With Southgate being linked with the Man Utd job, and Howe and GON now linked to replace him, should we be concerned about the possibility?

I don't think GON would leave for another club in the foreseeable future, but the national job may be a different kettle of fish.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2024 06:18:10
Wouldn't it be 'too much too soon'? Lupil?.

21 Mar 2024 07:20:16
Personally, I think the England job (if available) would be coming too soon for our manager. He hasn't even had the chance to shape the squad with his own signings yet!
ps
Love to see Southgate go to Man. U.would certainly delay the resurgence of them returning to being a top Club!

21 Mar 2024 09:32:34
I've got a funny feeling klopp may get the England job.

21 Mar 2024 14:00:13
I agree with you both, it's too soon for GON, in my opinion. But if they want an English coach there's not a lot of options.

I like having an English boss but it would be fascinating to see Klopp in charge Arddunby!

21 Mar 2024 16:51:56
Lupii, Klopp knows the English game well, he's acclimatised to the country and knows its football culture well. Not to mention being successful!

Naturally Germany would probably be of primary interest to him but looking at the 3 main English names mentioned, GON, Howe and Potter, I'm unsure they have the experience at this stage of there career.

If Klopp was English he'ld be a popular choice me thinks.

22 Mar 2024 06:48:20
Eddie howe best English candidate imo.
Klopp can't see it happening in a zillion years.

PSR Regulations

{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, PSR Regulations

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2024 18:54:59
Really useful, thank you.

{Ed001's Note - thanks Matty.}

18 Mar 2024 23:05:55
Eds,

What are the changes to FFP from this summer.

I heard a so expert say that in layman's terms, it will now be a salary cap so that a club can only spend 70% of all income on wages. Apparently all other expenditure used in the previous method has been removed.

{Ed001's Note - I am writing it as an article for you mate. It would be pointless me saying what has changed without explaining what the current PSR is. It has ended up as far too long a reply to just shoehorn in here, so I will post it as an article. That will also give the rest of the sites a chance to read it as well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Mar 2024 06:03:53
Cheers Ed.

{Ed001's Note - in case it fails to autolink: PSR Regs.

It is bloody complicated and we won't know for sure what the new PSR will be until the league AGM in June. They might even decide not to change yet! But hopefully they will go with the UEFA set up, as they have currently agreed to that. It is much simpler.}

19 Mar 2024 08:16:31
Nice one Ed.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Jas, I hope that explains it for you ok?}

19 Mar 2024 09:24:58
It does indeed Ed.

The guy on the radio yesterday was suggesting that this would more or less be a wage cap based on a clubs incoming revenue. He then used the example of Man Utd earning an average of £2 250 000 per home game from gate receipts compared to Bournemouths £330 000 gate receipts and how smaller clubs can't offer the same wages and thereby having the better players and widening the gap between the clubs at the top and bottom of the football pyramid.

I realise that there is a lot more to so it will be interesting once implemented.

{Ed001's Note - to a degree he is correct and that is certainly a problem. It requires a 'smaller' club, in terms of revenue at least, to build their revenue up to be competitive over the long term. To be honest that has always been a problem though, the only thing that has changed is the potential for a megawealthy person/consortium to buy a club and just pump money in to that club in a similar fashion to Man City. Considering how much in the way of lies comes out of that club about their revenue (and how they have a full house according to their accounts at every home game), maybe it was a door they should have closed sooner.

I would like to see a simple thing done - if an owner wants to pump money in, then they have to put the same amount in escrow that the Premier League controls in case it goes wrong. So that the Premier League could then use it to pay off debts, tax bills etc if the owner then is unable or unwilling to do so. There does need to be a way for smaller clubs to be able to have an input of money to become competitive. Just not via under the counter payments like City!}

19 Mar 2024 10:45:13
Sometimes it's easier to just accept something as it is, if rich individuals wish to bankroll football clubs then so be it. Good business lawyers and accountants will find ways to create stadium naming rights like Manchester City or Villa type lease deals anyway. So yes Ed001 you have a valid point in my opinion.

Of more concern to me is:

A the probity of the cash coming in to these clubs.

B the potential to milk a club, eg: what happened to Manchester United with the club meeting the cost of the takeover.

{Ed001's Note - there certainly is issues with the vetting process, which has allowed a man with absolutely no funding of his own (Moshiri) to buy a club when he was clearly a front for a man who, at the time, had a large chunk of another club (Usmanov). It has left Everton in serious difficulties as they are still treating Everton like they have a multi-billionaire owner, even though the real owner now has had all his funds frozen after the invasion of Ukraine. At the moment the company that is trying to buy the Toffees is paying wages etc, but the Premier League seem unlikely to pass that company (777) as fit and proper. So where on earth does that leave Everton? All the Prem had to do was investigate Moshiri probably and they would have seen he had zero in terms of real money and block him buying the club in the first place. That should be something they are looking at.

I am in full agreement that what happened to Man Utd is a disgrace, even though it was them. I do believe that rules now block anyone from buying a club in the same way, thankfully.}

20 Mar 2024 06:35:33
Ok. If I'm reading this right then it will come down to money coming into the club from sponsors, marketing, maybe even additional investors to compete. Essentially, external incoming money other than just gate money?

Has anyone heard the song 'we're all living in America'. It's true eventually our beloved game will go just like American football where advertising etc is paid handsomely to clubs, and everything is based on marketing. We'll have sodding bands playing in extended interval all to raise a few extra quid.

21 Mar 2024 07:40:32
Super leagues, sin bins/blue cards, 'extended play', changes in KO times, VAR reviews, extra subs and so on are all in the marketing movement already blackfords

21 Mar 2024 18:04:04
Yes Abbeywolf, unfortunately you're right. Companies paying for advertising slots on TV to increase revenue etc. The rich and big just get richer and bigger.

18 Mar 2024 18:18:03
So Forest are in the bottom three apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2024 19:19:09
Yeah 4 points even though their offense was worse than Everton? Will they appeal? Will Everton get more docked points? What a mess.

18 Mar 2024 21:43:27
Yes vbwolf, apparently they had more lenient deduction because they were compliant with the investigation. It would seem unlikely that they'll appeal because of that. But you never know they could, they've got 7 days to do so. It's a right mess for the clubs at the bottom not knowing where they are, and what to aim for.

19 Mar 2024 07:42:21
.and if Leicester return to the Premiership they are likely to be hit for previous seasons over-spend. When does this all end?!

19 Mar 2024 07:52:37
Well for all our moaning and groaning at the time over transfers and departures, we seem to have had some acumen in the boardroom.
We should be thanking our lucky stars things have worked out.

19 Mar 2024 19:19:31
Bit of useless info, been speaking to an Everton fan, who's friend is on
Coaching staff, he said the reason
They got rid of Coady and Davies, was they were both unfit, all the time, compared to rest of squad, in comparison. 50 percent behind everyone else. Week after week

{Ed025's Note - thats right GLW, the squad are so much fitter now under Dyche mate, pity they are not very good at football though.. :)

17 Mar 2024 21:50:14
Sad to say it, but it looks like Neto could have possibly played his last game for Wolves. Even if he does get fit before the end of the season, I can see them not wanting to push him because I believe they're banking on him for our summer spending, an injured Neto may be disastrous if he can't pass the fitness tests of potential buyers.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2024 06:34:25
Hi Emerald Wolf,
Based on Neto's injury record and FFP rules I'd be surprised if any of the teams interested offer more than £40Million if at all. Wouldn't surprise me if we don't sell him. I expect big bids to come in for RAN, Gomes and Sa.

17 Mar 2024 18:42:40

Just proves var is corrupt.
W.ham goal ruled out
Coventry's allowed.
Smh

18 Mar 2024 00:52:19
VAR is not corrupt. It’s just the standard of people on VAR and refs in general who are terrible and don’t know how to interpret the laws.

18 Mar 2024 05:56:19
See man city avoided man u in the semis! Thus ensuring maximum chance of maximum tv fees, or am I being too cynical? And that's just it vbwolf, do we trust the people who 'don't know how to interpret it'.?

18 Mar 2024 13:50:52
I've seen a few wild theories on X saying the balls for the draw have bumps on them for city and united so those who draw them know.
But it is just conspiracy theories.

18 Mar 2024 15:39:19
Apparently the ball numbers for the cup draw weren't displayed on TV showing which teams they represented. In theory therefore the draw could have been doctored. Not saying it was but just fuelling the conspiracy theories!

18 Mar 2024 16:14:16
I think it's most probably a recurring coincidence, but it always seems to favour the same way. Or I'm still a tad bitter, I bet we wouldn't have got Leicester if we'd both got through though!

18 Mar 2024 20:34:44
I was told a long while ago that certain balls could be put in a fridge before the draw so as to differentiate them from the others. No idea of the truth in any of that.

17 Mar 2024 14:10:50
I'm not going to focus on the forwards in my debrief. My concern is we allowed 25 shots on goal with 12 of these on target. XG of 4. To allow this against a championship side with 3 centre halves and 5 across midfield whilst defending has shocked me badly. What a waste of a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Mar 2024 14:51:23
We missed Dawson. Kilman, Toti, Semedo and AIT all Tey to push up the pitch. Santiago Bueno played the Dawson position yesterday and did well but it was clear that Dawson organises the defence hence Kilman and Toti both being exposed when Coventry played the ball over the midfield.

Hopefully Dawson and Cunha will be ready for the Villa game.

17 Mar 2024 15:21:16
Rumours are nettos season finished,
Maybe why our performance was bad.
If that's the case, go maybe settling for where we are now, and staying up.
So disappointing if so

17 Mar 2024 17:05:57
I was thinking the same Greyleg but to be fair, no matter how naive yesterday's performance, we have over achieved the expectations of most.

Let's see this season out, get to wherever we get and look forward to a good window, pre season and a more experienced GON.

17 Mar 2024 18:21:58
Agree 100% Raging, the defence calls short every time. None of them know how to mark their man and positioning is a bit of a joke. All Coventry's threat came from left wing crosses, so Semedo stood off him and allowed him to get crosses in which we have no idea how to deal with. Their striker just stood at the back post waiting for the cross and despite having three centre backs on the pitch no one marked him. I know we desperately need a good striker but a half decent centre half would be good.

18 Mar 2024 06:47:09
Agree too Raging.
Inexcusable the way Coventry had chance after chance.
Could be a defining result for the rest of the season.

See all in 2 weeks or a fortnight which ever comes first.

16 Mar 2024 19:14:12
Re people slating Lemina today. Yes he had a poor game but surely that was down to GON’s tactics. What’s the point of playing one of our best players, wide in the left wing? Even worse was giving him no or very little service all match. I said at half time we needed to push Mario up front and more central, as he did against Fulham. He was, for a lot of the game today, a wasted bystander. Now for Fraser, yes he had a poor match but for so called fans to come on here and say he’s no good is either a disgrace or laughable. There’s a big big difference between being ‘not good enough’ and ‘not good enough Today’. Fraser was the latter- not good enough today. He will come good, he’s still learning his trade at this level. Stick with him, get behind him, not on his back. He may or may not turn in to a prolific scorer like Jimenez, but he’ll come good and be a big part of the squad

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Mar 2024 19:58:53
Call me a disgrace all you want but I'm entitled to my opinion. I know what I saw.

Circumstances have dictated that he gets game time but he clearly needs time to develop.

Only absentee against Villa will be Neto so hopefully we can kick on.

16 Mar 2024 20:08:51
Halftimepie, agree completely on Lemina, but have to disagree on Fraser. Unfortunately he lacks speed and presence. We were put under pressure constantly as he failed to hold the ball up or reach easy passes. That is in all the games he's played not just today. Chiwome looked far more interested although like rabbit in headlights at times. The big issue is we lack quality outside the main 15-16 players and the drop in quality after them is vast. Players are needed in the summer. Coventry deserved their win today and we need to lick our wounds and hope some of our injured players return for Villa.

17 Mar 2024 00:52:39
Lemina has been incredible this season. He is up there for player of the season for me. This was unfortunately a game to far for us given our small squad and injuries. If we had the full squad we would have won today. The boys are trying, but sometimes you can’t always play amazing.

17 Mar 2024 06:24:40
My tuppence worth.
Lemina didn't make any more mistakes than others in the team but looked ineffective because he was played out of position instead of the position where he has excelled all season so let's not rip him. Gomes wasn't as effective without Lemina working beside him so the disruption to team efficiency was magnified as a result.

In regards to Fraser the occasions where he was fed a decent pass or a ball played into space were virtually nil and he was reduced to chasing around searching for scraps. Let's face it, a depleted squad, players out of position, few opportunities to make effective substitutions and a Coventry team that turned up for the match were always going to make it a tough day so let's not start slating individuals after all that they have done so far this season.

17 Mar 2024 06:58:46
Gotta be honest I think GON got his tactics wrong. Lemina looked uncomfortable he was getting the ball and visibly asking for players to recieve it as no one seemed to be in linking positions. He did what was asked of him bit couldn't perform as he'd want to.

Fraser, well he's a young lad thrown into a massive game. Nerves no doubt had a role but the lad was attempting to make the move but we dallied on trying to release him or Coventry were blocking any attempts which more often than not were coming from sarabia, who I thought was the only one showing genuine 'nous' and purpose in the first half. It was a bad day in the office mainly but I blame GON for it. That said, we came back and took the lead, at that point the players should have had the ability to hold the lead. Our ball boy seemed to recognise that and took the brunt of Robbins 'celebration' at the end, for which Robbins as now apologised.

However Coventry earned the win, we didn't deserve it and if it eernt for Sa and some awful finishing by the sky blues we'd have been slaughtered. Lemina has been a tower of strength for us and Frasers starting out on a promising career, please don't pin this defeat on them.

17 Mar 2024 07:06:12
Lemina was very poor for me yesterday. I know we're all perfect in hindsight but I couldn't understand why GON didn't put Traore on in the final 10 minutes. He has such energy and great at breaking up play. We allowed Coventry to come at us and got exactly what we deserved. Hopefully the players will regroup and put this right against Villa.

17 Mar 2024 12:06:16
I agree lemina. Is a super player, i'm not saying he isn't
But you can't get away from the fact
That he was very poor yesterday
I remember the legendary Roy walkers
Catchphrase, " say what you see"
And that's exactly what most saw
No one should be criticised for their view,
We all want success at this club
If I have upset anyone, I apologise
Not intended
Coyw

17 Mar 2024 12:17:34
Il tell you now.you can see if a player is going to come good and just like silva fraser wont.simple as that and as for lemina.hes a pro and should be able to adapt.he spent90mins getting in the way of his own players.that said the defence should be slated for all3goals. Poor positioning and defending all round. or maybe this is all just bitter dissapointment

17 Mar 2024 12:39:39
I agree Abbey and said it all along. Imo the tactics were off. Not necessarily the players' fault and it’s a bit harsh to jump on individual players backs when the whole team were poor. Gon almost says it himself after the game. He said we pushed defensive players up but then needed defensive players at the end but didn’t have any on the bench.

Why not move the defensive players back and have some faith in players actually playing their preferred position. Where did the game management go at the end, why didn’t we hold the ball up more the ball boy could see it so why couldn’t the profesional players and manager. It’s an opportunity missed, I think it will help us push on and hopefully gon learns from it too. Why are we signing players like lemina’s bro etc if they aren’t even good enough to come on against Coventry.

17 Mar 2024 13:10:52
Afternoon all, now the dusts settled a bit, yesterday was just a bad day at office, when you can't get the ball.to.stick with the forwards you're always going to be put under a bit of pressure, that said the defence was very poor, the continued runs by Coventry caused us all sort of problems, but the main issue of not picking up and closing down players in and around the penalty area cost us dearly, a win for us would have been harsh on Coventry.

On another day with a full team, it would have been another outcome, I'd say.
Would surprise me. Now that we go and take all 3 points at the Villa in 2 weeks, Bellgarde and Cuhna hopefully back in the side.

17 Mar 2024 14:37:29
I hope we do bounce back sydneywolf, my worries are that that may have burst our bubble this year and the lads energy and won't for a win will diminish. They'll have something to prove now tho I guess.

17 Mar 2024 16:12:01
I hear ya Abbey, I think the international break has come at a good time for a few to get over knocks etc, and hopefully a couple of players back, Dawson was a big miss yesterday

16 Mar 2024 15:31:58
The Wolves dressing room would have been very subdued after the game . Players thinking what happened out there, beaten again in Fergie time.Coventry wanted it more. Excuses, leg weary, injuries. A mini break before Aston Villa.

16 Mar 2024 16:40:31
I think its time to cash in on neto.out for9weeks!. he's never fit for long enuf.sell neto andRAN for 150mil and rebuild the entire team

16 Mar 2024 16:41:22
It doesn't surprise me, with pretty much our entire attack out injured and little in the way of replacement due to running with a threadbare squad we offered little.

However, those last minute goals, AGAIN, are just ridiculous. Still suffering from the consequences of the previous poor buying decisions leaving us exposed to ffp as a result, I'm afraid.

16 Mar 2024 16:54:17
And who exactly is going to pay that kind of money for Neto?

16 Mar 2024 17:06:45
Agree Long. We are paying for the gross financial miss-management in previous years.
Didn't deserve to win today.even so, had the chance and blew it.

16 Mar 2024 18:13:40
We need new signings in the summer of which I'm sure we will make.
We've been fortunate with injuries up until recently but there no excuses for the woeful display today.
The players and manager today are to blame.
It was a q/f for goodness sake, no desire no will to win.

Our players wearing the wolves shirt let us down and more than capable to of won this game.

16 Mar 2024 19:10:12
Totally agree Phil, the desire wasn't there, God knows why, if you can't be up for a home tie in the fa cup quarters then there's something wrong, no matter who pulls the shirt on

16 Mar 2024 19:18:56
Neto AND RAN. got to be at least 120mil.surely.AND ANOTHER THING. I trusted gon to get it right today with the limited squad resources that we have. And he got it badly wrong. making changes when we go1down.so he was happy with how it was going until then?i bloody wasnt.the season could implode on us now.so injuries apart wel see how good a manager he is now won't we.but its time to giv doc a permanent rest and play hugo instead.

16 Mar 2024 19:21:06
Even more deluded than the ones at work getting 150m for Neto and ran. Must mean Bailey is worth 200m.

16 Mar 2024 19:25:28
Phil, I’ve been to 5 semi finals and believe me no one is more disappointed than me . I half guessed it would be a hard task today but to lose it in the way we did was cruel. We looked tired and Coventry raised their game but I’m not laying blame at the players or the manager. Sh*t happens!

16 Mar 2024 20:06:32
Respect your opinion 47vintage,
Was a bad day today as you say *hit happens.

16 Mar 2024 18:15:12
I thought babacar Traore was worth an appearance today.

16 Mar 2024 18:40:15
The most disappointment was conceding two when we could/should have seen the game out. We gave the ball away too often today and that's cost us in the last few minutes again. Had we have won we'd admit we were lucky, but in the end we couldn't do the basics in defending our lead, so we deserved it. Sad day and now I worry for the rest of the season.

16 Mar 2024 20:34:35
Thanks Phil. Really can’t work out what happened in the last 10 minutes. Coventry obviously raised their game and we had nothing left in the tank. Still very proud of what we’ve achieved this season.

17 Mar 2024 09:17:45
Well said Phil789. Why GON bought Doc on instead of Traore I'll never know. I like Doc, but he did virtually nothing. Traore is full of running and he's great at breaking up play. Hate to say it but that was a mistake by GON today. I'm just so fed up that we missed a golden opportunity for a semi final place. All the difficult teams we've beaten to get this far and we blow it big style. The silence coming out of Molineux from either GON or I guess Kilman as captain on such a shambolic performance is deafening.

17 Mar 2024 14:24:47
Superjack2 is that the same Leon Bailey who missed an open goal against wolves last season 😂😂

16 Mar 2024 15:25:17
Absolutely shocking performance by Wolves Coventry could have been 3-0 before half time. The second half didn't improve much till we scored then got the second. Shut up shop but not Wolves how many times did we give the ball away. Unforgivable the way we played get the season over and hopefully spend some money and get 3 or 4 new players rant over.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Mar 2024 17:01:19
I think the game showed clearly how thin our squad is. Some youngsters with potential, but not ready yet. Bad luck to have 3 main strikers out, but Neto seems prone to injury, and if he stays he is unlikely to do a full season. Dawson was a big loss and we badly need another centre back of his stature. We seem to be able to introduce one new player with a full side and maintain momentum, but today was a lot of non-regulars. Grateful for the break to sort some injuries out.

16 Mar 2024 17:17:50
Coventry City were worthy winners. If we didn't already know it, today proved that our squad is not strong enough. Anyway, hopefully our injured players will be back soon and we can concentrate on winning a European place. No major problems.
