov to the never ending list of players linked

01 Aug 2022 22:15:57
And Ludovic Ajorque

02 Aug 2022 06:46:52
Add Paulo Wanchope to the ever growing list. Might as well have a bit of fun with this.

02 Aug 2022 06:51:32
Occampos from Sevilla?

02 Aug 2022 07:35:29
Sadly, like January, the Sellars team responsible for recruitment appear to be racing around like headless chickens.
It us now a few hours before our first game and we gave no recognised striker for Sat!
Our midfield hasn't been strengthened.these people are not fit for purpose.
I had hoped the Fosun Chairman was in Europe to sack Shi and Sellars.

02 Aug 2022 08:12:18
That was always my concern Rugeley. I was hoping they would prove me wrong but so far, no such luck.
I know these are just rumours that are probably made up due to the lack of real news but it does make you wonder. Let's hope they score late in the game.

02 Aug 2022 08:14:31
Let’s be honest folks, the well has run dry. If there was money for transfers they’d be made by now. If Raul is to be replaced I suspect it’ll be a loan signing.

02 Aug 2022 09:16:12
How would replacing shi and sellars make any difference?
The running of the club is set out from our owners.
I don't think shi and sellars set the mandate they are told it.

02 Aug 2022 09:40:30
It is all about contacts and I am sorry to say that Shi and Sellers do not seem to have any apart from Mendes. Without adding quality to our squad we will be in trouble this season.

02 Aug 2022 09:44:21
@Phil789 - Shi and Sellars are the public face of Wolves and transfers, therefore they get the vitriol.
In the same way the idiots have turned on Connor Coady.

02 Aug 2022 10:28:18
Reason for my question is if the budget is set there's not a lot imo anyone could do better than shi and sellars.
But baza I hadn't thought of what you said about contacts.
So I have food for thought and have actually gained something.

I agree with Debbie but don't think any of these idiots are on this site.

02 Aug 2022 10:43:04
Debbie-Shi and Sellars are wolves transfers not just the public face of them. They can however only spend what they are given by the owners.
I reserve my vitriol until the Opera Diva has finished.

02 Aug 2022 11:43:42
Lets just see what happens on Saturday, then we can all say what we want.

02 Aug 2022 12:05:10
The senior managers always have to carry the can Phil, it comes with the job. However, it should also be noted that Wolves like all Premier teams have a transfer department whose sole job it is to track potentially available players not only in Europe but across the world to some degree. So the issue may not be contacts or market awareness it may be the policy, the selection criteria, the budget or a combination, all of which will be set by the senior team.
To be fair they might even being, super diligent rejecting various suggestions for whatever reason. Last year, for example, they allegedly rejected Sanchez for what was a fairly short term injury.
This may explain why transfers have become fewer and further between, although the budget is probably the chief suspect.
There's still a month to go and I'm hopeful something will happen in this period along the lines of a midfielder, a striker and that kid from Chile, or I hope it will.

02 Aug 2022 12:08:45
@fable666, all due respect mate, the issues have been there for all of last season and before. We’ve no striker, and it doesn’t look like we’re getting one. I do hope I’m wrong.

02 Aug 2022 13:01:05
Shi and Sellars were good at the jobs they were bought in to do. What they aren't so good at is the DoF role which they've had to take on since losing Thelwell and not replacing him!

02 Aug 2022 13:17:39
I could of asked this question long time back bullysboy but better late than never.
I understand a lot more now where you and Thefutureisoldgold have been coming from.
Any road up the wolves Saturday.

02 Aug 2022 14:46:55
Wheres old Jeff shi nowadays?

02 Aug 2022 19:23:17
I would consider airing ire once the transfer window shuts and there are no more purchases. However if we did sign players, they would be coming in later than players at other clubs-which is not ideal. The opening games were more winnable than they are now, which again is not ideal. One thing is for sure-or should be-the atmosphere is will become toxic if the August-October yields few points

02 Aug 2022 19:49:57
Looks like we’re making some steps towards shomurodov don’t know a lot about him, does anyone else have have much knowledge of him

02 Aug 2022 21:49:54
I fancy wolves to get a respectable amount of points going into September.
With some additions we will be fine.
Just back them there are some quality players in the squad and if they focussed on giving there all for the Wolves and the squad we would be successful yes I am thinking of players like Traore and Cutrone what have either of them got to lose?

02 Aug 2022 23:47:05
Phil - I completely agree that Shi and Sellars will be following a manadate from Fosun - who also will have been highly influential on the budget - certainly the amount of money Wolves can spend over and above what it generates itself.
The mandate appears quite sensibly to be "buy good young players who we can improve and potentially sell on for a profit to reinvest in even better, (and perhaps more), players so that we can move up the table in a constructive and sustainable fashion".
Something pre Seville we seemed to be doing quite nicely - Jota perhaps being the poster boy for the project .
I even have no objection to Fosun saying after Seville - for whatever reason it was - that Wolves can only spend what it generates from transfers.
After all we have actually spent quite a lot of money since Seville - albeit virtually all funded by disposals.
What I massively object to though is that post Seville we lost all the people who knew how to spend money and allowed Jeff to become head of the transfer committee aided by Sellars and did not appoint as BB says a D of F who knew the market and how it works.
Whilst sadly unlike BB i'm not certain that Jeff or Sellars are particularly good at anything that is not relevant to this arguement.
What is surely undeniable though is that they are absolutely useless at buying footballers and have totally failed to follow the "assumed" mandate.
For example Fabio was a very poor transfer from day one. He was a prospect who presumably looked good and had a good record in youth football. However if, (and surely we did) you watched him play - can't run, can't control the ball, is weak as water and is a terrible finisher - you would know that when we signed he was not a £35m player. I noted this, (and was castigated for doing so by many on here) in posts after seeing him a handful of times. This was not brilliant or amazingly perceptive of me as it was surely screamingly obvious to anyone who has watched or played football at any level above infant school play ground kick abouts. Shi as an engineer from Shanghai - not a place known for its football heritage - may not in fact have this level of experience but Sellars does and surely somewhere in the club we have people who can tell Shi what footballers look like even if Sellars cant/won't! Fabio was not even a £3.5m player, (For example Chiquinho is a significantly better prospect and cost under £3m!), so no matter how much we improve him - and he has improved a lot - there is no chance of us selling him anytime soon for anything other than a huge loss - especialy if you count his exorbitant salary.
Clearly anyone can make a mistake although a mistake of this size would end most careers. But Jeff and his committee followed it up by paying massive money for Hoever, far too much for Semedo, loaning in William Jose, signing Hwang last Jan when we had a free option to wait till the summer - by which time of course we all (except perhaps Jeff who probably still doesn't know what a footballer looks like), knew he was rubbish and possibly worst of all taking Trincao on a very very expensive loan deal - actually quite a good player but who sadly had zero desire to be here and demonstrated that total lack of desire every time he went on and disagraced the shirt!
Why do they survive and why don't Fosun remove them?
Probably because Fosun who (even if they had the football knowledge to do so - which the probably dont!) will not be micro-managing this small out post of their empire but will merely see that the results on the pitch remain good and to a limited extent the finances remain acceptable - we aren't asking them for more cash!
This though has nothing to do with Jeff and Sellars merely reflects just how strong the side was at Seville and with 9 of the starting 11 last year being from that era it obviously takes quite a while for the poor managment of the club by Jeff and Sellars to countermand the brilliance of what went before.
Indeed unlike many it seems I remain reasonably confident that there is till enough left in the tank from pre Seville to see us through this year albeit that cracks are clearly now starting to show.
Long rant Phil - sorry.

03 Aug 2022 00:16:10
Two brilliant posts there mate well said.

03 Aug 2022 01:33:55
Yeah I have to agree, cracking posts as usual Future! As I've said before you have very much bought me round to your way of thinking over these last few seasons. All I would say is that when we appointed Sellars it was as head coach for the Under 23's and off the back of his successes working with Man Citys academy at the time it was seen as a bit of a coup. How ironic then that the fact he is now doing a job for us that he has little back ground or previous success in shows how far we have fallen in terms of our back room recruitment (or lack of there in). I still think we might bring someone in but as your sorry list shows its very hit and miss as to weather of not it will actually provide the goals we need?! I see after taking McNiel on a steal Everton are now working on getting Cornet over the line. I may not of always been Thelwells biggest fan but the proof as they say is in the pudding. Since he left our success rates in the market have plummeted, since he's arrived at Everton (this summer) they FINALLY seem to be doing business at a more sensible level they will likely sign three good players (McNeil, Cornet and Gueye) for a combined outright fee of less than they payed for just Sigurdson!
As for us who knows, I like Lage but think without a last minute dash round the aisles Jeff may be selling him short of the players he needs to do his job yet again! It worries me that the only way we are likely to get funds is by selling Adama and Neves, it worries me because with this backroom I'm not convinced the players we would get to replace them will be nearly as useful as either of um! Time will tell ??

03 Aug 2022 05:49:59
So well put TFOG and BB11.
Hopefully help those who believe the Club is currently well run, understand better.
Recruitment does not have to be about money. It is about having a strong network and good judgement.
Nuno left frustrated,I believe Bruno is likely to go the same way once our lack of success this transfer window is evidenced.
We had an excellent squad base created when we arrived back in the Premiership, but once Shi took over the day-to-day, we have gone backwards.
Anyone not seeing that is in denial.

03 Aug 2022 06:06:38
No worries Thefutureisoldgold.

03 Aug 2022 06:58:32
How can fans then who put their trust in fosun for all the brilliant players we see our established premier league status look ahead for the next say 4 or 5 years when key players will be replaced like mouthino jiminez?
Do we look ahead knowing our recruitment policy department is not up for the job?
Will we not sign the right players by missing out on them due to shi and sellars?
I read understand all what's been written but I have to put my faith in our club whether that's deemed right or wrong it's how it has to be for how I tick.
I can't go into the season and future seasons thinking we are not good enough or never will be good enough.
I would lose all the point of being a fan.
If that's deemed I'm in denial then yes I'm in denial and not afraid to write/speak my mind just as everyone else speaks/writes their mind.

03 Aug 2022 07:50:49
Think we can pretty much all agree that Shi and Sellars aren't upto the job but where is Uncle Jorge nowadays? Yes I know he is out for himself but he's helped get us a lot of the quality we've seen in our squad. Surely we should still be tapping him up for a couple of signings. I genuinely think we are only 2/3 additions from really challenging and that's the frustrating part that we are so close

03 Aug 2022 11:22:18
Totally agree that it's not always about the money and more about the networks.
We don't usually splash the cash on big signings so we should be used to this non-activity at this time of year.
I'd like to see some of our youngsters given time too, look at Kilman for example, especially if Sellars has seen them for a few years (that may be a barometer for his abilities).
Perhaps the larger bench will offer those opportunities.

03 Aug 2022 11:36:12
Phil- as I've said before fella never lose your optmism as it is a FAR healthier way to live! I would also point out that part of the frustration I have with the club is that most of the issues are fairly easy to fix! We have chosen to save money on the back room when if Fosun understood footy they would realise that is the WORST possible false economy. I suppose my point is that as frustrating as I find it the silver lining is that it really wouldn't be especially hard to fix. Like most issues our biggest challenge is Fosun seeing that there is in fact an issue, if that happened all it would take is a few of the right appointments and we could be back on track in no time. Sadly where I think Future is correct (as usual:) is that I think Fosun are at a point where they have MUCH bigger issues (please see Bloomsberg articles). I hope I'm wrong but I think it could take something going seriously wrong for them to even notice at this stage. Let's hope I've got it wrong,as it's not something I want to be right about.
Theres nothing wrong with putting your faith in the club fella. In fairness I genuinely believe that Jeff and Scott want nothing but the best for us, they've just lost my faith that they are up to delivering it. Doesn't mean I'm right though buddy, in fact with the usual jist of this rumour page it's quite likely I'm entirely wrong or have just made it up! ??

03 Aug 2022 11:58:32
future and BB, great posts guys, I've not posted much as I'm not that well atm and am finding motivation a little difficult but I just find the approach off Jeff and Scott to be an absolute shambles. We start on Saturday without a striker. Makes us look sadly like a Sunday morning pub team and that is simply shameful! I simply find it very upsetting to see our club being run this way.

So near and yet so far! COYW.

03 Aug 2022 12:25:26
Cheers bullysboy a knee jerk reaction post first thing.
I'm in a fizz as like all I don't see what goes on behind closed doors.
But with only 1 decent signing it's hard to come on here the way I am full of beans when there's so much frustration and fear of more injuries with our thin squad.

Ken sorry to hear you not well, best wishes for your health .?

03 Aug 2022 12:49:37
Get well soon Ken, your comments are missed on here.

03 Aug 2022 15:55:18
Thanks Phil and Long.
On the the subject of Ben Brereton-Diaz I mentioned him weeks ago, surprised we haven't tried sooner. Fits our profile, 23, offers something we don't have (scores goals for a start! Cynical, sorry). Would only improve and increase in value. What's not to like. Better prospect than one I could mention.

03 Aug 2022 16:32:59
TFIOG well analysed post. What none of us know is was Jeff warned that Silva may not be a good investmemt by Sellars or anyone else in the recruitment team. If not why not. In my personal experience underlings telling senior management not to do something is extremely rare in any organisation.

03 Aug 2022 17:08:43
Arddunby. I think you may find that an employee called Nuno told him and apparently that didn't end well. I think we might have covered that topic though! ?

03 Aug 2022 17:30:49
For me Ken, Diaz ticks all the boxes so agree entirely with you.
He is settled already in England he knows where the back of the net is and that's what for me our biggest problem for the last 2 years has been.
Fingers crossed we some action in the signings department.

03 Aug 2022 17:39:25
Hope u better soon ken,a couple of signings before weekend will
Perk u up,?

03 Aug 2022 17:57:54
Cheers guys. We can but hope!

03 Aug 2022 19:33:20
Don't know what the big problem is, both Cutrone and Campana are Wolves players. We currently have no one to play up front so play one of them, preferably Cutrone but either much better than nothing. Surely not thinking of a false number 9, having Podence running at two big centre backs is laughable.

03 Aug 2022 20:51:52
Get well soon Ken mate.

03 Aug 2022 20:56:39
Guys - been out all day with my son at Woburn safari park so apologies for not replying.
Ken - v sorry to hear you are unwell again - my very best wishes to you and fingers crossed for a prompt and full recovery.
Phil - never lose your faith!
I am not sure how we will do over the next few years and what if any changes will be made to the way the club is run - only Fosun will know that!
However as South Banker says (and I also genuinely believe it) we are frustratingly still only 2 or 3 players away from being a top top side. I don't know if we will find these players in the market, (with our current transfer commmittee or indeed any new one that may be constituted) or even if they are actually already with us as for example Kilman was. Never the less like you I have to have faith or as you beautifully put it - what is the point in being a fan!

03 Aug 2022 22:10:11
Hope you start feeling better soon Ken.

03 Aug 2022 23:22:15
Thanks gents. As I ended my first post on this thread which in essence agrees with your post future.

So near and yet so far.

04 Aug 2022 08:43:26
Thefutureisoldgold I used to be a zoo keeper but got sacked.
There was signs everywhere saying
DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS,
So I didn't.
