Probably because they worked out that a bigger bid was not liable to be forthcoming and with all the shenanigans going on with Yeung they probably need the cash now.

Sometimes you have to lose before you win - in business and in poker So how about the theory that with Wolves demonstrating with the Mills deal that they were prepared to walk away, when they were actually playing Birmingham for the Johnson deal they wanted all along? In my view Moxey is a very canny card playing businessman...I still reckon there are more significant names to follow.
Spot on we won't be held to ransom by other clubs, three weeks ago brum wanted £14 million for johnson two weeks later £10 million and now £7million sometimes playing the waiting game pays off i hope
May be we should wait another 3 weeks and get him for £3.5 million. happy days

How about this for a scenario?
Jez offers B'ham our best offer for Johnson, take it or we walk. Then Jez finds another CB (Mills) we're not really interested in but make out to everybody we are. We offer our best price, take it or leave it. They want more so Jez did what he said and walked.
Did this attitude in our dealings have anything to do with Birmingham meeting our valuation for Johnson?
Maybe they couldn't risk Jez walking and were afraid of missing out?

For a million quid too - and still people reckon Jez is no good Would have been happy with half of that just to get rid of the donkey. Yes I know its a loss on the player but anything more than a couple of kegs of Bass would have to be considered a bonus surely?

I am usually one of the first to moan when Wolves seem to be dragging their feet. But you can't deny they are good on the business side of things when it comes to transfers. We have let Blues have our best price for Johnson, let them stamp there feet and bandy about silly figures and eventually come back to us and accept our offer. Love him or hate him, Moxey is a shrewd dealer in the transfer market. A brilliant signing for Wolves as long as it comes off and a quality CH on board. I think we are now 2 more signings away from mid table next year. Another CH to fight with Craddock, Berra and Stearman to play alongside Johnson and i think the other might be Lee Wallace from Hearts. That will be excellent business as well at around £1.5m. I think any other deals will be dependant on players leaving. ie Henry, Doyle. They would then have to be replaced of course.

Be careful what you wish for...
I go to London (north) each Saturday and am surrounded by Spurs fans who I would count as friends. I asked loads about Bassong, saying there's a lot of rumours and talk about him interesting Wolves. NO-ONE has a good word to say about him. They can't believe he cost £12m in the first place, but can't wait to get rid of him. I cannot remember seeing him play so can't personally comment on his ability.

a left back? ridgewell has worked with johnson before so they will have a good understanding of each other that should help them settle in..or is it worth a gamble on wallace, young, unproven in top flight but cheaper than ridgewell.....is one centre back enough??
