Every club wants to get their transfer business done early, yet every window sees teams scrabbling to get a deal over the line in the last few minutes before the deadline expires. Everyone on the outside is left wondering why.

Well for a start the players agent usually wants to keep all options open as long as possible, hoping that a Champions League team can be tempted to make a bid for a bigger signing on fee, wage and agents fee.

Then the selling club wants to hang on for the best fee as well as having their own irons in the fire looking for a replacement before they let their current player go.

Meanwhile the buying club will not want to be restricted to one go at the raffle. They will have several irons in the fire because the chances are your first couple of actions will fall flat. When making a bit they will never offer what is being asked and they will not want to pay it all up front. So they will offer a package and the selling club will keep doing the rounds with the other interested clubs till the best package is pushed over the line.

Of course there is then the chance that you get a Danny Loader situation where the selling club change their mind. Or the player fails a fitness test.

It's a wonder any deal gets completed.

{Ed002's Note - You can reasonably expect selling clubs to want a replacement before letting players leave.}

Doesn't that depend on the player?

{Ed002's Note - If the players are completely unwanted and they have cover, then sure.}
