Just want to pose a wee question- because I don't believe it has been asked but, a lot of our signings via Mendes have been on loan to buy yet we paid £ 36 mill for a 17 yr old who only ever played 12 games as far as I know. No "try before you buy".

What's the question?

Belfastwolf, I may be being a bit thick here but I can't see the question your asking.

Question is: why did we buy a kid for that amount of money with little experience? Some of the other acquisitions were loans to buy.

He is asking why we didn’t sign Fabio on a loan with an option to buy when that has been our policy with other players.

Because he was a hot property and would have been snapped up by one of the big continental teams.

Because with the loan to buy option the agreed fee is usually an over inflated to allow for a good seasons fluctuation (ie Vittinha and Ran) . We were already paying £35m for Fabio so with an agreed fee it probs would have been nearer £50m! Also it will be because the club was wise enough to know that Fabio was a long term investment and as such was never expected to shine this season, it only seems to be our fans that don't get that to be honest! 🙈.

Take care everyone. This Indian strain of C.V. is not going to be pretty: (.

Seems, Bullysboy, Fabio Silva's value, rather than the lofty high of £50 mill as you suggest, is a mere £22.5 according to Transfermarket. 😉.

It might well be Belfast but they weren't selling him, Porto were and I suspect there estimation on his potiential value would have been somewhat more steep as the selling club! To be honest Belfast you've kind of made my point for me fella, Vitinha value on Transfermarket is £5.4m yet our agreed fee is said to be £20m! 👍.

Being worth £22.5m after just 12 months is an excellent return. We all know he wasn't a £35m player in day 1 but to now be 2/ 3rds of his purchase price after not even a full season is brilliant I think. He is going to be a top top player.
