Surprised a lot of fans think a narrow defeat is a good result, the attacking game we were promised never materialised even against Norwich and Burnley, we’re as expected by most in free fall down the table, we’ve managed a measly six attempts on target in the last four games, six hours of football = exactly one on target attempt per hour and the team we like to tell to “mind the gap” who were nine points adrift of us have overtook us, only five teams have lost more games, only the bottom team have scored less goals but on the plus side only the top three have conceded less. Seems Mr Lage has lost his way like so many before him, all we need now is the fiasco that will be the January transfer window, the falling out with the hierarchy and the inevitable parting of the ways, then we can look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel again.

Has Lage lost his way or realised, (as Nuno did), that with the squad he has this is the only way we can play that will stop us being relegated?
We have a great first 11 - capable of playing at the v top end of the league - when everyone is fit (which they haven't been for virtually the entirety of the last 2 seasons and in reality never will be again as for example Moutinho's lack of "fitnes" is simply due to the passage of time not a specific injury and Jimenez's "injury" is now almost certainly mental not physical) but virtually nothing below that.
Nuno told Shi this and Lage has done as well but what more can they do?
Zero net spend means you aren't even spending the depreciation!
Add to this the horrific eand huge rrors we are now all aware of in the market over the last 2 years and it is clear that despite the emergence of Kilman from non league football the squad is now v vulerable.
Whilst we are probably ok this year relegation over the next couple of years without a major change to the clubs strategy is almost inevitable.
Considering where we were after Seville ONLY 18 MONTHS AGO this is heartbreaking and sadly it would appear virtually exclusively due to the gross incompetence of Mr Shi.

I think if proper signings aren't made Summer things will get very nasty for Shi, Winter we can write off as there are rarely any bargains to be had and I can't see us spending £30+ million on a player in January with ffp still in play, Summer that ffp punishment has gone so no excuses then.
January we'll prob make Hwang perm and bring in a couple of loan signings.

If one team is constantly attacking (Man City), inevitably, the other team usually has to defend. If the other team parks 11 players behind the ball (Burnley) then the attacking team become frustrated. A much better comparison is the Villa/Leicester/Man Utd games when both teams tried to play expansive football.

When Mr Shi first came he said he new nothing about football and he had to learn quickly. Seems he is a very slow learner. Money thrown away and the needs not addressed. Out of his depth IMO.

Every post on this thread contains valid points and its difficult to disagree with amy of them which is why the current sittuation is so frustrating!

Well for someone who is out of his depth, he's managed to appoint a manager who got us promoted, finished 7th in 2 successive seasons, qualified for Europe and got to a cup Semi Final.

The doom and gloom merchants just do not go away do they. Very naive.

Another team talk from oxley on game day proves to be just the tonic, still not the most attacking team but I thought we looked better and good to see a goal go in, could easily have been 2 or 3. On to the next. COYW

and in Lage appointed a manager who is doing a v good job as well!

Patience I see is the way.

The pandemic surely has played a part.

Shi seems to have all the flack but any top job like his it comes as part of the package to be questioned when things don't go right so for my view I take what I read on here with a pinch of salt.

Our players who have missed chances all our attacking players this season where would we be in the league if those guilt edged chances were taken?
Would there be the reaction to shi if that had happened?
Horses for course's.

Nothing can be proved for fact about Shi so it's just assumptions in my eyes.

I wonder what Everton fans think about the money they have spent compared to us and we are improving.
Wonder what Leeds fans are thinking about their season.
We are steady Eddie's at present and will start to move up the gears in time.

Sorry Jas, but the buck must stop with him regarding player signings which was my point. £35 mil` for what? Could have got 2/3 decent players for that. Fabio is young yes but after watching him the old saying "you can`t make a silk purse out of a sows ear" springs to mind! I hope he proves me wrong.

15 Dec 2021 22:31:23
Shi has always said Fabio was his decision, I don’t blame him for having a punt. Sometimes you need to take risk in business at least he has taken responsibility. I don’t get how people can think he’s out of his depth, RAN has been a good signing, Hwang also looks good, Trincao looks to be getting there and Sa is a vast improvement on Rui.

15 Dec 2021 22:41:42
Wombourneron, if you're going to blame Shi for Fabio Silva, are you also prepared to give him credit for Patricio, Sa, Semedo, Ait Nouri, Traore, Neves, Jota, Moutinho, Jimenez, Saiss, Boly, Podence, Neto, Marcal? There's quite a few players signed by Shi that have been successful.

16 Dec 2021 11:53:05
of course Jas!
Regarding Fabio, which is my main gripe, Shi said he is a very special talent. From admitting to knowing nothing about football how is he qualified to see that quality in a player in some 4 yrs? More likely he was swayed by a persuasive agent. Just that at the time he was bought it was very obvious midfield and central defence needed strengthening IMO.

You have to laugh at some of the fans on here! The same fans that tipped us to spend the season in a relegation battle are now moaning cause we are only 8th and not out playing the best teams in the world! Hilarious ?
Almost at the half way mark and we are 8th in the League, we have the 4th best defensive record and all this without Lage getting to spend a single penny (other than the odd loan fee)! If this is Mr Lage losing his way then I can't wait for him to find it, next stop Champs League eh! Give ya head a wobble Oxley! Fine to question the club but TFG is spot on, Lage (like Nuno) is doing a fantastic job having been given a very tough hand by the club! Maybe let's be grateful for the job he's doing rather than question why he isn't able to compete with the biggest clubs in the world whilst operating on a (comparative) shoe string?! ?

Well said BullysBoyII.
Such short memories.

Spot on BB. Like Nuno Bruno is doing a cracking job. Scant support from the board so far. Let's hope he gets some soon, I look forward to seeing what a difference he can have on our style of play with people he wants.
