The futures s**te the futures Deano

Dean Saunders

8 games and 4 points =. 5 pts per game

Stale Solbakken

26 games and 31points = 1. 29 pts per game

That would have given us 40 points now, still hopeless but 5 points we would not have been worrying about getting and he was sacked for not being good enough and meeting the clubs expectations

Saunders needs sacking this week on that basis alone let alone his clueless ideas

Under Stale the team was getting worse. The points total you refer to is because of the start of the season.
Under Saunders there is some glimmer and we may just pull it off.

The team got worse because Micks players STOPPED buying into Stales philosophy! EBW

Some glimmer? Can you tell me where you get your glasses? I can't see it.

24 Feb 2013 23:28:14
Realist u lost your bet iv a good un we won't get another ten points this season get on it with your mate fred sound odds if your a gambling mon
Siewolf,

Where is the gimmer? It's just darkness from where I'm looking.

The only light comes from winning games - scoring goals even - and that light is well and truly obscured.

If there is light at the end of the tunnel, knowing our luck it will be a train hurtling towards us!

24 Feb 2013 23:23:56
we haven't had a win in 12 so all you loyal fans wake up we are going down with saunders. the only way to get another manager is for saunders to resign, morgan won't sack him, 2 managers sacked in three months no way.

Yep I suppose for a lot of you Saunders was also responsible for the four results before he even came here.

With our current predicament & questions over our current administration, I thought I would look at Jez Moxey's time at Stoke & why he remains to be so unpopular with SCFC fans.

I was surprised to see many familiar recurring themes such as team performance, manager appointments, player sales, financial restrictions, fan reaction & the role of ground development in the club's fortunes. Excerpts below.

1995-96 - Second Tier

Prior to the start of the 1995-96 season there was a lot of talk about the possibility of Stoke building a new stadium.

On the pitch Stoke enjoyed their most successful season for quite a long time as they mounted a push for promotion to the Premiership and the made the end-of season play-offs.

Few transactions took place in the summer of 1995 with the main talk being about a change of home.

Fielding a settled side Stoke continued to remain in the hunt for promotion. but on transfer deadline day Paul Peschisolido was controversially sold back to Birmingham City with Manager Lou Macari claiming to have not been aware of any deal.

1996-97 - Second Tier

Stoke were all set to move to a new stadium with the 1996-97 season confirmed as the final season at the Victoria Ground.

With Stoke agreeing with the council to pay £6million manager Lou Macari had no money to spend on new players instead having to rely on free or cheap transfers and loan signings.

It was a very inconsistent season results wise as Stoke finished in 12th position.

The first ramifications of the move became clear in the summer of 1996 as a number of players wanted a move away as the club began finding the £6million they needed. Nigel Gleghorn and Vince Overson were the first to depart. Funds were generated by the sale of Graham Potter for £300,000 and Lee Sandford for £450,000. The board did permit Macari to spend £200,000 on Richard Forsyth who became the first player Stoke signed who cost money since 1994.

With the club losing three very good players the supporters were downbeat about the club's prospects ahead of the 1996-97 season.

There were some serious questions now being raised as to how Stoke could afford the £6million needed for their new stadium.

Manager Lou Macari announced he was leaving at the end of the season which was a surprise but he was 'stripped of his duties' before he left and later launched a law suit against Peter Coates for wrongful dismissal.

Less of a surprise was the departure of Mike Sheron who joined QPR for £2. 75 million exactly the amount Stoke needed to make up their £6million. And so Stoke went into a new era at the Britannia Stadium with no manager and their best player departed.

1997-98 - Second Tier

With Macari leaving, his assistant Chic Bates was appointed. results were generally quite good. however performances completely dropped off and the club dropped down the table like a stone. which sparked ugly scenes from some supporters as Stoke headed for relegation.

The dawn of a new era at the Britannia Stadium should have been full of hope, but the departure of Lou Macari still not fully explained, plus the farcical search for a replacement, left fans wondering what exactly was going on. Many felt the delay in announcing the new manager was a way of boosting season ticket sales with many expecting Sammy McIlroy to be named as the new boss but the silence was deafening and caretaker Chic Bates was left to take care of pre-season training.

It soon became clear that Bates was going to be give the role full-time and in July he duly was, much to the disappointment of many. Former manager Alan Durban made a return to the club as Bates' assistant to help take away some of his responsibilities. The opening the Britannia Stadium was also seen as a fiasco. There was transport problems, ticket problems and the opening ceremony was awful.

Chairman Peter Coates was now very unpopular with the supporters and there were many protests against him due to Coates not spending his money. Attendances at the new ground were poor and by Christmas Stoke had lost their early season form and were in serious trouble. The slump was brought to head early in the new year when Birmingham City beat Stoke 7-0 at home which prompted ugly scenes at the final whistle as around 2,000 fans invaded the pitch and enter the director's box. The next match saw more fan protests and Coates resigned as chairman.

On the pitch Bates was clearly not cut to be a manager and so was replaced by former Bradford boss Chris Kamara. He arrived with bold intentions claiming the he would build a squad good enough to take Stoke into the Premiership, but he sold the only real player of value, Andy Griffin and in his 14 matches in charge only one was won and after an awful 3-0 defeat against Tranmere Rovers he lost his job. Kamara's time at Stoke was a disaster and with Stoke heading for relegation Alan Durban took over for the remaining matches. The final day saw the inevitable happen and Stoke were relegated to the third tier.

1998-1999 - Third Tier

So Stoke entered a new era at their 28,000 seater stadium in the third tier of English football with heavy debts of around £5m and had no manager the future seemed very uncertain. It came as a welcome surprise then when Brian Little arrived.

By November it seemed a matter of when and not if Stoke would gain promotion but their form completely dropped off and just one win was registered from the end of November to March.

Chief executive Jez Moxey was now coming in for some serious pressure to resign by the supporters due to the poor finances and with no chance of promotion Stoke finished in 8th place. Little had since lost interest way before the end of the season and he resigned in July leaving Stoke to find another manager.

Chief executive Jez Moxey predicted that Stoke would lose around £1 million a year through being in Division Two, such was the price Stoke had to pay after poor financial mismanagement on moving to the Britannia Stadium.

In an attempt to retain fan interest season ticket prices were froze and new chairman Keith Humphreys apologised for the past nine months of "bloody awful football" and he also appealed to the supporter group S. O. S (Save Our Stoke) to lift their ban on season tickets and merchandise. SOS wanted the stave out the current board and force them to sell in order to breathe fresh life back into the club.

Accepting that there was hardly any money available, Little signed players from the lower leagues such as Bryan Small, Phil Robinson and David Oldfield.

Jez Moxey divulges that they had budgeted for three rounds in the League Cup, Stoke lost to Macclesfield Town in the first round and therefore lost some £125,000.

It was becoming frustrating for Stoke as promotion rivals Fulham went out and spent £2m on Barry Hayles whose goals would win them the title and Stoke on the other hand had to rely on free transfers and loans as well as academy players.

More protests by the supporters followed against Moxey and the directors as Stoke's slim hopes of making the play-offs ended. Brian Little resigned in July 1999.

What followed was that basically Peter Coates got abuse from fans during the Moxey years, lost interest & left to concentrate on his other business interests.

Jez Moxey oversaw the appointment of Gary Megson, the subsequent sale of Stoke to an Icelandic consortium (along with a Scandinavian Manager), left Stoke in the 3rd tier with a new stadium and arrived at Wolves in 2000.

Meanwhile, Coates had made a success of his other business (Bet365) & later returned to buy back the club. A previously unpopular figure, he is now worshipped by Stoke fans, many of whom say Coates decision making is unrecognisable from the one during the Moxey years.

Mills wolf

Thanks for your post.

Unbelievable the similarities just goes to show Moxey is a leech dragging the football world down and just looking after his own interests

Great work Mills. Hopefully people read and understand the main reason we are where we are and will not improve until the poison is removed from the club.
I have never known 1 person want to be so important. It almost spoilt my day when I saw the fat person dancing on the pitch at the play off final against Sheff utd.
I work a lot in Stoke and have spoken to an ex player who told me Moxey turned up in the dressing room with his team sheet, forced Lou to rip his own up or be fired.
GET MOXEY OUT.

Great write up!

"I work a lot in Stoke and have spoken to an ex player who told me Moxey turned up in the dressing room with his team sheet, forced Lou to rip his own up or be fired. " - yeah right, so Lou Macari has no integrity or self respect then (any manager in that position would say fine fire me or just plain walk out rather than have someone else picking the team)

24 Feb 2013 23:15:38
doyles head as gone wanted to go to celtic didn't get his own way so is having a tissy fit, also didn't like getting dropped. so is waiting for a big fat pay off for his long contract and will be gone, knows if he don't score he will be got rid off.

24 Feb 2013 22:55:56
saunders to quit tomorrow press conference at 2.

I hope so

read this paul tamouth

Doubt it, but wouldn't blame him. He can walk now and blame the club. But if he goes down with them, his record will look really bad, having failed to save Doncaster too.

Wolves fans will hate it, but the best man for the job now (realistically with a hope of coming to Wolves) is Megson.

24 Feb 2013 22:21:44
Got a phone call from my source now saying we have agreed terms in lieu of an emergency loan for South Korean striker Li-Gwan.

Yes and his cousin
Wi Wun Wan Wunce

Never heard of him!

NEVER HEARD OF HIM

Gok Wan might at least get SEB to ay off the pies?

You will hear of him soon we will be playing him every week

There's a Lee Kwan-Woo, ageing Korean midfielder? Playing in Korea though, we must have some long range scouts!

I think some people have a sense of humour failure. Good one, by the way, EstateAgentSource.

I've heard a rumour that Moxey is in talks with a native American striker, plays in MLS, his name is Um Heap Big Trouble.

24 Feb 2013 21:20:04
Was at the game today, I fail to see what Ebanks and fall over in the wind Doyle, can offer us any more. So why not play Cassidy, mclinden, sigurdson ( who played well ) Henry cannot play with snail Ohara, doumbia was woeful, I stii believe we can stay up. but think we have to stick to 4-4-2

24 Feb 2013 21:13:19
I said it then and I say it now, we shouldn't of sacked Mick. We just might have stayed up, if not he'd of been the best man to get us back up. We would possibly of held on to jarvis, fletcher and kightly. A lot of if's and but's I know. Next time, be careful what you wish for, better the devil you know.

Say it as much as you like and you'd still be wrong. What was wrong was the false promises of funds made to SS and DS. Nobody can steer a ship if some larger person with greased back hair has knicked the rudder

Most of this is Micks fault anyway. It's his rubbish that are playing (or not playing in their case). Mick should of been sacked after the Blackburn game where we just stayed up.

Who do you think got us in this mess in the first place. We were a bust force when Merlin was sacked and only going one way. Connor was a joke and Stale lived in fairyland.
Reality is here and we now have a manager who recognises that.

24 Feb 2013 21:08:30
Glad you wanted Solbakken out now?

Told you all along should have kept S. S. he wanted to get rid of the dead wood and we may not be in the mess we now find ourselves in. They got rid because he wanted money God for bid. P. J.

I agree defo shoulda give solbakken time! This team was doomed to fail this year as players poor an older than when they won the league add that to the higher standard in champ nw an the grafters were always gona fail! Solbakken went because he wanted to chance whole format from top to bottom ala swansea, (so requesting monny = sacking) yes results wer poor but would of improved an even if not i'm certain wed have at least 2/3 better in by nw! Were stuck with deano an the drop by the looks hopefully he gets it right next season? The jury out but not decided on him yet!

24 Feb 2013 19:41:16
the loan deadline is the end of march the way these clowns down here are they will get a striker in at the end when its to late. its only been staring everyone in the face for months we need one but what have they done jack s--t

Who does jack s. t play for then - sounds promising lol

24 Feb 2013 19:24:27
Why the hell are peeps talking about getting forwards in. We need attack minded midfielders so far all we have is defence midfielders,
yeah I know SEB missed a sitter but that the only chance we had.
Get some F**king midfielders in before its too late.
Henry, o'hara, dombia, doherty are useless

Doherty had a good game, better than Foley & Ward. WFLife.

Doherty played really well today, distribution was outstanding. Linked well with Sigurdson second half. Agree need some attack minded central midfielder with a goal or two in him.

On a positive Wolfie won the three legged mascot race when it looked like it was all over - all Deano needs to do now is show the players what wolfie did when he looked dead and buried. Wolfie is our secret weapon

OMG if you think doherty was good yesterday then we are down

24 Feb 2013 19:12:17
Huddersfield Bristol city boro burnley hull these are our cup finals at home these are the ones we have to win stick to the basics 4 4 2 we still have hope need a striker

Danny

24 Feb 2013 19:10:16
I think it's going to be league one football next season. If this means a total change of playing staff and a new start may be a good thing.

The new start we need is a new owner

24 Feb 2013 19:03:01
Reckon Deano getting the chop as I post.

I have my prayer mat out

24 Feb 2013 18:09:31
Well done Morgan, Moxey you prize prats, sack Saunders while we still have a chance of hanging on by our finger tips, get Adkins in. for god sake, do something positive instead of doing sod all, what the hell do you think you are doing to this once great club.

24 Feb 2013 16:53:13
I'm off to the bookies in the morning and having a tenner on us not winning another game this season.

I don't think Saunders knows who to play where still, I can't see where the goals are going to come from.

Looking at Bellamy today and how dangerous he still looks, wishing we had someone like that prepared to have a go and not just pass the ball.

Let's face it, we're now the worst side in the league under Saunders and are going down, I really hope all the Solbakken haters are happy.

24 Feb 2013 17:29:06
Anyone think Saunders may walk pretty soon?

Just been told Saunders as asked to see M&M on Monday rumour going about is Saunders is leaving because of broken promises by the Board. Get used to it Deano we have had the same problem foe years mate. P. J.

All the way back to doncaster please

Id love it if we got di canio in. he should fire the team up.

If he did gone Nigel Adkins would be he man for me!

I really can't see another manager at the Wolves this season, I wonder what Stale is up to?

And if it was true that Saunders would walk because of broken promises then do you think it would not be the same with any manager?

24 Feb 2013 16:53:37
my friends mom works for the hm customs. last weeks she visited a wolves player due to tax evaision. aparently they seized 2 cars and a bunch of possessions. no idea who the player is though. all I know is that they live around tettenhall area. any ideas?

Nearly answered this directly but realised on stony ground but word has it a youngster Wolves born and bred is in the doodoo

Siggy? .

24 Feb 2013 16:25:25
Forget all these players you are talking about! A new manager is what's required because this clown will only take us down!

The futures bright the futures Deano! Remember what you wished for Paul Tamworth!

I would sack him now for playing a 5 man defence at home.

Thats a sign of a manager who doesn't know what he is doing

24 Feb 2013 16:23:24
first half we was awful!
second half we was better team than the top of the league!
at least dean sorted it but we still lost?
what does the future behold?
we must start against watford with the second half line up we played today!
feel sorry fer danny batt he played well!
xxxx to all our fans!

Cheers Glenn :-) EBW

Doherty and Robinson played well today. Main problem is lack of creativity in centre midfield and Doyle and Ebanks Blake never looking like posing a threat. Sigurdson immense today and Sako main goal threat. To save from drop need replacement for Henry and goal scorer before next game.

Don't worry about Batt he will be here next year R J will not

Agreed - if we play like we did second half we will be fine - SEB's miss summed us up in terms of confidence - Cardiff are strolling the league and we gave them a real game- Both their goals were once more poor defending - we cannot keep with a man in the box. After that performance feeling a lot more positive. First half we just gave them too much respect and when we upped the tempo and got closer to them they lookin average. Keep going lads and we can survive.

I agree with poster 3, I'm not a KH hater but you have got to have some creativity in midfield or tricky wingers we had neither today. When Sako did create the chance SEB missed it. that is why his time is up his conversion rate isn't good enough. Deano is starting to build a side but we need a striker and they don't come cheap. Keep the faith

24 Feb 2013 16:23:17
That looks to seal our fate, league 1 here we come. Look for summer clear out, new manager. didn't we say that last year?

Our fate is not sealed at all there are lots of points to play for. don't know where the next one will come from though. at the beginning of the season I would have hoped we would be living with the likes of Cardiff but most teams in the league haven't. Udinese Reserves up next

Wake up. Open your eyes. Who on earth in the squad we have can take the lead and win the points. No-one!

24 Feb 2013 16:13:53
DS 8 games 4 points = the sack, I don't care if he is a good bloke

New manager NOW Adkins, Hughes, Keane, Di Canio maybe even Sven just someone please

Sven Erikkson busy working/making millions in the middle east. Keane is useless as a manager. Di Canio will be a quality manager but I don't want his fascist morality anywhere near our club-I'd rather be in the Blue Square Premier than have a pro-Mussolini leader. My grandfather died fighting his sort. Hughes would cost way too much and Adkins?I'd take him but he is probably waiting for the Villa or Everton job.

You can't change manager at this stage in the season - looked a lot better today aganist the runaway league leaders - only poor defending gave them the game - seond half we should have equalised but lack of confidnece in front of goals again cost us

Two games with strange managerial decisions now. Does Saunders know what his plan is? First half was awful today (Sunday league), second half marginally better. Postmatch comments were a wonder to behold - was he at the same match as me?

Hughes will cost too much. Keane isn't good enough. Sven is making his final megabucks in the Middle East. Di Canio is a livewire, waiting for West Ham to happen and Adkins is waiting for the Villa or Everton gig to free up.

There is no way M&M will sack DS. That will be like them actually admitting to another huge mistake. He might walk, but I doubt that either

Adkins not frightened to give youth a go. Played 17 year olds in premier who he believed were better than established names. Look at Doherty, Baath, and Robinson haven't let side down and have offered more than Foley, Edwards, Henry Doyle and Ebanks Blake. Are there others waiting their chance who not going to get it until its too late. Cassidy and McAlinden can't be worse than two who ended today's game, should be on the bench for next game

24 Feb 2013 14:28:54
1 down frazier cambell free header same old story

24 Feb 2013 13:12:35
5 3 1 1 bout time he mixed it up
Ikeme
Batth Johnson gorkks
Doherty Robinson
Henry o'hara doumbia
Sako
Siggy
Today this team we get us that win seeing this makes me belive that 3 points is coming home UTW

Hope you're right mate.

Well that worked well NOT
Manager is panicking

Poster 3 - it was the manager who changed it, and he would have scored SEB's sitter even at 48

24 Feb 2013 13:08:38
SUBS:
De vries, foley, ward, davis, edwards, doyle, ebanks-blake.

Coselyglenn all them bar davis can go!! Useless only one i'd consider keeping for next season is davis but yea for nw there all we got but u missed pez an the two nipper forwards?
Siewolf

24 Feb 2013 13:07:51
TEAM:
Ikeme, doherty, johnson, gorkss, batth, robinson, henry, o'hara, doumbia, sako, sigurdarson.

Negative line up at home, playing into cardiffs hands, anybody can see that with a football brain. surprised me with that line up can see now what deano is all about, I think you will find that hunt will play as soon as he is fit because he will give you all he as got at that level and run hiself to death for the cause, like deano when he played, but i'm afraid this is not the way foreward for my football club, and I for 1 will not pay my good earned money to watch a load of runners and players who put a shift in with no class, how players of natural talent like hammill and peszcho cannot get in our team on right mid amazes me, deano that 1st half line up was an absolute joke and on that evidense it is time for you to go or resighn, morgan its time for you to get your head sorted as well because you have not got a clue as well as to run a football club, will not pay another penny until it is sorted to watch that as much as I love the club

24 Feb 2013 10:54:50
John Guidetti from man city would be a good loan signing, scored 20 goals and set up 8 for feyenoord.
should be able to get goals in championship

24 Feb 2013 10:53:25
McCarthy's approach had limitation - bottom 5/6 in Prem (but with him we would be thereabouts if not top 6 now in Championship), Connor was clueless, Solbakken's approach needed 2-3 years (I for one think he opened a few eyes to an alternative way of playing but lacked substance to see it through, Deano I am undecided. If nothing else he has loaned in a good and proven CB in Gorkss, had the balls to drop Doyle but still were lacking and need a serious confidence boost. The next two games are difficult based on form - Cardiff on an off day today leaving with a point could be the foundation to build from.

I am decided on Deano. The bloke hasn't got what it takes. People say he hasn't had time, but we should be seeing some improvement by now.

How we wish for MM limited approach - bottom 5/6 of premiership

His post match comments are not filling me full of confidence I have to say.

24 Feb 2013 10:47:43
Bring back Mark Maghee all is forgiven!

24 Feb 2013 08:09:49
well big day today, are wolves going to win or lose, I think were going to lose, and deano will get the sack, and mr adkins the new manager monday morning . jason wolvesfor life

Just rubbing it in - we know Guedioura is a decent player at this level, the problem was we thought we were at the next level we we sold. Good luck to you too, but not too much :)

23 Feb 2013 23:50:01
