Semedo seems to be this seasons scapegoat. Give him a break. There are plenty of others you could point the finger at last few games, and it was a very dubious pen today. All about Mike Dean, as usual, got nearly every free kick, and card wrong, for both teams. Just wanted a bit more attention at the end!

Agree0 Disagree0

Always the same Tettenhall mate there has to be a scapegoat imo the buck lies with Nuno he picks the team, tactics etc but i'm not going to slate him for it.

MR Dean just loves being the centre of attention when I saw MR Dean was ref I was like we'll see at least 9 cards.

Need to cash in on Adama, to aid investing in 2 or 3 of the following ; Solanke, McNeill, Cantwell, Brooks, Christie, Nketiah, RLC! Wolves Women back in action today, u23s v boggies, tomorrow FWAW.

Well we are where we are, after two good seasons, We need to accept that we are now a midtable team this season, we have not got the players too challenge top six.

Mid table won't be that bad this season, It's the expectations we had over the last two years, lack of goals has always been a problem.

Unless something remarkable happens in the Jan window, we don't have the money, Liverpool have not paid us for Jota yet. So it is what it is we will win some and lose some end of.

Semedo played well but did allow McGinn to get wrong side of him. Once in the box it was inevitable that he would slow and draw a touch on the back of his leg. Ball was there to be cleared earlier in the move, when Moutinho had the ball on the edge of the penalty area. Failure to do so allowed Villa to recycle and create the opening. if you watch those few moments you will see McGinn run on outside of Grealish to receive the pass. Traore runs first couple of yards with him then stops, forcing Semedo to try to get to McGinn.
Thought there were positives however. Netto, Podence and Silva carried a threat. Silva’s touch was really good and he moved the ball quickly. First real opportunity to see his potential and I, for one, was impressed. All three of them need better service however as they are creating most of the chances themselves.
Would like to see us revert to three centre backs against Chelsea as we look more secure with that set-up. Given that all our teams at all levels play that system, it seems irrational for first team to abandon it.

We Actually were not that bad if we had taken our chances, but its the same problem we do not can you ever see us scoring 3/ 4 goals, Fabio was unlucky not to score he will get better given time.
Semedo will have yo live with his 36 mill price tag.

Kilman, Boly need to be in the team, think Nuno is a bit lost at present, bur he has not got much choice.

Chelsea will be difficult given they lost to Everton.

I agree that we should cash in on Traore. If does ever become able to hit a barn door, he will move on of his own accord for a bigger pay packet.

Some interesting points, Semedo 3 sounds harsh, I didn't actually see the game but a Villa fan who I know well reckoned Semedo gave Grealish his quitest game of the season so far.

I just can't understand those who say we've bought inferior players in this season. We sold 2 1st teamers - Jota and Doherty. Podence has replaced Jota and done well. We replaced Doherty with a player from Barcelona, yeah that's right, Barcelona who at the end of last season stated that Semedo was not for sale but had to because they're skint. Jonny gets injured so we signed a Champions League semi finalist. We also signed one of the hottest prospects in world football. We have the players. We just haven't found the right system to help them flourish.

Jas don't disagree with the vast majority of your underlying thesis but think you might be a tadge optimistic about the final outcome.

Podence is far superior to the 2019/ 20 Jota - not necessarily the Liverpool Jota or even previous Wolves incarnations but we weren't seeing them when he was sold and we have discussed Marcal v Johhny (not a lot in it although I prefer Johhny) and Semedo v Doherty (As a RWB Semedo will be ok if not quite as good as Doherty - not sure that the fact he played at Barcelona is as important as many seem to think but for this debate my view is irrelevant) previously
Given we have also seen huge strides forward from Neto and Kilman everything should indeed be ok.

But clearly it isn't.
Whilst you are not crazy in saying that as a result of the transfers listed above we are not a lot worse - pre Jimenez injury anyway - several other things have happened that are negatively impinging on us.

Obviously the injury to Jimenez ( you mention the "prospect" - which he may be but he is not as yet the replacement and given just how vital to our system Jimenez was this is a major problem), the fact that most other teams in the summer transfer window didn't just stand still or go backwards slightly but in fact went forwards sharply ( we really did have a dreadful transfer window relative to other teams particularly when you consider how much we spent as we only (partially) solved the problems that we had created ourselves by selling Doherty or were unlucky in Otto being injured and did not make progressive signings to improve the first team - a new AM or a RCB or outside of the first xi a back up CF - who were ready to play now not prospects for 2022 as Vitor, Hoever and Silva appear designed to be), the loss of form of various players (the entire midfield and Boly and to a lesser extent Coady for example - note we have played badly since the return from lockdown so its not a surprise that certain players are looking below their best at the moment) and the fact that we seem to have lost our identity (changing personnel, formations and tactics seemingly in a random fashion these last few weeks) .

Your last sentence is therefore definitely correct and in my view we desperately need to go back to 3 at the back and gain some degree of control and start again!
Sorry to be both negative and controversial but finding the retreat from where we were before lockdown quite depressing and given the current form and next few fixtures worrying.

Surely I haven't waited 50 years to see it all go pop again have I?
