Cowards and bullies have been found out! Mostly American, what a surprise! Our beautiful game stays intact, for now! Come on me babies FWAW.

Immediate 15point deduction and a ban on all new signings for 2 years from anywhere but lower leagues.
Unfair to fans but if they are true, so what, they will have to endure some pain! My plan for the 6 want always to prevent repeats.

Greed that’s all bottom line
Either points deduction or transfer bans should be there punishment, pointless fining them.

21 Apr 2021 08:55:55
I can understand the desire to punish, but if it is severe then it may well drive these clubs away. I would rather see a change in the rules that makes it clear that in the future if clubs pursue something similar then they and players will be banned from domestic and international competitions. Set it out in black and white, so the consequences are understood by all. They may also look to changing terms of ownership and ffp, the latter of which prevents smaller clubs growing by investment.

The reasons these clubs gave for this project should now be addressed and the whole game put on a sustainable financial footing, if that includes salary caps then so be it. EPL rules need to be addressed to prevent another farce like this happening again. However I'm not sure point reductions will be helpful IMO.

{Ed002's Note - The concept of a breakaway is not new - it is discussed regularly by a group of a maximum of 21 clubs who discuss other broad matters as well. This was just the response to a threat made by Liverpool and Manchester United.}

If you don’t punish these greedy clubs then what message does that send?

21 Apr 2021 12:48:06
Ed002 True I recall reading about the possibility of a future midweek European league in the old Shoot! Magazine in the 1970's. The idea is by no means new!

Imo the chief executives or/ and the owners are the ones to be punished.
These super 6 clubs of ours in England all have fans past and present who are exactly the same as us and the other fans in this country.

Back to us wolves,
I feel good and happy with fosun and nuno.

21 Apr 2021 14:48:23
I was impressed with the club's statement. Clear and in accordance with football history, understanding the fans, and a statement of intent, well said Fosun.

21 Apr 2021 15:34:04
Agree Phil, don't punish players and supporters for the mistakes of the owners. If the reasons given for the super league are genuine these owners will willingly support reform surely!

21 Apr 2021 21:00:24
Trouble is Arddunby/ Phil if the clubs get no punishment, do you really punish the owners as a competition ban, points deduction, etc, would affect share values, merchandising, and TV revenues. The fact that players, managers and fans may suffer adds to the punishment of the owners. This was a serious attempt by a few to destroy football as we know it, for their own selfish ends. Punishment must be severe and meaningful.

22 Apr 2021 11:45:26
Longmynd I get that but any sanction must be within the rules and you can bet these owners have had high paid legal minds go through the rules with a toothcomb to make sure that any immediate punishments could be challenged legally. It could do far more harm than good.

22 Apr 2021 13:59:25
Yes Arddunby but so have the owners of the other 14 clubs, Premier League, EUFA and FIFA who all seem united in the call for sanctions. I am not sure if there would be such a clamour if rules were not in place. Doesn't the Premier have a rule about not entering or playing in competitions without their approval. I suppose it will come down to did they sign up to play in or just discuss the ESL. As you say 'legal' definitions of the wording. I'm guessing it was the former given the ESL statements.

22 Apr 2021 14:49:08
Longmynd the last part of your post is key to this, was anything in writing as a commitment or were the statements just some form of verbal admission of interest. Presumably the 6 did not submit an intention to resign and they haven't played in any other competition. Only beneficiaries will be Lawyers I suspect.

23 Apr 2021 06:31:37
Never did believe ESL would happen. Just desperate Spanish clubs sounding off, but Rules will have to be toughened NOW!

{Ed001's Note - it's not dead yet. There are still talks ongoing. It won't go away any time soon.}
