Being linked with Santiago Arias, plays for Atletico Madrid I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see it to be honest De Wolf.

Looks like Reguilon is going Utd.

And Telles has had his transfer fee dropped to 18m. Is that for Wolves?

Also we have still been linked with AMN and Corona ove rthe past week.

I reckon this is an agent or Athletico trying to increase interest so the fee and value goes up.

Christian Eriksen is available ; 6 years younger than Joao! Moutinho excellent tonight, though. COYW.

Preston- agree Joao was excellent tonight. And Inter can keep Erikson for me, he flattered to deceive for years at Spurs and has been found out in 6 months when playing in a very average league. Its a no for me fella 👍.

14 Sep 2020 22:32:43
Maybe, too late to put a bid in for Reece James, oh well! COYW.

Now there I can agree, what a player! What is it about English Youth Systems and RB's at the moment?! We have more depth in that one position (nationally) than the rest of the defence put together! Weird 🤔.

I don't think it's an issue with the system bullyboy.

The issue is that there aren't many good wing backs around. The top clubs look for alternative ways of creating wing backs.

Hence why there is TAA and AMN.

Re Eriksen. He is great going forwards but far from certain he would be willing to subsume his own interests for the greater good and work hard defensively. The way we play and yesterday after a fast start was no different is always going to require your central mids to work their socks off.
Again we only had 45% possession and for 20 mins early in 2nd half we were totally passive on back foot allowing SU to punch themselves out on our rock like defence. That requires all 10 to contribute. Ps I thought Vitor looked promising when he came on and willing to work.

Re:Thefutureisoldgold.

Wouldn't touch eriksson with a barge pole. In this spurs documentary he is so passive. Like it's okay to say I want to leave. But he didn't cause any problems happy to sit there and wait for something to happen. Whilst Rose gets stick for wanting Ac Milan to come in for him but at least he wants to play. When there defence hadn't kept a clean sheet in 11 games.

It's interesting the view that we were passive. I understand what your saying but maybe that is a negative of the 3 at the back with wing backs formation. Players aren't capable of going 100% for 90 mins. don't mistake that for me letting Traore off the hook defensively. But Liverpool conceded 3 at the weekend so maybe that is a weakness of wingbacks?

Mad- wasn't really a criticism of the system to be honest (don't think I phrased it very well) more of a point regarding the sheer wealth of talent England has at RB. When you think that Wan Bissaka isn't even getting a sniff at the team whilst playing for United (and England managers always like to give their players a chance:) then it kind of shows just how strong we are there! Crazy really 👍.

Don't think we need to worry about a left back now, get AMN in for rwb, and that should be business done?

First glimpse of Nunos Wolves 2.0. overlapping centre backs. Started to see Saiss push forward with Marcal dropping in as cover. Expect there to be a solid RWB signed soon to do the same covering. Underlapping CB and dove tailing with WF and WB. That means more goals from players like Saiss. Another tweak was the WF dropping into the No.10 area. With a smart chip Neto and Podense received the ball in good areas. Drawing out the opposition defenders to give space to fellow forwards. Worked a treat. This evolved tactic and formation makes Wolves solid at the back and dynamic on the counter. Hopefully a good season awaits!

Erikson's a no from me even I at 68 could play a couple of decent balls every 90 mins and watch everybody else run past me for the rest!

I'm happy with the system (which this weekend apart didn't hurt either us or Liverpool too much last year, although their system is different with only 2CBs and 3 Def CMS) but as i think we are all saying it does mean that your WBs are v important. They have to both give the defensive solidity we all want but also provide the out ball when the 2 in mid are not surprisingly outnumbered and therefore struggling to take hold of the game.

Doherty (OMG I'm STILL going on about him) did that perfectly (I know many don't agree! ) and Otto was pretty good too. For different reasons both are gone and (on a sample of 1 game only let's not forget) we haven't got it right yet. But we won it was a good performance with many positives - Podence was great and our bench meant that the subs did change the game positively ( even without Jota or Silva getting a kick! ) .

Nuno will sort out the WBs - maybe Marcal will just be a more defensive minded one and like Spurs did last year we will overload one side? or maybe 2 new WBs will arrive?
Still excited and v positive!

Sorry Bully but your right the system doesn't work.

It's scandalous that clubs are spending 6+ years developing players then they are all playing them in the same position. Is that a system issue or an England manager issue? Probably both.

Maybe the FA of each country should have more say with a player up until the age of 21? Giving greater guidance on opportunities.

Surely we should have 3-6 options in every position. And hopefully we'd hit success with 1-2 players in each position like the golden generation.

{Ed001's Note - you usually find youngsters don't necessarily play in the first team in the same position they began in. Alexander-Arnold was a central midfielder in youth football. Wan-Bissaka was a right winger right up until an injury crisis in the Palace team forced them to ask him to play a training game at right-back. There are many other examples, so you can't really do that and what kind of club would allow the relevant FA to decide where their players are played when it would have meant players like Alexander-Arnold and Wan-Bissaka would never have got into the first team. They both emerged as right-backs because of injuries and lack of other options meaning the teams had to put someone there. Would you want Wolves to find a youngster that slots in perfectly somewhere and then have the FA tell them they can't play them there because England needs them to play in a different position?}

Hi Ed. I don't think that's the issue. The issue is as you say we have a lot of players that can play a range of different positions but we don't have a England manager that would be willing to take a risk and play players in a range of different positions. For example wan bissaka could have played rb in the recent friendlies and we could have played TAA or AMN further forward.

I'm not against players playing different position if anything I embrace as a fan. Maybe more fans should so we do see the talent we have showcase what they can do like German and Spain in particular do under every manager and at every tournament even if it doesn't always pay off.

Nuno's done it with many players and it has paid off for Wolves. Such as Coady, Traore, Vinagre, Jota, Neto, Podence, Neves and Saiss to name a few. :)

{Ed001's Note - Coady started his career playing centre of a back 3 in the Liverpool youth teams, then began alternating between midfield and defence. So he was well used to it. Most youth players do play multiple positions to improve their game, but it is a different kettle of fish to do that in the pro ranks. You have to change the way you think, which is why so few utility players are very good overall and tend to just end up as fillers, rather than first choice players.

The problem with England is down to the FA's greed. They don't do anything for the benefit of the sport, but just for the benefit of their wallets. If they stopped charging obscene amounts for coaching courses, England would have a lot more top class coaches to choose from, instead of just ex-pros who get paid for by clubs. Nothing will change without more youngsters getting access to good coaching to help them through.}

I agree 100% Ed.

I'll get some old rumours going again.

Any news on Telles coming anyone?

And would fans prefer AMN or Corona?

15 Sep 2020 21:16:44
Well we won't be seeing Arias at rwb as he's signed for Sevilla, guess that means his agent has been doing his job.
