Stop me if I'm wrong here, but if we beat Sheffield Utd. next week (1) we're guaranteed PL safety (2) Sheffield United will be relegated?
I know statistically, we're safe, but not mathamentically.

I think you're correct yes as we have that game in hand over Fulham too.

Not quite. Sheff U are down if we beat them and Newcastle and Brighton gain 1 more point as they can only get a max of 32 points.
Likewise, safety us not guaranteed as both Baggies and Fulham could get more than the 41 points we'd have if they won all their games.

Cheers Jas! I’m just looking at the table again, WBA have Southampton tonight, should they be beaten they have seven games left leaving a max. of twenty one points available.
I find it hard to see where Fulham’s next win is coming from - and I have an odd suspicion that the Baggies may win a game or two.

Yes Fulham can still take 18 points for a total of 44 and Albion can still take 24 points to reach 45 a win against Sheff U whenever it is played would put us on 41. However the stats for the last 25 seasons suggest 38 points would have secured safety 19 times, a 76% chance if I' ve calculated correctly.

I don't like statistical numbers, I prefer mathematical-safety numbers. Bearing in mind WHU got relegated on 41 points. We really need to win against S. United, Burnely, and the Baggies. Seven or six points from those would see us right.
I'm not as worried as I was last week regarding safety. I would go as far as to say as I never considered in August 2020 that the game against Fulham could've even been considered as a PL survival "must-win"

Debs you would have been correct then as our game agaisnt Fulham wasn't a 'must win' for survival! I do wonder what table some of the you on here are looking at?! Fulham have won 3 matches since the start of this calender year and one of those was against Sheff Utd! The three that are down there now will go down and we will remain as we have most the season, confortably sat in a mid table mediocrity! 🤣
It would seem for some that we have not been in a relegation battle for SO long that they've forgotten what they look like, a nice problem to have me thinks! 🙄.
