Eddie Howe not joining Celtic. Any thoughts?

I was glad he didn’t take the Celtic job as IMO he’s a good manager who gets the best out of players and likes to play attacking football a future England manager! Would love to see him at our club!

Well if its true what is being reported that he wanted to take the Bournemouth staff and seems particular about working with them leading Celtic to hold on until the playoffs were over then something seems a little strange. Apart from 1 season at Burnley he has only ever managed Bournemouth. I question if he is serious about managing outside the south. If he is I would certainly interview him his record of taking Bournemouth through the divisions is comparable with Graham Taylor at Watford IMO.

Not for us I hope! Big no from me I'm afraid. Bought poorly for Bournemouth so not the greatest judge of players in my opinion.

No for me I'm afraid. Spent serious money on dire players (not all transfers work out, plenty of examples of that at every club) . All Howe managed to do was keep Bournemouth in the PL. Their highest points tally was 46.

{Ed001's Note - he even admitted himself that he was terrible at recruitment and asked for someone to take over that part of the job at Bournemouth! So there is no doubt you are right about him wasting money on players. He also can't organise a defence and his coaching is lacklustre at best, I can't think of a single player he improved. He nearly destroyed Burnley, Dyche had to sell players to keep the club afloat when he replaced Howe. Then Howe returned to Bournemouth and was bankrolled by their very own Russian billionaire to get them to the Prem. I can't understand why anyone would want him at their club, but then people are calling for Lampard so it shows you don't have to actually be good at the job any more!}

I agree Ken, myself and one of the Editors have discussed this before. Its funny how people seem to think him brining Bournemouth through the leagues was some kind of Roy of the rovers tactical master plan. When in fact it was because of a Russian billionaire called Max Denim (who also happends to have the name of a Bond villain:) who systematically spent his way out of every one of those leagues! The season they got promoted from the Champ they were going to get whacked with the old ffp stick if they hadn't gone up! Howes an OK manager but again I think would be a liability with the position we find ourselves in. In his tenure at Bournemouth his defensive record never really improved, they played attacking football cause they couldn't organise a defence! He tried to out score teams and fair play to him got a way with it for a few seasons but as he never addressed their terrible goals against then it was only ever going to end the way it did. He has also (as Ken alluded to) wasted most of their transfer budgets on young players that never really became Prem standard (Jordan Ibe, Lloyd Kelly and our own Benik Afobe just to name some of the highlights)!
This transfer window is probably our most important one since Fosun came in. With that being the case that pretty much rules out Howe for me.

BB the prolific Solanke prime case 19m shocking purchase!

I'm afraid its a case of finding the best of whoever wants the job unless some unknown can be headhunted out of another club (which I doubt will happen now Thellwell has left the club) . My personal favourite would be the guy who just left Lille but I doubt we'll be in with a chance there. Bruno probably won't get a work permit and many of the names mentioned lack significant experience and/ or have serious flaws on their CV as many have pointed out (It goes with the teritory we all know that) . So unless Fosun can fish another Nuno out the pond (as opposed to a Zenga) that no-ones heard of this is the pond we're fishing in.

Ed001, you're well informed. I agree about choir-boy Howe. Ultimately the PL found him lacking. Who would be on your short-list for Wolves?

{Ed001's Note - Gallardo would be the one I would move heaven and earth to get, if it was possible.}

I see that Marcelo Gallardo was nominated by Lionel Messi as one of the three best managers in world football. Top choice Ed! Trouble is, he's wanted by clubs all over Europe.

{Ed001's Note - because he is that good.}

Crikey Eddie Howe has had a kicking he was voted the EFL manager of the decade in 2015 and kept Bournemouth in the Prem for 5 years he’s still very young and will learn from his mistakes especially in the transfer market Solanke being a prime example though you would have expected a young promising player from Liverpool to be better. As regards the money spent do you honestly think that Wolves would be in the position they are without the massive investment of their billionaire owners and getting out of the championship with champions league experienced players.

Eddie Howe pulled out of the Celtic job on Wednesday. The CEO at Celtic had his house and cars petrol bombed before that. At a guess I think Howe decided Glasgow wasn't for him because of this. A former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon even had death threats. It's terrible when football fans descend to those levels and it is also partly sectarian in nature.

29 May 2021 17:29:25
You say he will learn from his mistakes but take a look at Bournemouth goals agaisnt record over those 5 Prem years cause he never seemed to learn on that front. Don't get me wrong Taff I have no problem with rich oweners buying their way out of leagues, your quite right we did exactly that. But re-read my post cause my issue is this 'Roy of the rovers' stuff where people act like he worked miracles to get back to back promotions. It was the same 'miracle' most clubs use which is a loose interpretation of FFP and lots of money! 🤑.

Great call on Gallardo Ed, would he move to Wolverhampton though?! That's exactly the kind of manager we need, genuine pedigree, real experience and (sadly) so far a class above most of those actually linked to the job! 👍🐺.

{Ed001's Note - maybe he wouldn't but if you don't ask you don't know.}

According to Transfermarkt Gallardo is out of contract in December.
