Alright Ed001 I assume you are from liverpool so just wanted to post my 2 times at liverpool with wolves.
When I was a kid growing up in the 80's liverpool were the best mostly on the once a week live game. I always dreamt one day I will experience the crowd all the flags in the kop the never walk alone song. I got my wish when Mick Mccarthy was wolves manager. we won the game 0-1 Stephen ward scored and standing/ sitting next to me was Stephen Wards dad. it was awesome everything I dreamed of as a kid was exactly how I thought it would be. The liverpool fans we spoke to before and after the game were really sound people.
The second time at Anfield was fosuns 1st year Lambert was manager and we won 1-2 in the fa cup.
When weimann scored our 2nd goal I could not see where my brother was from all the wolves fans going crazy in jubilation when I finally saw where my brother was he was 5 or 6 rows back from where our seats was horizontal on top of the crowd, crowd surfing it was fantastic. the game was an early afternoon kick off and our train wasnt till 7PM so we had a booze around liverpool I met Cilla Black lol her statue outside the famous cavern club I think it's called the cavern. we had a few hours in there as my brother is into music.
Liverpool it was like being on holiday where all the bars are.
Posted my memories as we play liverpool the weekend.
🤝.

{Ed001's Note - that's great Phil, I would love to say I am happy you got to enjoy the trips but I am too gutted that we lost to you both times!

The Cavern was owned by Tommy Smith for a long while, after it went broke etc.

By the way, not really the Cavern, but as your brother is into music and it does have a tenuous connection to the Cavern he might like this story. Me grandad was always involved in the club scene in the area, from before those days, as he was a stand up comedian/ventriloquist/magician. His best friend from school was a certain Ken Dodd and my grandad organised a big event with a local event organiser to raise funds for the ambulances. Doddy, of course, topped the bill, but the interesting part is the group at 10th on the bill, a little known band called The Beatles. They were due to play before the interval, then do a second set after the interval, but they were so bad on their first set, Doddy said there would be no one left for him to talk to if they went back on. So they sent them packing early and they headed off to do another show elsewhere later on instead. My uncle still has a copy of the bill from the event which has been signed by Doddy, the Beatle that left (something Best, I forget what) and Paul McCartney, who made a point of circling their billing at 10 and writing "not very good billing!!" by it.}

That's Brill Ed I will show my brother your post.
My bro was a bass guitar player back in the day in his local band.
I asked if I could be backing singer or play the tambourine or triangle I can not put on here what they all said but it ended with off.
When we were both there my brother loved it.
Speaking to the liverpool fans they were friendly but really hated Manchester utd.

{Ed001's Note - that's worrying when they won't even let you play the triangle, that's usually what you give to the guy who wants in put it is useless.

Yeah Man Utd does have a special place in the pantheon of hatred, alongside Maggie Thatcher, in Liverpool.}

Lol Ed I'm not ashamed to admit I'm totally tone deaf.
My thing was playing football my dad played football and also into his music.
Have a good day pal back to the grindstone for me.

{Ed001's Note - nothing to be ashamed of, I was never musical either, that's why the world invented DJs, so even those of us who can't make music of our own can get involved by picking the best of other people's.

Take care mate, have a great day.}

My only time to visit Anfield, the season after we went up in the play offs, lost to a hypia header late on if I can recall, brilliant atmosphere that day, pool fans giving ince plenty of stick I recall, brilliant evening after with my dad and brother, drinks, meal and banter.

Tibbsywolf - that is my only game at Anfield as well. It was v v late goal and we had played ok.
As I only saw the ground that day I took wife to Liverpool for weekend away a few years ago and have to say I loved it.
We stayed in the Prem Inn on Albert dock and did the museums, the Cathedrals and a walking tour of the city that went underground to see the old docks before the shopping centre was built etc etc. The "Terracotta Warriors" from China were at one of the museums and were great but the "Museum of Slavery" was the best. We ran out of time to see everything, (missed the Liverpool Museum and the Cavern! ) and would def recommend a long weekend in the city to anyone - really interesting.

ps Phil hope all ok - (your comment in thread below) and loved your memories of Wolves (v v rare) wins at Liverpool.
On that subject I didn't go myself but a work colleague took some foreign relation of his who knew nothing about British football to the game in 84.
Wolves got relegated that year and Liverpool won pretty much everything but amazingly a young lad called Steve Mardenborough scored his only ever Wolves league goal in a 1-0 win and my colleague's relative was apparently convinced my colleague had got the teams the wrong way round!

Ed001 I shown my brother your story and he loved it and said nice 1.
Lol my brother told me he saw Ken Dodd at the Civic in Wolverhampton and Ken Dodds set went on and on till 1 am in the morning and had to get a taxi home as his car was locked in at the multi storey car park.

😀.

{Ed001's Note - I can believe it. Doddy would keep going so long as the audience were laughing and it was very rare you stopped laughing while Doddy was in full flow. He was the best comedian of all time imo. He is also partly responsible for the sites being started as he would always badger me to get into computers when I was a kid.}

Sound mate it's a pleasure to read your story and for you to read mine.
All the more so with this C.V. not being able to get out and about living your life meeting and talking to new people.
Respect for the brilliant Ken Dodd for how funny he was and for badgering you to get into computers.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Phil, it is always good to chat with you mate.}

Phil no worries
I must admit that despite jokingly saying we would be told off for all the talk about walking in different places etc I really enjoy all the non football stuff [ED 001 - loved your tales of Ken Dodd - used to watch his tv show with the diddy men when I was a kid! ] we talk about on here as much the footie.
I love travelling around the UK (and elsewhere) either to see a game or just visit and this last year - which was my first of retirement - has been pretty tough for all of us and I haven't been able to do much at all so hearing about different places (and old memories - the Steve Kindon thread! } has been great and has helped me to get by. I have noted all the advice and its gone into my checklists of places to visit - def want to see Buxton and have already started the planning of a trip round the entire coast line of Wales - have friends in a couple of places in S Wales and N Wales looks great with all the castles.
My dad said you needed 3 things to be happy (and travel which he loved although most of his travel was in the army before I was born and def wasn't a holiday! } time, money and health.
When you are young at school you have time ( long holidays) and health but no money.
When you are at work you have money and health but no time
and when you are old you have money ( although at moment not so sure about that! ) and time but your health goes.
Hence dad said the years 65-75 were the best of his life as he had all 3 before his health gave out.
I retired hoping for the same and then came the virus so talking to you guys about wolves and other stuff is one of the things that I have replaced travel/ life with.
Despite the different views we have I love hearing peoples opinions and always try to be open to views - I gave ratings for the players in the last game and was hoping others would either do the same or comment at least.
I read many of the other sites and although there are more posters and more active posters on most of them and they do have some v v good threads I don't like the "nasty" personal attacks on people that occur on most of the other sites so only post on here but do wish it was a more active site
anyway enough of a rant.
Hope you are still working hard and looking forward to Liverpool again this week.

{Ed001's Note - I never knew Doddy even had a TV show, must have been before my time. I just knew him as me grandad's funny best mate who kept giving me feather dusters for some reason I didn't understand at the time. It was only when I was a teenager and would travel around with my uncle (who is also a stand up comedian) and watch a lot of shows. I have seen more comics than I care to remember, but none ever could match Doddy. You would come out of a show with him in serious pain from having laughed so much and so hard.}

Ed001 and Phil. I was also at the game when Ward scored. I lived in Warrington at that time and went with a mate who unsurprisingly was a Liverpool supporter and also the designated driver. Unusually after a loss he was laughing all the way home! Why? I'd had a few beers and was having a p*** when Ward scored. Story of my life 😅🤣.

{Ed001's Note - that is why I never ever went for a pee during a game. I know that would happen to me as well. It is a bit like every woman I have ever dated always know the exact moment a goal is going to be scored and walk in front of the TV!}

Ed001 - following your stories re Ken Dodd I googled him and was surprised, particularly as you linked her to Man U!, to see that he was supposedly a big fan of Mrs T and the conservatives?
ps undoubtedly it was before your time as it was in the 60s and
pps he was indeed v funny. he was also an excellent singer by the way!

{Ed001's Note - I don't know anything of that mate, I never spoke to him about politics at all. He was the second biggest selling artist in England (in terms of music) in the 60s. Way before my time that though.}

2nd biggest selling artist! wow that is amazing. I was brought up in the 60s so do remember his music but that is impressive! Presumably the Beatles were number 1 so both Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate. It was a good era for the city.}
