As Longmyndwolf says Fosun are from stupid and if - as we all hope - they are splashing the cash to buy Nunes and hopefully a striker, perhaps Ramos, (having already spent big buying Collins and Guedes) it will have been after careful consideration of their options.
I don't believe for one minute they are doing it because they love Wolves or believe in the project - although its total failure would lead to an embarrassing loss of face which they would I'm sure rather avoid. No, it will be because this is the best if not only option available to them
Having bought the club for what for them at the time was a relatively modest sum and seen it treble, quadruple or even quintuple plus in value over the first 4 years they sadly for what ever reason took their eye off the ball.
Now having surely become aware - (ok not from here as I'm sure we are not that vain but from the general sporting world of the rapidly changing attitude to Wolves, two weeks ago pundits had us down for a comfortable low mid table season but now - before today - they have us going down) - that something was afoot they seemingly have taken a closer look.
One assumes that they were more than a little disturbed at least.
Today the value of the club will have plummeted from where it was 2 years ago and, in any sale, they would struggle to get their money back but more worryingly if they/the club don't reverse the current malaise over the next few weeks and continue to drift towards relegation then by January they may well be looking down the barrel of huge losses.
Unless the squad have relegation clauses in their contracts the club, given the huge drop in revenues, will be unable to afford the wage bill and will be a forced seller of most of the first team squad. Sadly, despite having what would be probably the best first 11 ever to go down, (sadly it is no longer a 11 a side game but a squad game), they will raise in many if not most cases far less than hoped and some given their contracts are just unsaleable.
Consequently, even though we are told that Fosun have a multitude of problems, they now have little to no choice but inject rescue funding to protect their investment
What will be interesting to see is to what extent Jeff Shi is now left to run the club or if Fosun, having been forced to invest funds it can ill afford to keep the ship afloat, remove him, as surely, they will not want to see it run on to the rocks again?
Net net though as a Wolves fan if these deals can be got across the line it would appear to be a fantastic outcome that may - Fosun will certainly hope so - see us return to where we were before Jeff took over!

There's been some rumblings on Twitter that a Qatar invester has purchased 30% of the club, i'm taking it with a pinch of salt ofcourse.

Shi said I remember a few months ago we want the club to be self financing but if needed fosun is there to pump money if players are needed.

E.Musk tweeted he us buying man utd it was on wake up to money on 5live this morning.
Within 15 minutes it was confirmed its an on going joke from Musk.
I found this funny.

My concerns are that any outlays on nunes plus decent striker maybe offset with sales of Neto/neves (maybe outside their control if release clauses and fees are met) and its one step forward today and two steps back the next. Conner ronan is a fantastic prospect as is luke cundle but not yet 100% ready to fill full roles on a regular basis. Traore is traore and maybe a leaver, MGW is another 'gold mine' at the moment. So are Fosun going to build wolves into the international money makers through success or simply buy sell on and keep a stable presence until such times as its financially right to off load? As I said yesterday I don't want to rain on the parade but I'd like to know where we're going. The first things would be Neto not for sale (if possible) and neves signs a rewarding new contract.

I think to express concerns over 'will we sell to buy' etc is reasonable Abbey. Having said that Wolves have cleared the decks quite a bit just lately leaving an already thin squad pretty much threadbare. So this may just be not only a process of replacement and filling in the holes but a genuine attempt to overhaul and upgrade the squad following what was a disappointing end to last season after initially coming so close to Europe.
Fosun appear to be backing Lage and giving him the tools he needs to change our formation to 4-4-2 and will give him this year or most of it to get the job done. Europe will not only be the clubs ambition but the players as well, so these signings contribute to keeping the likes of Neves and Neto here. I think all football clubs have to be run as a business now, the £'s involved are eyewatering, but I think Fosun will not allow Wolves to be relegated and will step in with the stick should the hoop veer off course a bit.

Phil-I don't get the euphoria over the Elon Musk story. If I remember correctly did he not twitter a couple of months ago he was going to buy Wolves?

17 Aug 2022 11:49:52
Long-'Fosun will not allow Wolves to be relegated' It may not be in their hands. Other teams have a say.

As usual future an excellent business analysis from someone qualified to make it. I would also add that currently fees seem to be down, assuming Nunes deal goes through our current summer investment will stand at approximately £89m (less than city paid for Grealish last year). Buy low and sell high comes to mind! The best time to invest in new assets is when prices are down and Fosun appear to only be interested in quality additions at the monent, not the scattergun approach that was taken at times in the past eg: Mick's first EPL window. let's judge them at the end of the window and then after 10 games when the die has been pretty much set.

Musk is funny Phil mate he once tweeted he was buying Facebook so people can go outside again.

Which is of course true SQ, but why do we need to have this conversation before the start of every season. The way I see it we had a bad start to last season with most cutting the manager some slack as a newbie. Then we picked up throughout the season but failed to score enough goals which finally caught up with us and we finished poorly at the end. Many including Lage have called for 4-4-2, personally I have no opinion, but in truth we needed another quality CH to make it happen, we got one.
Then everybody said we needed an quality attacking or box to box midfielder, so, assuming it all goes through today ok, we've got one. Everyone said we need more attacking/goal-scoring options up front, so we got one. Finally, we need another quality striker, which I assume will also happen soon.
So Fosun have reacted and are making some top signings. Yes, we still have the soft underbelly of squad depth I grant you, but we've had that for a number of years and we haven't been relegated yet, nowhere near.

Longmynd I hadn't figured the clear out we've done, and your of course right and I'm reassured now I think about it. I'm still concerned over neto's sell out clause (s) than maybe beyond fosuns control and the big clubs damage limitation intent. If the commitment is made to wolves we should be flying. Its all abit to good to be true at the moment, unbelievable changes and it reignites our potential for the season. COYW.

Arddunnby - tks
Long - good post re the hoop. Completely agree. In fact the only way to make a football club viable is to win matches. In the 3 years upto Seville the club was a veritable alchemy machine turning a modest investment into a (if Fosun had sold) huge sum and a massive profit.
The only way to protect that investment let alone reaccess that now lost profit is to stay in the Prem and build. As SQ says other clubs won't simply give you that you have to earn it with sensible management and careful investment. Fingers crossed Fosun have learnt a painful lesson and now will not let it slip again.
Thus Abbey whilst it is obviously a concern that we will fund these acquisitions by selling our best players it would not be that rationale. The risk involved in selling proven performers to replace with new and hopefully talented players is high and the "bid/offer" spread is not insignifincant so surely he says with all fingers crossed they won't be so foolish as to sell our best players to fund these additions to the squad?

SQ,
I only heard about musk this morning
Luckily I know I got Rated who I know uses twitter.
SQ longmynd Thefutureisoldgold I'm useless maybe one day I will have a clearer mind and be of more use.

Only thing I know for fact is I'm same as 4411 split me in 2 and you will read wolverhampton wanderers like a stick of rock.

17 Aug 2022 12:52:43
Happy to help Abbey lol. Actually thinking about my response to SQ's point I mentioned a soft underbelly to the squad, but will that be true by the end of the window? Potentially, the bench is from Sarkic, Boly, Jonny, Toti, Bueno, Podence, Moutinho, Dendoncker, MGW, Cundle, Campbell, Jimenez (or other?), Ronan, Chan. Plus Mosquera and Chiquinho to return from injury and I've left out Cutrone, Bonatini and Traore, so not so full of kids after all.

17 Aug 2022 13:11:29
future, Long, Abbey and everyone else actually, points all well made. It's good to see the cash I thought they had held back last year plus more from budget for this year hopefully being spent and not selling players (yet and not I hope).
Reported that Bruno has spoken to Ramos I wonder if that's not possible how about Maupay, he knows the league and is a type we don't have plus at 26 of a reasonable age plus unlikely to moan if on the bench as he's often been in that position and has a good scoring record. Sorry if a bit disjointed I'm still not anywhere near 100%. Keep trying they say!

Totally agree Tfiog and I did say in a previous post that Fosun can't let regular investment slip. It doesn't have to be huge 'catch up' sums just maybe enough to upgrade a couple of players each year, but bring in quality even if it's younger quality. Teams can accommodate the odd less experienced player but don't put yourself in the position of having to raid the U23's again.
Personally, I'd also like to see investment in the fixed assets as well, we need to fully accommodate all who want a ticket, that's something Fosun could fund imo.
