A few people slate Neves but looking at the stats he is 4th in the league for most interceptions.

Rated, as in my post earlier I don't want to single him out, O just think he's had below par season, as a good few other have, his ability with dead balls and long range were superb up until this season, part of the problem has been the system, but I expected more of him, he needs to get his shooting boots back on.
O think if we get some. good reinforcements in defence he may be able to push on more next season, of he doesn't leave that is, which I hope he doesn't.

I have to be honest Rated I wouldn't have expected that, good stat 👍 I like Rueben but my only concern is that he should be getting better and I'm not sure he has since we arrived in the Prem to be honest. I still think he has plenty to give mind, I just worry that he seems to have got a little too comfortable. Not all his fault in fairness as he's been given little to no comp for places since we moved Saiss into the back line. The stats he needs to work on is that 1 assist (which is also his 1 through ball) . He needs to be taught to look up and ping it a little quicker/ direct and that needs to be with his second touch! He did it for fun in the Champ but there's SO much less time for cms these days in the Prem (everyone seems to play the high press since Klopp arrived:)
Like most the squad if he's still here next season then it needs to be a big one. I think we are going to have to focus on whos going to be there next to him as sadly time is finally catching up with Moutinho. Hope he stays on and joins the coaching staff, such a class act! Probably the closest thing I've seen to a World Class player in our colours in my life time! Now how to replace him?! 😭.

All - Agree with all points.
Still think Neves is a v solid player - although his free kicks have been awful this year - but would like him (and the rest of the team) to get fitter/ sharper for next year so that his skill and quality on the ball can impose itself on games.
Nuno designed a system that protected our lack of athleticisim, (we surely are the slowest/ least athletic team in the league), with a structure that didn't require either much running or lots of pressing. However as our team has evolved and some of its core components have either aged ( Moutinho) or left (Doherty) we are both being found out and are trying to change without the required physical attributes. This has contributed to the struggles we have seen this year. I have just watched Leeds run all over Burnely who like many teams, West Ham in both games comes to mind, were far too strong/ fit/ fast for us - bizarrelly we did the double over Leeds? - and couldn't but be impressed at what pace and power can do.
Either we revert to the old system or we have to upgrade the physicallity of the squad either with new players or fitter existing ones. Neves woud defintely be one of those for me though!

I think Neves needs to take all dead ball free kicks. Moutinho has taken over the roll and Neves looks very rusty when he does have an opportunity from 25 yards. The main issue to be addressed though is short corners. How many do we try every game that don't work. N.
