Is bonatini the deadly finisher we need what do people reckon. I personally think if we sign the likes of Gallagher. then we can say goodbye to walking this league. just my opinion.

Everyone is looking for that 20+ goal a season striker in this league and to do that you either have to pay big bucks for a proven forward or you find a gem who has an exceptional season.
We need that quality proven striker and have the backing to achieve that, we can't mess about with potential as our main forward, Oliviera, Wood or Rhodes fit this mold.
I believe that we have the quality back up to score the goals we need. but we need to break the bank for that quality striker, Nunos no mug, we'll get that man.

I'd take Gallagher will score more goals than mason and dicko will do a job in the championship we know he can score in this league he did it last season with Blackburn who was assisted by Marshall who also won't walk into our team straight away cause he has a lot of decent wingers ahead of him, even if it's for just this season, let's get out of this league.
It's going to be harder to get to the prem than stay in it I'm telling you. We will be able to attract much better players if we were in it.

I don't think Leo Bonatini was ever meant to be the main man. To me he's probably a better prospect than Kevin Doyle was when first signed, but he's not going to score heaps. I reckon 12 to 15 goals a season but he will link up well and play off the main striker - who we have yet to sign. Leo will create lots of goal-scoring assists for others.

{Ed047's Note - Give the lad a chance buddy he has 1 goal in 1 league game as it stands haha.}

Just a bit of info.
Wood 27 goals
Abraham 23
Kodija 19
Kermorgant 18
Jerome 16
Assombalonga 14

What do they all have in common.?
All play for teams that didn't get promoted.
I would imagine Bonatini if selected will get 14-18 goals this season-he seems a good finisher from the very limited
time I've seen him play (he might get 30.)
Costa and Cav should get 20 between them.
Jota 6-10.
Centre halves 10 between them.
Wing backs 6/ 7.
Subs and other midfielders 15-20
That's around 70 goals or 1.5 a game. if we don't concede we'll win more than we lose.
A "20 goal a season striker" isn't essential in my opinion the way we play.

We only need 46 goals if we are going to win 1-0 every week!

In all seriousness though, I think we are going to see a lot of 1-0s this season. People talk a lot about attacking flair, but Portuguese football is based on a solid defence and lots of possession and the way we are set up indicates to me that we are going to play a lot of possession football (and that does mean sideways and backwards passing) . Add to the mix that a lot of teams will park the bus and try to stifle us as Yeovil did.

1-0 might be worth a regular bet!

1-0 will be likely if we don't sign a proven striker. But there aren't many proven strikers around at the minute. Middlesborough had 6 at the weekend and played 4 at the end and they still couldn't score. I see us conceding 30 or less goals this season. If Nuno gets the striker right we will be laughing.
Re Edwolf1 some of those estimates seemed a little bit out mate. A striker is still needed someone who needs to pre occupy 2 players and create space for our flair players cav, Costa, jota, bright and dicko and bonatini.

10 Aug 2017 16:21:44
Good strategy Edthwolf1. Must make sure we don't sign a striker who's going to knock 14 goals or more this season.

10 Aug 2017 20:01:06
I think everyone would take weekly 1-0 wins as long as we are in the mix at the sharp end of the season. UTW.

As I expected. mindless replies (euroman)
I didn't say we shouldn't sign a 20 goal a season striker. I said it's not essential.
Anewdawn-we're only playing 1 up front. And will for probably 3/ 4 of the season I would imagine. As long as Bonatini has a good touch and movement (which it looks like he has) he will occupy 2 defenders anyway because no one defends 1v1 these days.
Our flair players will make space for themselves as they're intelligent and quick.
Please tell me what numbers seem out on my goals predictions. they seem reasonable to me.

Edthewolf1.

I totally agree.

Besides, our new formation and approach allows 3 or 4 players to be in or around the box once our play has got us forward. The list of strikers to score 14+ last season is made up of lone strikers. teams reliant on one player to score the goals and resulted in not going up. The strength is on the pack.

Is an injury prone Geordie.

11 Aug 2017 08:39:15
People get carried away with a 20 goal striker. What difference is the striker getting 25 with LF/ RF both getting 10 each compared to all 3 getting 15?

11 Aug 2017 14:36:04
the term 'striker' is none existent in the NES way of things. each and every one of the 10 outfield players will be footballers first and foremost. comfortable and confident with the ball. roles will be designated only loosely within the confines of their specific area of designated operation and highly interchangeable within it. this is the learning curve that is greatly affected by the origin of recruits and in that respect, bearing in mind that the season is under way, expect a forward of continental pedigree not a striker with typical English coached attributes whose success can only be measured from such indigenous endeavours.
