Was going through list of good officials tonight and one name kept popping up on how good she is at officialating matches Sian Massey-Ellis.
I think she would be pretty good in a referee role what do you guys think?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Mar 2021 21:46:26
She makes very few mistakes Rated. Been impressed with her from the start. What does our exref think?

07 Mar 2021 23:15:29
Didn’t she make a big boo-boo flagging for offside with defenders stopping playing and attackers continuing and scoring a goal and then the goal stands cause she was wrong and either way she shouldn’t be flagging till the move was finished under the new system. you can call me sexist but I think women should stick to officiating in women’s soccer and men in men’s, keep it simple.

07 Mar 2021 23:51:11
Tbf I think all oficials have made a big boo boo in their careers.

08 Mar 2021 06:45:11
I'm with Whackattack I like to see it as being a traditionalist rather than sexist.

{Ed077's Note - well that is sexist if you ask me. I don't think it should matter at all whether the ref is a male or a female, the only thing that should count is whether the game is being reffed well or not. If a woman is doing a good job then I am more than happy to see her be a part of the game even in men's football

08 Mar 2021 07:35:01
Apologies ed077 I have no problem with the lady lineswomen/ referee she is just as good as her Male colleagues.
I typed before thinking.
It is first thing monday morning no excuse I know for sexist comments.

08 Mar 2021 09:07:18
It does matter when she gets surrounded by 8 or 10 6ft tall men and finds herself intimidated into making wrong decisions, very little respect in the game of football for refs, if it was more like the rugby culture I’d have no problem but until that happens I think men are needed to keep men in check.

08 Mar 2021 09:48:42
That says more about the males and their attitude than it does of Massey. She is one of the top officials in the country. It does not matter what her sex is. She should be judged on her talent and talent alone. Didn't Stefanie Frappart ref the UEFA Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea in 2019. She did really well and was praised.

{Ed077's Note - well it doesnt matter if the ref is a guy or a gal if he/she gets intimidated by having players surround them. If you cant handle the pressure and make correct decisions more often than not then it doesnt matter that you pee out of a d!ck.

08 Mar 2021 10:13:08
A few years back someone I knew had their son at adults rugby game and whilst in their dressing rooms before game their manager said the ref wants a word before you go out and in walked the female ref to lay down a few rules. At the end the captain said what shall we call you during the match to which she replied maam or miss anything else and your off. They said it's the best ref they've ever had so this male for males and women for women is utter rubbish. They can do just as good a job and be as tough. It's players rolling about on the floor we need to sort out and not female refs.

08 Mar 2021 10:18:32
Exactly Ed. Gender should not be a barrier.

08 Mar 2021 11:47:25
Tbf whackattack mate when that man city player put his arm around she held her own really well, I think she would probably put those players in their place.

{Ed077's Note - what about the eds on here? Do we have to be of a certain gender to edit the posts?

08 Mar 2021 13:23:56
Don't understand why that's on my post Ed077 mate but gender should never be a issue in any role.

{Ed077's Note - because that Idiot hasnt posted back.}

08 Mar 2021 13:24:36
Sorry ED077 I misread your reply and thought it was at me lol.

{Ed077's Note - No worries.

08 Mar 2021 14:23:17
Just to add a bit more controversial content, what about mixed male female in a football team. I am not sexist in any way shape or form, let’s have your honest input because the day will come.

08 Mar 2021 14:27:24
There are some excellent female referees and the increased interest and sponsorship that has gone into women’s football has also helped the development of female referees as the WSL has grown and constantly improved. Referees training at the highest level has also improved beyond recognition with technology playing a more prominent part. There should be no reason why the top female referees can’t officiate at the highest levels. Experience is required, of course, and that includes spending time as an assistant. It’s a totally different and difficult job. What supporters have to remember is that to get to the Premier League or the FIFA list takes a long time and lots of experience. I would welcome our first Premier female referees and hope Ellis makes that history she deserves it . Let’s hope the idiots on social media don’t spoil it all with the recent death threats etc making the authorities think twice. Of course Sian was involved in the controversy when Andy Grey and Richard Keyes were taken to task. As a professional referee since 2010 and on FIFA since 2011 she should be congratulated. I wish her luck!

08 Mar 2021 15:00:27
Norfolk I think mixed matches over the age of 11 is banned by FA rules or tgats what we were told when I was at school in the 70's, its to do with the physical contact aspect of the game, or that's what we were told.

08 Mar 2021 15:29:52
Thanks Arddunby didn’t know that, but the game is becoming non contact is it not. So maybe it’s just another drip feed until it becomes the. “ the so called Normal “
I am so cynical, . thanks again.

08 Mar 2021 18:57:18
Whats- if you went to hospital with an emergency I'm guessing you just sit there bleeding out waiting to be seen by a male then?! I suppose at least if you do it would be a nice dose of Darwinism at its best! 🤣
What a load of nonsense and how VERY depressing that on Women's Day we STILL have some fans stuck in the dark ages! 🤮.

{Ed001's Note - it is bizarre that anyone cares about this stuff. They would rather have crap like Lee Mason refereeing because he has the right bits between his legs, rather than someone with the right bits between their ears! Sad really.}

08 Mar 2021 20:10:12
It’s bad enough listening to the likes of Karen carney commentating on games I personally think it’s best if men and women stay separated like every other sport, I think women refs in men’s game would just lead to more controversy, every new thing they try to bring in takes a bit more away from the game and I think they should leave it be as we have enjoyed it our whole lives. I would like better quality refs alright there’s no disputing they make a lot of mistakes, big difference in being a ref and a linesperson though. that Man City incident was prime example that male players will act differently with a female ref, plus the fact that a male player can put an arm on a male ref in a friendly manner and nobody even notices (unless it’s aggressive obviously) but because she was female there was more made out of it. we want football not drama at the end of the day.

{Ed001's Note - yes we get it, you are a bit backwards Whacker. There was only something made of the Man City incident because of misogynistic people who live in the 1950s. Players should not be touching the officials anyway, whether they are male or female and it was a directive that anyone doing so should be shown a yellow card at one point.}

08 Mar 2021 20:36:00
Seriously dude you're coming across as sexist Karen Carney is actually very good on commentary unlike that droining soso Macca.

08 Mar 2021 20:52:20
I didn't know it was womens day but now I do I will pay tribute to one of our own.
The first female commentator on MOTD,
From Codsall the one and only,
Jaque Oatley.
I watched the darts last night as to why it's in my mind I int no Sheridan Cooper.

08 Mar 2021 21:02:09
Lol I told you lol. its Sheldon Cooper (big bang theory)

08 Mar 2021 21:28:39
Rated mate he's coming across as a sexist because he is one! The YEARS of woeful commentary I've sat through on MOTD and your really citing that as an example?! I remember one time when Newcastle had signed Hatem Ben Arfa and he scored on his debut on the post match that night Shearer ACTUALLY said 'I don't know if he scored many goals previously cause I haven't looked him up' I mean that's literally your job mate! Oh and it was a Newc player so it's not like he didn't have an interest. Now try watching Alex Scott, she's my new favourite pundit! She does her research why well probably because that's her job. Sadly I suspect she does her research about three times over because she just knows that if she confused the players/ situations then dinosaurs like you would be just cueing up to pile in! I have to ask what's do you have any young girls in your life (daughter, granddaughters, nieces)? I'm not getting personal but if so then I have to ask how do you sit with that approach?! How do you tell a 7 year old girl who's full of passion after her first game 'no that jobs not for you love, you need to have a willy to do that! Now back to ya kitchen before you get anymore of these dangerous dreams above ya station'
I also can't help but LOVE the irony in that you've come onto another clubs page to say 'we want football not drama' if that's the case buddy back off to ya own page and stop stirring the pot! You can't have it both ways 🤣.

08 Mar 2021 21:57:26
It’s a bit unfair to say I’m backwards because I prefer male commentators and think the men’s game should be officiated by men, it’s just an opinion and everyone is entirely to 1 without people resorting to name calling just cause they don’t agree, I think it’s great we have women’s leagues everyone should have equal platform and they should get lots of funding and lots of exposure as they are professionals also, but women’s football does not have the same following as men’s does and that’s not sexist that’s just fact, it’s very rare on these pages that the women’s game is discussed, the u23’s barely get a look in on most pages I visit, there probably will come a day when we have female refs and it won’t affect the following of the league in any way whatsoever, if they start mixing men and women in teams I could see that affecting it in a big way but I don’t think that will ever happen, I don’t know of any contact sport where teams are mixed, correct me if I’m wrong. football is getting less contact every year but it’s still physical and male players would hold to much advantage in terms of strength and speed on an average basis, I know there are women that might be faster and stronger than their male counterparts but I’d guess it would be more of a minority.

{Ed001's Note - if you are gong to display backward thinking, expect to be called out and not whine like a small child about it. If you don't like it, I really don't care. I find your views offensive and backward, and I am not going to pretend otherwise because you are too precious to cope with your offensive misogyny being disagreed with.}

08 Mar 2021 21:58:44
Ps- btw well done Rated for asking the question, wish I had to be honest! I'm not sure if it was intended but the WHOLE point in Women's days is to 'challenge' peoples thinking. As usual fella your post has definitely succeeded there 👍.

08 Mar 2021 22:25:04
I have an 8 year old daughter and she plays with other 8 year old girls, also have a 5 year old son who in my daughters eyes is to rough for her playing football, I wouldn’t be encouraging either of my kids to get into reffing to be honest it’s a thankless job and nothing other than criticism directed at them no matter the outcome of a game there’s always someone not happy. I’ve being visiting here for the past few months and I’ve yet to see a debate about ladies football, same on Leeds page, same on the villa page for the few years I’ve being watching it or posting on it. just seems like the pc brigade is out tonight, maybe you should change your club emblem to a kitten in support of women’s rights in men’s sports, just an idea.

{Ed001's Note - because Wolves can't be female and all kittens are? Embarrassing, you just dig yourself in deeper each time.}

08 Mar 2021 22:34:11
Ed I just have no interest in women’s football, I’ve watched some World Cup games that’s about it, I’ve supported villa since I was 9 years old and hand on my heart I cannot to this day name 1 female player that ever played for us, it just don’t interest me, like cricket doesn’t but I wouldn’t be called backward for saying I’ve no interest in it. hardly call it whining mate we’re having a discussion and we disagree I haven’t insulted anyone or said anything personal. if I were backward I’d say women’s place is at home minding kids and cleaning the house but that’s ridiculous, my missus works 5 days a week and I’m a retained firefighter so I’m home quiet a lot I’ve practically reared both my kids and kept our house this last 8 years and have no problem in admitting my missus earns more than me.

08 Mar 2021 22:36:18
Got nothing against female officials or pundits. The best ones are the ones you don't really notice. Saying that, I don't rate Massey. Karen Carney knows her stuff but her voice does my head in, in the same way as the Neville.

08 Mar 2021 22:37:06
Female wolves are called she-wolves and most girls would prefer kittens.

08 Mar 2021 23:02:44
Yes Bullys mate it was a bit intended to do with IWD, also agree about Alex she is a fantastic commentator, one of the main pundits on NBCsports is female too Rebecca Lowe very good at what she does too.
No PC brigade @ Wackattack the fact is the game is evolving and moving with the times and we are getting officials of both sexes.
As for your question about mixed football teams it's already happening in places like Brazil. It will grow too because it's the 21st centuray not the 17th.
Also a fun fact the Alpha of the wolf pack is mostly female only 1 alpha in 50 is male, food for thought there.

09 Mar 2021 09:39:16
Just a fact Wolf packs have an alpha male and an alpha female, and generally these 2 are the only ones that mate to ensure the pack stay strong,
We all have opinions so let’s respect all or risk being called a bigot.

09 Mar 2021 10:28:52
Hear hear Norfolk everyone has the right to an opinion or preference it doesn’t make them bad ppl, nobody’s opinion is wrong in this debate as they are just opinions, things like this will never be down to us the fans to decide, it will all come down to the money makers at the end of the day.

09 Mar 2021 16:05:30
You wouldn't be so fussy if the only surgeon available was a female.

10 Mar 2021 11:03:38
Please stop levelling sexism at posters it’s just a preference, I as a male certainly PREFER a Woman to examine my personal bits, let’s all get along with yes a bit of banter without pointing the finger. Do you not think we are all under tremendous pressure from C.V. related issues stay safe .

{Ed077's Note - I will call a spade a spade Norfolk. If anyone doesnt want to be called sexist or racist or a prick then dont be one.}
