I Wonder what Jack Taylor probably the best Referee in the world would make of Var.
Had a butchers shop in Wolverhampton.
He was strict on the field but fair, respected by all players, didn't stand for any stupidity.
I remember he gave a penalty in the first 5 mins to Holland v Germany World cup final no messing.
Some of you will not have seen him, in the 60/ 70's.
If todays officials were ONLY half as good as Jack it they would be ok. But I guess Jack would not have stood for this Var rubbish.

Likewise, I wonder if the likes of Ron Harris, Kevin Muscat, Norman Hunter etc would have made it as a player nowadays. Seems that FIFA want football to become a non contact sport.

It made me laugh reading your post Kevin Muscat I think in today's game he would of been sent off every match.

If the opposition hurt a wolves player in those days Eddie Clamp would make sure to get him, Saw him him when Vic Groves (Arsenal) downed our player, Eddie just walked over to him a dropped him with a head butt, and Eddie stayed on the field. Ref played on.
Showing my age now.

Hey yellowstone looks like you were a member of the Eddie Clamp appreciation society, good for you, the good old days.

Yes Noddy, And don't forget he played for England 4 times,
England halfback line was Clamp, Wright Flowers.
Think only Ron Flowers left of that team, sadly he has dementia, he was a strong classy player.
The enjoyment is is now not good anymore with these stupid rules.

True story: my sister got off the bus opposite our house and went to cross the road walking behind the bus. Hit by a car, as she stepped out in to oncoming traffic. Fortunately van involved just glanced her but resulted in a broken leg. Distraught driver was none other than a long retired Eddie Clamp. Not sure if it was the only leg break of his career but probably the last.

Mr. Clamp was very good at showing opposition players the error of their ways shall we say. He did to be fair hit some back first! Just in case. 😁.
