So the politics and greed within football raise their head again with FIFA proposed take over of European top level football with the European Super League.
This proposal would increase costs for supporters and clubs. How many true supporters would be able to afford travel to away games?
The cost for clubs would be astronomical.
Obviously costs of spectators at games and the cost of tv subscription would go through the roof.
Top clubs would be able to attract the best players leaving others further behind .
Not a breakaway league but would it mean reserves playing in national leagues leaving the big boys for this new league.
In the middle of a C.V. a £5 billion debt to launch a new league when lower league clubs are struggling is ridiculous!

Unfortunately its going to happen. if it happens there has to be transparent relegation and promotion but there will probably be a block on it happening. Liverpool and Man Utd are selfish, greedy spoilt brat clubs who think the football world revolves around them. Likewise Madrid and Barcelona in Spain.

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new about this and it is nothing to do with FIFA proposing to take over.}

Ed-Depends how you view semantics. Correct FIFA are not proposing to take over, but it is FIFA backed, so somewhere in the mix they have involvement.

{Ed002's Note - you have been misinformed

So if I am misinformed why is it currently being reported as I have just said on Sky?

SQ you are correct it is FIFA backed.
Ed02 there has always been political problems between UEFA and FIFA and UEFA top brass had press conferences over the years highlighting disagreements. From what I understand 2018 press conference regarding Super League was one I recall.
Maybe you could explain why FIFA would wish to interfere with the UEFA governing bodies area of responsibility ie European Competition?

Having been involved at football league level prior to Premier League formation I can certainly confirm political disagreements within football are common.

{Ed002's Note - I am sorry but this is nonsense. The plan has come from the United States with a sports businessman raising underwritten funds through a bank that has used the Liverpool owners to try and get the idea off the ground as opposed to the “elite” sides forming a pan-European breakaway league. They organised a meeting to meet with some clubs in Paris during January. There have been approaches to UEFA and FIFA to try and open discussions but there is no backing. It seems rather pointless to provide details here. I have explained about it repeatedly on other pages over the past year - and the bigger proposals for many, many years.}

This Super League idea has been around a long time. No doubt prompted by the big clubs greed when they saw such big earnings could be created by more regular games amongst Europe's elite. I don't recall such a big backer before though, and there does seem to be a lot of smoke at the moment.

In my opinion the European Premier League, or whatever it's called, will never happen. For one thing, we already have the Champions League! I hear also that the proposed league is probably in breach of EU law. It is a non-starter, wet-dream, by greedy Yanks who don't understand the pyramid structure in football. It's the pyramid that creates competition via promotion and relegation. A no-relegation European league would just be a league of meaningless friendlies between billionaire clubs strutting around Europe.
