I don't know if it's me being superstitious but I had a chicken dinner for my tea last night and we won.

16 Dec 2020 14:13:58
I heard it was going to happen on the radio first thing this morning, there was talk of Sam Allardyce to keep them up lol I don't think they will stay up.

16 Dec 2020 14:14:02
Got no sympathy for him, he's the sod who feigned injury and got Blanc to miss the world cup. UNFORGIVABLE.

16 Dec 2020 14:33:22
Should be world cup final.

16 Dec 2020 17:41:17
Big Sam, the Wolves fan!?!

16 Dec 2020 19:56:56
I've sold my hoover today
Well it was only gathering dust?

16 Dec 2020 20:55:40
There was one of many turns by podence last night that took three Chelsea players out and created an attack absolutely world class.
If Ronaldo or Messi would AV done that not only would they have replayed it forever. But it would AV been all over the media.
Coyw.

Greyleg; was it the one by our dugout? So quick, could hardly believe it! Pretty sure the commentators missed it. Some talent! FWAW.

16 Dec 2020 22:48:02
Haha, classic Phil I love it when stuff like that happens! I had a similar thing with a fast food chain, ended up having chicken burgers every week one season (shameless)! 🙈
So fella I hope you own a small poultry farm cause we got a lot of games to win and you now know the rules for match days! Whatever it takes buddy! 👍 COYW 🐺.

Re Podence: my particular highlight for last night was him nut megging the Chelsea £60m wonder kid (just on the half way line) pretty sure I know who got the better value there! The close second was the knock around the players while carrying it out of defence, the Chelsea players just stood and watched cause they couldn't beleieve he had the stones to do it when taking on THREE players whilst carrying the ball out of the box! I think Ardunby had a fair point, I have allowed myself to get to pessimistic moments like that and I have to remind myself where we've come from! COYW 🐺👍.

Been off line since Monday as changing broadband/ tv supplier.
So watched game tonight.
V sensible to move back to a 3 at the back and great to be on the right side of a late goal for once.
Bizarrely Chelsea are one of the sides that are set up to fit our “play on the break” style but still think this is how we should go for the next few games at least
Ratings
Patricio 5 – actually had v little to do but should perhaps have done better with goal?
Semedo 6 – the Prime commentators kept pointing out that everything that Chelsea did came down his side and he was struggling to contain them and that includes the goal. BUT for some reason he always seemed to have extra men running at him and that can't be his fault? Yes I accept that he is not great defensively. He doesn’t always position himself well or make the correct decisions often enough and for a player with a reputation as being quick he does seem to get run past a bit too easily BUT despite not being a fan I think he is probably being a little picked on by us. Others were also to blame both for the goal and even some of the other shortcomings that he is being blamed for, (Dendonker’s injury problem perhaps explaining why he was so disappointing in his support of Semedo – I know many of you also want to blame Traore but he only came onto the pitch in the 60th min), so as in the Villa game I think he deserves a higher rating than many are giving him .
Boly 5 – One of those to blame for goal – surely should have not been beaten at near post by Giroud? Did ok otherwise though but still not back to his imperious best
Coady 6 – looked far more comfortable in a 3.
Saiss 7 – solid
Marcal 7 - v solid Chelsea rarely even attempted to come down his side - presumably for a reason
Neves – 6 Best performance from him for a while – looked comfortable on the ball and wanted the ball
Dendonker 5 – Didn’t look happy and I gather he is injured
Neto 8 - superb (although it wasn’t a pen again – we need to be careful about being branded a diving team – 3 pens in a row not given- 2 correctly! )
Silva 4 – once gain barely involved. His lack of pace, mobility and strength are a worry. Matt Le Tissier was slow, static and weak but brilliant. This guy is showing no signs of being brilliant. He is getting rave reviews from some but since he barely touched the ball and was outmuscled when he did I’m far from sure what for? {Would love to hear what you are seeing that makes you think he is a Premier League player today - not interested in hearing that he will develop - he should do that elsewhere - the other (junior) Wolves sides, pre season friendlies, the league cup games, on loan at a lower level or in training sessions --- NOT IN PREM LEAGUE GAMES! }
Podence – 9 magnificent ( not sure why he was booked for being grabbed round the throat by Chilwell – who could have been booked both for not returning the ball OR violent conduct against Podence? )
Subs
Owen 6 – looks strong and contributed to the midfield battle
Traore 6 – as always needs to do more and get some end product but showed flashes (certainly can’t play both Traore and Silva together as neither do enough)

Good reading your match ratings Thefutureisoldgold 😄
I thought the chelsea header that hit the bar was one of the best jumps in the air and connection like a king salmon he was.
I only saw brief highlights both our goals were fantastic quality, neto made it look easy but everything you are taught as a kid he did ie. you know where the goal is keep your eyes on the ball and hit a clean strike.
I thought their goal Rui should of kept it out but there was other mistakes before that.
Up the wolves.

17 Dec 2020 07:46:30
Yes Preston wolf top man podence
Reminds me of hazard.

17 Dec 2020 10:26:35
That's a good comparison greyleg the potential podence has he could easily be a world beater.

Thefutureisoldgold I have changed my analogy of the Chelsea header he jumped like an African Serval cat.
I've watched it loads fortunate for us it didn't go in.

17 Dec 2020 13:59:40
Greyleg - that is the perfect comparison!
Phil - it was a great leap by Zouma - a good athlete - but it was clever play all round by them as Chilwell stood in front of Zouma stopping (legally ish) Wolves defenders getting a challenge in.
ps liked the Salmon - love the Serval. have you been watching David Attenborough? Not a Lion or Tiger but a Serval. Bet not many would have known it was a cat if you hadn't said!
Hope the chicken dinners continue to bring us luck - please don't make me have jacket spud with cottage cheese every time we play though.

17 Dec 2020 14:34:08
Ha ha yes I watched loads of programmes earlier this year when I was on furlough including all the wildlife programmes deadly 60 was one. The serval jumps in the air and catches birds in flight the leap on them is awesome.
The king salmon was from the programmes Alaska the last frontier and Yukon men.

Future-Re Silva: to answer your question fella what I see is an 18 year old that has started two league games. He shows some quality at times but in flashes, against Arsenal he held the ball up well and played others in (should of had an assist if Traore could finish) . Admittedly he was less involved against Chelsea but be fair he's playing against two VERY experienced CB for his second start. I actually don't get why people are talking about his pace so much, I don't think he's that slow I just think he plays a slower game (he seems quite clever off the ball) . The chance he put onto the post on a first time shot was an excellent effort (as were his finishes for u23s) so I think there's plenty to work with. As to your point of why can't he develop elsewhere, well I think some are missing the point of signing him and Hooever. Nuno might like small squads but there's a reason we had SUCH a small squad in Europe and its because we had very few homegrown (club) players over the age of registration. Fact is if you want to compete in Europe these days you need at least 4 players that are homegrown to the club or you forfeit those spaces you can't fill. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong here but I'm fairly certain this is why we moved things round and got Silva and Hooever into the squad. At 18 by the age of 21 both players will have the required three years at the club to qualify as homegrown to the club thus adding to our Euro quota? Oh and thanks to (sensible) changes in the rules a few years back loaning players no longer counts towards Homegrown status so if they are to get that we need to keep them at the club. If we need to keep um then they need to play (at least occasionally) in fairness to the club they thought they had it all worked out with solid senior cover (Semedo and Raul) I suspect these lads were mostly intended for sub and cup apps at least till Jan! Then Rauls injury happened and now we are were we are. I do think peeps needs a bit more patience with the youngsters (generally) we can't have it both ways and say we want to develop young talent then moan when the club makes moves to do just that! Its like Calvert-Lewin, everyone's banging on that his form has come out of nowhere but it REALLY hasn't. What we are seeing is the fruition of around three seasons of time and effort from the player and staff at Everton. He played a fair bit last season but wasn't scoring, well look at him now! Fair play to Everton and him they've earnt every bit of it (and Sheff Utd as he started there;) . that's my take on things anyway, as ever doesn't mean I'm right COYW ;)

v good and balanced post - I will respond in more detail - as I tend to when I have a moment.

Future-- cheers fella, look forward to reading the response 👍.

Despite everything you read below I am not criticising Silva or the decision to buy him, (although the fee looks v toppy for a player who obviously isn’t a generational talent or even Robbie Keane. If he was, he would be ready now and at the moment it doesn’t appear that he is), but am criticising the decision/ need to put him into the Premier League first team when he it doesn’t appear that he is ready. His age, which is not his fault, is irrelevant to that point. The league doesn’t add up your average player age and allocate bonus points at the end of the year to those teams stuffed with young unprepared players. No, they merely relegate them!
There is an 8 year’s old boy out there who one day will be formula 1 world champion but I still don’t want him learning to drive round Swiss mountain roads with my family in the back of the car.
However, BB - You make an excellent point in the 3 years under 21 for players to count as part of our homegrown quote for Europe which I hadn't considered.
Hence understand both why we signed potential, (Hoever, Silva plus RAN and Vitor – although not sure the last 2 are young enough to count for the homegrown quota) and can’t send it out on loan to develop but have to develop in house.
I agree that Hoever, (who actually looked ok in his cameos for Wolves and his handful of games for Liverpool - Vitor has actually also looked promising) and Silva were probably not expected to play much. But whilst the injury to Jimenez was obviously a bolt from the blue to have no other plan in place but to rely on a player who isn’t ready, (and unlike Hoever and Vitor he doesn’t look like he might be ready soon. I haven’t seen flashes of quality merely glimpses of competence. ), is surely v remiss of the club.
Re pace
When you were at school in a year of 60 boys there would have been a couple of boys who could run 100m in 11+ seconds a further handful who could run it in 12+ seconds, a good number who could do 13+ seconds etc etc all the way up to the half dozen or so v unathletic boys who struggled to beat 20seconds.
At Wolves we will have flyers who were in the 11+ group (Traore and maybe Neto) but most will be good athletes who were in the 12+ group (the majority of the squad) and the odd player who lacks a yard or two (like Neves, Coady or Jimenez – no shame you could for instance add Lampard to that list and he wasn’t bad)
Although I don’t know what Silva’s best 100m time is from the evidence of the last few games Silva, who seems to have a somewhat laboured loping style of run with a slow cadence, will struggle to keep up even with players like Coady – indeed when you watch games when he tries to close people down – which actually he doesn’t do very much as his standard pose is stationary (we run the least of all teams in the league and he is not going to change that any day soon – neither to be fair is Traore but he is a flyer when he wants to be) they simply run away from him – even those players who are dribbling the ball.
So yes as far as I have seen to date he is a slow mover, although not necessarily of the ball, (indeed lots of quality players move the ball v fast but can’t run – older fans will remember John Robertson of Forest who barely broke out of a walk but was a top player) . However as said before though that can be irrelevant if you have other talents.
Comparing him to Semedo, who I have also criticised {you know I hate change – although Marcal has been great} and who cost approximately the same. Semedo is currently a competent Premier league RWB for whom we merely paid a substantial premium – not the English Premium but the star struck Barcelona Premium - and that together with his replacing the seemingly (on Doherty’s performances over the last two years for Wolves not those at Spurs) the far superior Doherty has attracted, perhaps unfairly, my ire. (Did you watch on Sky tonight the 2019/ 20 season review with Doherty’s winner v City! ) But Silva today, on the admittedly sparse evidence from the handful of games he has played so far does not appear to be a competent Premier League player.
I accept the reasons why we signed him and are keen to develop the talent the scouts must have seen in him but that can’t be in the first team as we simply aren’t strong enough to either carry a player who doesn’t appear to be ready or even to give him game time to find out if he is. In the Wolves team he has to hit the ground running and be ready to contribute from the start. Until the coaches are confident that is the case he shouldn’t be exposed to things he can't cope with for both his and the team's own good.
Ps re Calvert Lewin he was 2 years older than Silva is now when he broke into the Everton side and in his first year he had 12 goals and assists in circa 21 games. That went up to 13 in 20 games, then 14 in 29 before this year becoming a real star player.
So you are correct they have developed him and it hasn’t been an overnight success but even in his first year he was contributing nicely. Do you really see Silva getting 12 goals and assists in the next 18 games? If he does then everything will be great but if he doesn’t then Neto and Podence better be on fire as we don’t get a lot of goals/ assists elsewhere particularly now we have lost Doherty
V V sorry for this long rant and appreciate the considered response you gave to my previous missive on the young lad.
Lets hope he gets a brace at Burnley!

Future-- all fair and well made points fella. Couple things I would say is that I agree re:bad planning by the club to cover Raul, think we all know how we've struggled for a decent second striker since he arrived in the Prem. I think what's added to this problem is that Raul has been somewhat indestructible until now which I think has lulled the club into the false sense of safety in bringing an 18 year old as his only other option. I do rate Silva but (ironically) I do actually agree that the front line shouldn't be on his shoulders at this stage. One other point I would make is that I think cause he's Portuguese and hadn't started much before some may be under estimating how much of a generational talent Fabio is seen to be on the continent! I only know cause I'm a sad individual that spends FAR too much of my life on Footy Manager 🙈 but this kid really is seen as one of the brightest young talents around right now, most of the biggest clubs were said to be tracking him (including Madrid)! As ever time will tell, personally I'm happy with playing youngsters as long as I can see improvements happening. Only time will tell on that front. Like you say fingers crossed for a performance/ result against Burnley! Happy days COYW 👍🐺.
