The laws of football state that there is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from a goal kick, a corner kick, or a throw-in. How can VAR change that.
Neto took the corner to Jota who wa s judged offside. The denial of Wolves goal vs Leicester was just plain wrong surely. Am I wrong?

Yes you are wrong the offside was Neto receiving the ball back coming back from a offside postion after taking the corner.

Well Neto certainly wasn, t offside if you look at the video lines. Bizarre.

To clarify, if a ball is pssed backwards to another player, it is not offside. Jota passed the ball backwards to Neto. Utter rubbish. I am a qualfied referee.

Agreed Mike, my pal who sits next to me is a ref and said exactly that. But according to Halsey in one of the dailies, he came from a offside position so passing ball back irrelevant.
They just interpret the rule to suit don't they.

16 Feb 2020 18:56:15
Well I think that is rubbish. what is our game coming to a bunch of poser referees who think they are bigger than the game?

16 Feb 2020 19:46:55
Posers? Yes
Oh and None of them are good enough or fit enough for FIFA referees yet they can dictate what the richest league in the can and cannot do.
The fans and money men are irrelevant.

The rule now is that if even if the ball is passed back to you and you are in an offside position you are offside. Neto’s heal was offside so by the letter of the law it was offside. It was actually good defending by Leicester as they all moved out together. No ref or linesman would have spotted it and as it was not a clear and obvious refereeing mistake there was no need for var to investigate and the goal should have stood.

You need precision technology to spot Neto was offside by about 1cm. And it took a few minutes for VAR to work this out. How players are meant to keep to rules like this in a free flowing game is beyond me.

Us and Sheffield United suffered the most from VAR. Could be coincidence but who are the two upstart teams in the top half of the table?
