Spiers has said incoming players now not likely.

They had problems sorting a loan and there is a reluctance to spend big money needed to bring someone with Raul coming back.

Big Pat is the man for now.

That says to me that Raul will be back or is scheduled to return this season.

The problem with loans in this window is that if the players any good then the selling club (usually) wants a mandatory purchase included. Something we have (in my opinion) rightly avoided for the most part. I suspect this is part of what the 'problems' are 🤔.

Extremely unlikely I would think, Debbie, but time will tell.

@ Old Wolf - respectfully I doubt Patrick Cutrone is the round peg for a round hole. He's a stopgap at best. Maybe PC complemented by a loan striker.

The recall of MGW and Cutrone is sensible. MGW was a v highly talented 18 year old who simply has not trained on indeed has probably gone backwards. {sadly that is the case with most promising 18 year olds - as I said in another post look at the world cup winning side of 2017 of the 11 only Foden is now playing regular first team football in the Prem and they are all, like MGW, 20 and therefore should be not that far off from moving into their prime years.

However from the snippets I have seen and read about his time at Swansea until he got injured he was doing ok.
We are desperately short of bodies and he will compete with Vitor for minutes when we line up with a more advanced midfield player. {Since it would seem from the paucity of minutes granted to Vitor so far that we are highly unlikely to pay the absurdly high £20m option we negotiated for him at the end of the year MGW may well be viewed as a cheaper and better option for the future? }.
I also didn't think Cutrone was that bad when he was here and certainly far far better than anything Silva has shown.

Worryingly though the few snippets I have heard about his time in Italy ( not many to be honest) are not positive though.
But given the continued impact the virus is having on our finances it may be that after the massive, (and extremely wasteful expenditure), in the summer we simply have no choice under FFP rules but to stick by what we have rather than investing further.

This is a concern as unless Cutrone hits the ground running our season is likely to become ever more depressing and there has to be risk that to re-ignite the project next summer Neto or Podence may have to be sacrificed.
The purchase of Silva is the gift that never stops giving!
I guess if you cut your own foot off you limp for a long time!

I think we have been pretty spoiled by Raul, his number of goals given the level of support he received is amazing and impossible to fully replace.

But, since his injury things have improved in our attack. Four at the back means we get more players forward and in the last few games there have been chances for Fabio (several) Otasowie and Donck which an in-depth alert striker would have buried.

It is possible that if we can build up Cutrone's confidence chances will be created and taken. If Neto Saiss and Traore keep up their efforts then the hope created by Raul could be patched over for the rest of the season.

Noticed luka Jovic's been left out of the real madrid squad tonight, know we were linked with a loan move, maybe something in it.

Muscle injury allegedly.

Cutrone was fine in Italy. I suspect the Italian team decided they didn't want to pay that much for him.
